Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

England score from play after over 9 hours of not doing so, Shaw kept it on target and will be happy with that.

I was beginning to fear even the media wouldn't be able to hype them up for the inevitable wc collapse.

    How is it 2-2?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,246 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Just like waiting for a bus and 2 come along at the same time! 2-2

    Love Saka.

Brilliant from Bellingham, guy is wasted on that side.

Masuaku is lucky he ended up back in Germany or he'd be playing as a reserve wing back with good old Gareth.

Second goal now, with Germany seeming to have lost interest.

England flooded forward, caught Germany off guard with their numbers, and were clinical.

    Southgate really is a genius

Maguire to get the winner, not sure which end tho.

It could be 3-2. Penalty coming.

    Kane buries it. Crazy turnaround.

Has to be a penalty, nasty challenge.

    Had to be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,358 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    This isn't hyperbole.

England have been stunning the last 10 or 15 minutes.

    Bellingham, James, Saka.

    Some comeback in fairness 3-2

Might aswell just give them the World Cup now 😁

    Southgate is the GOAT

    Saka fairly changed the game

Played much better when throwing caution to the wind. Weren't allowed play by Southgate at 0-0

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,358 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

The England press right now is rabid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,246 ✭✭✭Esse85

Subs made all the difference, fair play to Southgate, he got those spot on, Saka and Mount have been excellent since coming on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    3-3! Some game.

    2 woeful defences.

Yet another mistake from England, Havertz with a tap in. 3-3

It would be comedy gold if Germany get a winner.

Who'd a thought playing saka closer to his natural position and removing foden from a.position he doesn't generally play in would work.

He is trying to shoehorn certain players into this formation rather than looking at who excels in certain positions be it rightft or central. Foden is best on the left, yet he keeps playing on the right. Saka is lethal on the right yet he's been shunted left a few times.

They need to drop Maguire though. He's a calamity. Southgate was a better centre back than him and wasn't always a starter. He should be more ruthless

Neither side going to threaten the later stages of the World Cup imo.

Cracking second half to be fair

What a game. Comedy of errors.

  • Registered Users Posts: 848 ✭✭✭Muff_Daddy

Maguire will be breathing a nice sigh of relief that he wasn't at fault for that one

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,067 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

LOL I was just things well at least Maguire can say I am blameless this time

Cracker of a finish to the game, good shot by Saka and a fine save.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,612 ✭✭✭eigrod

This is like an under 8s game. Everyone just chasing the ball.

Harry Kane taking someone out in the air again and Luke shaw with a pretty nasty tackle

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,246 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

I was honestly going to turn it off at ht as it was a bit of a nothing game. It really waas a Jeckyl and Hyde kind of a game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Enjoyed that. Draw probably a fair result.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭fyfe79

Gerd Müller made his debut for West Germany coming on as an 85th minutes substitute for Thomas Müller against Yugoslavia in 1968.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,292 ✭✭✭tanko

That doesn’t say much for the talent coming through in Germany.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,117 ✭✭✭jacool

He was out for 2 years under Jogi, but brought back in under Flick.

Nothing wrong with having a bit of experience on the bench to use when needed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 216 ✭✭BobDole22

What has happened to German football? They were so gutless and cowardly when England came out and attacked them if England get a proper manager in they could be seriously dangerous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,614 ✭✭✭The Golden Miller

I agree, I over estimated them when I tipped them to win the euros. But I think you also underestimate them to a point. Even if there's a dearth in talent in what they produce, the players they do have are well rounded.

Not everyone can be a playmaker, but Italians are raised to read the game, outside of a certain individuals role. Most of their players have a great understanding of the whole, even if limited talent wise. Which means even when poor relatively, they can pull off wins they shouldn't, against more talented opposition. Just very well rounded players, technically and in terms of reading the game.

This Italian team get found out but can double down and go again. Just a tricky team to play and beat, as their basics are so proficient. England should of got the run of them in the European final, but they handed Italy a chance, and Italy dogged it out. If your very clinical you can really hurt and expose Italy, but if your not they'll drag it down and become a nightmare to play.

More often than not national teams don't have great cohesiveness. Italy can spring from the woods and do any of them. They need the occasion to be big though, in qualification they can struggle for that intensity, but when the world watches and they're up for it, they'll be a nightmare, dogmatic to the end. Get them past qualification and they'll always be there or there abouts.

They aren't known as the wily old foxes for nothing. If they can manage to get themselves to the point where it matters most, they'll rarely be beaten imo, regardless of their talent at any given time

Yeah you make many good points. They were a collective at the Euros, and proof that a group of players playing as a team, with a good spirit, can often better more skillful teams.

Funny my brother is a follower of Italian football and predicted them to do well at that Euros too.

It's just a shame they are lacking in some real top quality players like they have always had.

Their weakness is often losing to teams they shouldn't, or not winning such games. Bro seen them at Windsor and couldn't believe their attitude on the night. They didn't start playing til about the 80min mark that night, and I think they often aren't positive enough in games.

Hard to really pump yourself up and to die in your shoes for less important games against minnows, which is where Italy struggle in qualification. You need to put them under the spotlight and on the world stage, to see the real Italy. Which is natural, most top sports people and teams don't perform close to their potential in mundane circumstances. But due to the nature in how Italy play, they need they occasion to give it all for a short two week burst. Not sustainable otherwise. They play a hard, very hard, grinding game, particularly when they don't have the talent at their disposal. Double down grinding

UEFA announced a format change for the 2024-25

Nothing will change during the group phase but they have now expanded the play-offs to be played in March between the final group game and the play-off final in June.

Now instead of just the group winners from League A going to the finals they will have a 2 legged Quarter-Finals in March with 1st and 2nd in each group playing, with the 4 winners going to the finals in June.

They removed the play-off between C & D teams with the 2 worst teams in C relegated however, they have added more promotion and Relegation play-offs that will also be played in March.

3rd placed teams in League A groups will play against 2nd placed teams in League B groups

3rd placed team in League B groups will play against 2nd placed teams in League C groups

After watching Croatia time waste by faking injuries since they scored it was great to see them concede a 96th minute goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,736 ✭✭✭Bleating Lamb

The Dutch lucky to get a last gasp goal to bring it to extra time.

Croatia had totally dominated the second half.

Modric imperious again……commentators said he played in the last meeting of these two sides…..15 years ago!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,042 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Didn't watch game tonight, but minor point .

Why are the Dutch wearing blue? They are in Rotterdam, all the crowd are wearing orange, yet they are wearing blue.

I'm glad I remember footy in the old days.

    Fabulous strike puts Croatia ahead!

Hoping Croatia can see it out. Fully deserving of a win. Dutch have been poor.
