Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Witness being possibly investigated?

    Hi everyone.

The person in question purchased a phone from a small phone shop not knowing it was purchased with a stolen credit card. They got a random ring from the Guards that they'd need to come in for a chat and the guard stated that they were "not in any trouble".

Having come in for the chat, they were told that the phone they purchased was initially purchased in X (the place where the person lives) with a stolen credit card. That person purchased the phone from a shop in Y (a different city they were visiting). They took down a witness statement of the entire thing and also asked whether it'd be okay to contact [person's bank] for a statement of the credit card transaction that was done to buy that phone. They said that they'd get it anyways but giving permission would make it easier(?). That person said okay to not get into trouble. After all, the Guards have mentioned they already have caught the perpetrators of the scam. The Guards also knew this person's address and other random personal info about them.

They said they'd need to take the phone away as it is [person's bank]s property as the person whose credit card was stolen filed a claim with the bank. They said that they would get the phone anyways in case it wasn't handed over as they'd have a warrant to search that person's residence. The person in question asked whether it'd be okay to return the phone the following day as they need to back up their stuff and get it on a different device. The guards said okay and that they'd collect it themselves from that person's residence. They also mentioned that failing to return the phone could lead to prosecution.

The following day, the same guard in informal clothing came down and collected the phone. While writing down the IMEI number of a different phone that was sold at that same phone shop to purchase the stolen phone (the guards said they'd try to find it and "look into it"), the person in question noticed their partner's name on the Guard's notepad and a few other details. The partner was never mentioned.

This all seems extremely fishy. Do you think that the person in question is being investigated and at risk of prosecution? They have NOT committed any crimes. They just wanted a better phone and fell victim to a scam. The Guards treated them like someone who's "in on it".
