Bottled gas cooker?

We need to purchase a new bottled gas cooker on the coming weeks and we were told before that there's a difference between mains gas coolers and bottled gas coolers.
Would I be correct in saying cookers that are LPG cookers are suitable for bottled gas?
Hope that makes sense.

Since we discovered gas in Kinsale all those years ago, mains gas in Ireland is now called 'natural gas' while the stuff in the bottles is called LPG.

Every gas cooker on sale states in the specs which type of gas it's designed for.

On the www.did.ie website you can tick boxes for which fuel you want when you go into cookers while on www.powercity.ie the two (mains gas & LPG cookers) are in separate categories of large appliance.

Nearly all freestanding gas cookers as well as hobs come with the jets for both piped and bottled gas

We got it installed in about November by a gas engineer/plumber.

However

Guy made a complete mess of it. My mother even got a small electric shock of it, oven was hard to regulate also and we got a small electric oven.

We recently purchased an electric cooker.

That is dreadful.

My gas cooker was installed by a handyman in a few minutes! Made a hole in the wall for the pipe and that was that. Simplicity. I would not be without a gas cooker

But you are without a warranty becuase it wasn’t installed by an RGI!

Yes, it was the converting of the cooker he messed up.

It's sort of hard to explain but to convert it you had to take off the all the knobs, then take off the front of the cooker, then turn something anti clockwise and then put everything together again.

From what I could tell he got one of the ignition wires caught when he was putting the front of the cooker back on and it menlted.

As, I said it was hard to explain.

I've a gas hob and electric oven. Wouldn't swap it.

There are different nosels or jets for bottled and mains gas. Many cookers come fitted with one type and a set of different size ones for other type. There are different sizes for each ring as smaller rings use smaller jets.

Either way I would get registered installer as any slight slipup can result in a slight leak overnight which can result in a large explosion in the morning.

The way the pipe is fitted through the wall is important too, get it wrong and it may chaff or react with the lime in the cement and fail over time.

Yes. If you don’t your warranty is VOID. if you make a claim on it they will require to submit the certificate they’ll give you. Gas isn’t a joke, there’s a reason why electric shops won’t install them for you!

How? I have done it myself in the past. This is a gas cooker connected by a rubber pipe to a gas bottle. Simple effective connectors at each end. In this case the bottle is outside so we made a hole in the wall.

They need to be able to test for a gas leak after its connected. Also the jets are different for a bottle gas cooker.

OK getting delivery of a new range next week to replace an existing one. I need a gas installer for warranty and insurance
