I know it's your thing of lumpring Sinn Fein with that rable but I remember here in Derry their slogan on the election posters was 'equality, respect, rights'...not exactly appealing to the far right ffs. They're a mirror image of UK Labour Party in all their fractions.

So now were saying the Irish government through unfettered immigration is deliberately targeting their own citizens adding hardship after hardship. So were saying they know there is no room as they allowed that to happen. Not being Irish myself but I would consider that Treasonous behavior of a Government.

You were so close. You just couldn't stop beating the 'unfettered immigration' drum though could you, despite it only existing in your mind and that of others similarly motivated. At least you won't be lonely around here. Plenty more on the same page as you.

Now black is white. What does no cap mean I will wait. What word would be used instead of Unfettered. I know in this situation it's hard as Ukrainians are white so racism cant be used.

Please let the rest of the class know what word should be used. 🤔

The Tories haven't been in power as long as the Cuban, North Korean and Chinese governments.

You want links to Wallace and Daly supporting Putin?????? What rock have you been living under?

That is a silly mantra, but one I have seen from many silly posters.

Extremism bad, compromise good. That is the way forward.

You can be sure that the dangers of today are for the most part coming from the far right ... by stating this it does not mean one is anti right wing ... the normal right have nothing in common with the conspiracy based opportunistic extremism of the far right ... and in fairness the far left are the same as the far right ... far left turds like Stalin, Mao, Ceausescu esp Pol Pot are equally as vile as the far right turds we list later ... horseshoe theory et al ... but they are currently not the problem ...

It is very clear that many far right leaders tend to be failed leaders in other walks of life .... for example -

    failed artist = Adolf Hitler

    failed doctor = Ayman Zawahiri

failed builder = Osama bin Laden

failed ayatollah = Shah Ali Khamenei

    failed businessman = Donald Trump

failed communist = Slobodan Milosevic and Vladimir Putin

criminal going legit for a failed communist = Arkan

    failed criminals = ISIS

These ones are the obvious ones ... the more dangerous ones are the ones who control the media and become mouthpieces for guys like Trump at present ... going back to Goering and Goebbels the far right have always valued propaganda and conspiracy to frighten people and get them on side ... the Nazi propaganda machine was at least 50% based on wild conspiracy about a Jew/commie plot that never existed but was sold as 'truth' by the Nazis esp Herr Goering and Herr Goebbels .... for a more recent example look at how 9/11 was used to get people onside for the lie that was justification for the Iraq war ... that benefitted the far right ISIS ... Poxy News have become the new Goering and Goebbels for the American far right's never ending appetite for war ....

Today we have Swanson 'Tucker' Carlson ... a cheap shock jock who once was a respectable moderate writer and TV host ... he saw more money and fame could be found to become the propaganda machine for America's wannabe Republicans of Gilead and its mouthpiece Poxy News ... and got in behind Trump who was also a late comer to the far right cause because he too saw the opportunity to sell himself to the great unwashed of the neo-KKK who dream of their 'utopia' (in their view) that combines the worst of Apartheid South Africa and the world of The Handmaid's Tale and other supposedly fictional US dystopias ...

If these people were not the threat they posed ... we'd be laughing at them ... like who the hell would wear no shirt at the start of January and wear horns and fur holding a big spear and chanting nonsense .... comedy gold for sure ... if what was being represented was not a threat to democracy and world order ...

You can be sure this Ukraine war is part of a bigger plot to turn people in Europe and the USA against their current governments ... what did Trump and Putin discuss in the secret meeting in Finland?? .. Carlson and other neo-KKK commentators continue to ignore and sometimes praise Putin and what he was at ... Trump crucifies Iran with sanctions helping his undercover pal Shah Khamenei to dominate over the moderates in Iran ... Trump takes out a threat to Khamenei called General Soleimani for good measure ... and to divert attention away from his own woes ... and lest not forget the anti-mask and anti-vaccine brigade ... and how silent same are now wrt the energy crisis ...

Hitler may well have been more talented as an artist than a politician ... and should have stuck with it ... but today's fascists are definitely more talented at only one thing and have no other talents ... unblessed be the rotten apples indeed ...

Stalin made all of them look like quire boys. Left as always tended to be worse. Hitler was a socialist more than right wing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 862 ✭✭✭lumphammer2

Stalin was clever ... he was able to survive and died naturally with his regime intact ... it survives to this day albeit under a new name ... wrt no of deaths he is among the very worst ever ...

