Benefits when on JSB

    Hi everyone

Starting a new role soon (in a few months) but for now still on JSB

Are there any extra benefits at all when on JSB?

    I feel there’s a massive gap between JSA-JSB-Employed

In a sense I feel in being punished when I was genuinely looking for work (which I’ve now found)

For example I can’t get fuel allowance, among other things beyond my €208 weekly (single person, house share)

JB is a short term benefit. It is designed to help people who are out of work for a limited time. So there is no need for any extras.

If you never did a days work you get all the add ons but people like you who persist in working don’t qualify !

I’ve worked all my life, got nothing for nothing. There is a whole tranche of people now who seek to get benefits of all description and feel they have an entitlement to same. Ireland has changed so much from a country of hard workers to a country where people are scamming the system in order to do nothing. The Eastern Europeans who have taken up these roles now think we are a real lazy shower and why wouldn’t they. The present generation are an embarrassment to the generation of the 50’s and 60’s who worked hard and got Ireland a great reputation in England,USA and Australia as honest decent folk.

But that’s my problem. I was living month-to-month on my salary

Now on JSB I interviewed as much as I could and have sorted myself with a role starting soon

However I was after getting crippled with my bills the last few months and struggling to stay afloat

Hypothetically if I was on JSA the last 3 years I’d have been getting a **** tonne of benefits. How is that fair?

Surely JSB should have ‘parachute’ supports to help with the shock of coming out of a full time job to essentially nothing

If FG/FF tried to introduce that the Oppostion would go nuts.

Try your community welfare officer. He might be able to help you- even when you are on JB.

Thank you - will call in

Should I be honest with them that I’m starting a role next month (with payments starting around start/mid December) or should I not mention that?

You should be honest about everything. The CWO wants to see bank statements as well- so if you have something stashed away, you can forget about everything. The payment/s will be means tested.

Give them a good story- how serious your situation has become. The person you are dealing with is a human being. Means the person can understand what is going on. They are trained for the job and can see very quickly if a person is hiding something. Any payment is at the CWO's own discretion. So in a nutshell: Your payment/s depend on your ability to convince the person on the other side of the desk of your immediate need for some dosh!

    Good luck anyway!
