The seasoned lamb burgers are back. Yippee 😁

€4.49 for 2. (340g). I think that's a price rise from last time. (Can some "seasoned" Aldi price watcher confirm this please? 🤭)

Has anyone seen those mini-cones that were around for a while during the summer?

Any time I look for them, there's one or two sad-looking boxes all torn up and cones falling out of them.... I've no idea if they're just left for weeks and they haven't filled the shelves with something else, or if half the rest of the neigbourhood is as hooked on them as I am!

Those items usually get dropped after summer, I'll have a look in my local because I am down to the last few!

The big bag of 24 Spuddys cheese and onion/salt and vinegar/smokey bacon has gone up to €3.09 😫

Still a bargain and still the nicest crisps you can buy but these price rises are just relentless now, literally every time I go in they've jumped again.

They've been €3.09 for a few weeks now, and the six packs have gone up to €1.19. But the six packs of cheese and onion have been out of stock for a few weeks.

Tesco own brand cheese and onion crisps six pack has risen from 0.99c to €1.09 to €1.19 to €1.35 this week.

Do any of you get extra packs in the Spuddies? I don't buy them that regularly as Aldi is more awkward for me to get to than other supermarkets but when I do buy them I regularly get extra packets. I bought a variety 6 pack on Sunday and there were 8 in the pack (4 smokey bacon, 2 c & o and 2 s & v). You can nearly feel the difference in weight when you pick up the six pack.

Yes, actually - now that you mention it I got 2 extra c&o in variety multipack a week or so ago.

Agree the steaks have slipped un quality which is ironic the hoops aldi are known to put factories through

Ive gone back to local butcher now. He will show diaplay or else cut to my liking. Anyone with a freezer id recommend doing something like a monthly shop from your local butcher. On week days when its a bit quieter he will even cut up the chicken breast if im getting them for curries etc. And will bag them up to meal sizes so i dont need to buy freezer bags

The funny thing is that Aldi were the first supermarket in Ireland to think of selling premium Irish steaks. At the time the steaks in other supermarkets were rubbish. In time, the other supermarkets followed suit. Now, it seems that Aldi have been left behind and have left their quality slide. Over the last few months, Tesco's premium range of steaks has been really good.

Went back over the thread to see if the seasoned lamb burgers have gone up in price since they were in stock last time. Yep they have ✔️ used to be €3.99.... now €4.49.

I was soo excited when I seen them the last day, that I put 3 packs into my basket. When I checked the price I put one pack back. €4.49 is a bit sweet for two equivalent quaterpounder burgers.

The cheese bakes are back! Hurray!!!

I found them today when I was looking for two other things that seem to be missing....

No packs of soup veg (carrot/parsnip/potato/broccoli/cauli etc) .

And no roasted monkey nuts - what's that about?? All the Hallowe'en stuff has been in for ages, but no nuts to be found anywhere. I've seen some "raw" ones in the likes of Supervalu, but I love the roasties. Lidl and Aldi used to be great for huge bags of them, but not this year......

Danger! The Christmas all butter mince pies are in stock in my local store.

Ive more or less stopped buying any meat from Aldi except maybe if a full chicken is on offer. As said the quality on the steaks has gone down and the special offers on things like stewing beef and mince have more or less dried up on the Super 6 meats which is now full of stuff I dont want. Used to always stock up on those two items when they were on offer but since they've stopped doing it have shopped around and theres really little price difference between Aldi and Dunnes with Dunnes having better quality meat imo. Right now Dunnes is cheaper than Aldi on stewing beef which never happened in the past.

My Dunnes has a James Whelan butcher and while they are expensive for rib eyes they have started doing cheaper steak cuts which are still really good quality. Had a salt dry aged Glenarm Denver steak on Saturday night and it was delicious and well worth the 5.44 price.

Also Im using the 10 off 30 vouchers in Dunnes so its around 33% off if you get close to the 30 euro target. On my last shop I got 32 quid worth of meat in Dunnes for 22 euro. It was 1kg pork loin, 1.4kg stewing beef, 570g round steak mince, 454g lamb mince and a 260g Denver steak from James Whelan butchers.

Yea we are disappointed with Aldi meat recently too.

We bought a chicken at the weekend from Aldi, had it yesterday and it was terrible. This is not the first time. We found the texture really strange.

The mince is fine, the burgers and sausages are fine, but I think most other things we are going to source elsewhere from now on. I've used James Whelan before, it's handy that they deliver too.

I get the 1900g whole chicken from Aldi as it does two dinners for us - the two breasts in a roast dinner, and then I strip the rest of the meat for a curry the next day. I haven't noticed any real difference in the quality or texture, but will keep an eye on it.

I haven't bought steaks there in a while as I usually do click and collect but I like to pick out my own steak.

The specially selected Irish black angus diced brisket pieces / black angus lean mince are melt in your mouth lovely in a beef stew cooked low and slow. I usually do half and half brisket pieces and mince when doing a stew.

The lean pork mince is good mixed in with the beef mince for bolognese, and is only 4% fat - I haven't found leaner pork mince anywhere.

I'd much rather they stuck an extra quid on the price of the boxed steaks rather than dropping the quality. I used to get the fillets and when you get tough fillets you know the quality has gone down!

As somebody else said the Tesco Finest steaks are well worth it. I also find the SuperValu and Tesco mince better than Aldi too.

Cheese is still a winner in Aldi though! And I saw a new fridge (not freezer) beer battered cod fillet (specially selected black box) which was lovely - think it's in the seasonal xmas type range. Beside the normal breaded / battered "fresh" fish

And sometimes you'd get fillet in the sirloin box.

First they came for the socialists...

Bought the free range chicken fillets last night, three in the pack, 454 grams, €7.80! Anyone who keeps track know what they were a year ago?

Anyone use Aldi Pancetta? I’ve been using it for ages and they had a second choice this week so I tried it albeit being dearer, hated it…didn’t even finish the meal I made with it.

(Just to say the regular Pancetta both smoked and unsmoked is excellent)

I’ll give it a try 😊 Though as I said the regular Aldi one is great but am afraid they are dropping it for what I consider an inferior product.

That's a shame! I always pick up a pack when I'm in there, it can be hard to find it in other supermarkets. And it was proper quality too, not full of water.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,363 ✭✭✭dePeatrick

Well they may not have discontinued their standard variety but the new one they got in was not to my taste at all and dearer. I must look at buying pork belly which is what pancetta is and slice and dice myself. (Hopefully no water in it either) I could go on a rant about water in pork and bacon…😈

Can't beat a lovely bit of fried bacon that quickly turns to horrible boiled bacon due to the water flowing out of it😡

I've seen pork belly in Lidl, but was never sure how to cook it... Can you just chop it up and use as pancetta?

It’s cooked many ways but I’m pretty sure if it is sliced and chopped it is the same as Pancetta…I have used various other cuts of bacon and the fattier ones are superior no doubt. I am going to take a look for pork belly this weekend. I’ve heard it’s delicious roasted but I eat egg Carbonara about twice a week so quite a different animal so to speak 😋

Oh don’t start me… 😡 And by the time you have the water evaporated the rasher is shrivelled to zero…

    That’s a heavily spiced and salted Pancetta…
