I put them altogether with some I had from last years calendar and other pick ups and it seems I have a 2019, 2020 and 2021 Frideriksdal. Which is nice.

I'll take your word and hold onto it for a while yet.

For NYE I opened a Baghaven Pantao White Saturn Cherry from last years advent box and the Bergamo. You weren't wring about the flavour profile of the Bergamo, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected.

Herself is dying to try the seabuckthorn, so I will crack it open as soon as I conjure up a decent occasion worthy of it.

The Acai one is really interesting, too.

It reminds me a bit of Rodenbach Grand Cru but fruity! I bought that box x 2. Think I've about 2 left from the 20😊

Really enjoyed the To-Ol advent box. I'd be a bit more mainstream and never really enjoyed the Sours/Spontans that were such a large part of the Mikkeller box last year. The To-Ol box had a really nice mix, for me, mostly IPAs, some lagers, some sours and some Imperial Stouts oh and a lovely brown ale. Unfortunately no leaflet came with it, but I'd definitely get it again.

Overall the Mikkeller calendar was disappointing, far too many unremarkable core range beers. The cynic in me says that this advent calendar was put together with the aim offloading unsold stock from the controversial MBCC 2021. Highlight was the MBCC Anniversary Breakfast Porter and I'm not even that big a fan of porters, it was wonderfully rich and chocolatey. It wasn't a disaster but I probably won't be getting it next year

I'd agree with that, pretty disappointed overall.

I'd be looking for one with more stouts or dark beers next year.

I know it's a long way off, but you might let us know what you find towards the end of the year. I'd be looking for a calender/box which mainly consists of stouts and/or dark beers also. Last year I got one from Mother Macs pub in Limerick and it was top class, great range and variety. They didn't do it this year, so I went for Martins Off Licence, which was okay, but mainly IPA-based.

I'd also be interested in that. I got the beercloud one this year and while I can't complain too much based on the price, I was very disappointed with the selection. Not a single stout. Mostly core IPAs, session IPAs, I think two red ales and even a cider for some reason.

The Acai one was in the advent box last year and was the standout for me along wit the Koelsch and some American brew I can't recall right now.

Again, looking forward to the Acai one later this year when the time arises.

Very interesting. I hadn't thought about the MBCC. When I saw the list and compared it to last year it was definitely a massive downturn in quality. I still think I'll grab one next year, but I can only hope it's a return to form.

Quoting myself here - the To-Ol box is available for pre-order now, 50kr off with discount code nissejuice50 not sure if you have to have ordered before to avail of this discount.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,239 ✭✭✭Lurching

    Nice one.

Does the 15% discount work on the advent calendar for first order?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 168 ✭✭9320

No idea really, only way to find out is to try it I would think. You should be able to see if it has before pressing the final purchase key.

Does anybody know of anywhere that might be doing a Rum advent calendar?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,985 ✭✭✭randomname2005

Are there any issues with getting them sent? My understanding is that alcohol can be nabbed and 'destroyed' by customs.

Any idea idea how much the shipping would be on that To-Ol advent box?

    home delivery - €17.50

pick up from DPD is €14

With the welcome discount code and home delivery its coming in at around €107.

Yes there is the chance that the box could be caught and you'd be asked to pay the excise on it which would make it very expensive but I haven't had any Mikkeller or To-Ol boxes seized over the past 3 years. Always a risk though. Only gets destroyed if you don't pay the excise sought.

Hi all, that time of year (nearly) again.

Just looking for recommendations on Irish advent boxes. I see Molloys are now taking orders for their box, €120 - which is coming in it €5/can, seems a bit saucy. But maybe that's the going rate. Just looking for any alternatives if they're out there? Would be mainly looking for Irish beers, if possible. Mother Macs in Limerick did one back in 2020 (when the pub was closed) and it was top class, but have stopped doing them since they are back open again. I got Molloys last year, but found it hit-and-miss tbh. Would appreciate any other recommendations.

    Cheers.

Just bumping this up to see if anyone has a view, before I pull the tigger on Molloys

    😁😁

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

Revenue are not required to give you the option of paying the excise - it is only recently that they have even offered it. They are allowed destroy anyway.

Bought one of the To Ol advents calendars - sadly got a DPD customs check and has been seized. Waiting to hear now what/if options they give me on paying the excise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,266 ✭✭✭donnacha

Thankfully I eventually got the calendar after paying a customs excise fee of just under €20.

Not too bad I guess but probably more than you'd have been willing to pay if you knew you'd get hit for excise. Hopefully the beers are worth it.

Does anyone know if Aldi will be doing their Prosecco advent calendar this year?

I seem to recall it was in their stores in early November last year, but no sign of it this year so far.

How did everyone get on with Day 1? Curious did I miss out.

Day 1 of Molloy's was Wicklow Wolf - Elevation Pale Ale.

    A nice crisp start.

Anyone get either of the craft central calendars, I was tempted but didn't bother in the end

I ordered Martins Madvent box a week ago but hasn’t arrived yet. 😢

Now they're all open, how did everyone find them? My friend got the high roller one from Craft Central. €180 it cost. But some cracking beers in there. Lots from American breweries I've never seen over here before.