The left extremists v the right extremists all remind me of each other ... ISIS v Khmer Rouge? What they do to their native population is similar ... KR were worse domestically but did not international terrorism ... which ISIS dominated the world with from 2013-2018 ... Far left v far right ... it really disguises the fact both are the same ... socialism, national socialism, fascism, religious fundamentalism, communism, fanatic nationalism, any other movement ... all can be used and abused by some fanatic with hatred in his heart ... whether nominally right or left really is beside the point ... and some of these guys are both right and left as Slobo, Arkan, Karadzic and mad Vlad have proven ...

I'm not disagreeing just pointing out facts. left and right both extremes are just as bad as each other. why I live in the Centre. I pick a bit left and right like most people. I never go full R word on them.

Same here I am liberal in a lot of ways living and let live, zero tolerance for bullying, harassment or undermining people of different nationalities or sexual orientation, except for nonses, wife beaters and people who harm children, vulnerable and elderly.I hate the bastard's who prey on people. I have old school conservative value's like minding my own business, looking after my family. Living by my means, working hard for a living. I'm not into feeling entitled or getting involved in social justice or a cause. Don't draw attention to myself. Interested in bushcraft, fishing, hiking and hunting. I believe in old folklore and superstition. An absolute odd ball really. The type of guy who has respect for the elderly and understand their lack of modern thinking, they don't need to be told their ideas are behind the times . I like writing letters and posting them.

The whole idea of left and right is cultish behaviour. Depending what side you are on, when something bad happens, you blame the other side for it, or if it's screamingly obvious it's "your" side, you ignore it completely.

Sadly much of the media here do this too - there is an enormous left wing bias in Irish media, which results in some stories being massively amplified - like that idiot teacher in Mayo, and others being downplayed when the facts emerge, like the homophobic double murder beheadings or Aisling Murphy's murder because the perpetrator was the wrong religion or ethnicity.

Back in the 70s and 80s the Irish media had a massive Catholic church bias, now it's left wing California, only the direction of the bias has changed.

Standard Jordan Peterson drivel. Pretend to criticise the extremes but only focus on one side. I honestly thought you were better than this.

Since you've provided no evidence, I'll consider this debunked.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

    Leviticus 19:34

Nothing but the usual debunked tripe. Ok. Let's leave it there.

Same here and I think most people are like this ... extremism gets labelled left or right but it really makes no difference ... far left and far right look very much the same .. just as is the case with religious fanaticism of one v another religion ...

Forget about what the media and influential commentators are telling you for a second and look at the world you live in. Identify the issues that are impacting society and then look at the root cause of those issues and ask yourself what policies have resulted in these issues existing. Final step is to identify the people who are enacting the policies and look at how they display their own ideology.

For this last step you might have to look at who the policy makers are criticizing more than what they say about their own leaning. When politicians in various countries rail openly against the Left/radical socialists/wokey Lefty lawyers etc, I don't think anyone can dispute that they are aligned with other right wing ideologues.

The purpose of this thread has been to point out that those enacting the most negatively impactful policies are, right now, right wing in nature.

No one has actually countered that. We've had people trying to debunk the unclaimed statement that no one on the left has ever done anything negative. No has said that this is the case. We've also had frequent posters trying to dismiss the discussion by 'both sidesing' it. I'm not saying that they are in agreement with all the negative practices (some of them obviously are), but their unwillingness to call a spade a spade is giving a pass to those enacting harmful policies. We've also had the truly bizarre scenario of someone claiming Putin is Left wing because Clare Daly and Mick Wallace voted against militarization within the EU which I had to think about again this morning and check had I actually read those posts correctly. And another interpetation that the homeless issue in the country is most severly affected by the documentation of 0.003% of the people in the country (17K) rather than the 160K properties that could be housing people but instead are left empty.

And on a platform where people frequently start and engage in discussions on topics which are started to target 'liberal ideals' or at least what they think are liberal ideals, the outcry against a thread pointing the finger in the other direction is both telling, and not really surprising.

The last 24 hours has seen outright members, or darlings of the right wing in the US suggest people should be favourable to Russia keeping parts of Ukraine (this same guy could soon own one of the worlds biggest social media platforms), that the Jews are controlling things in the US and elsewhere and something needs to be done about it, directly racist language at a campaign speech, a campaign rally by someone who stole Top secret documents praising and excusing those who took part in the insurrection on Jan 6th 2021 and a candidate for the US house of Representatives following up a tweet saying people seeking entry to the US at the southern border have come directly from prisons with a verse from the Bible saying people should be compassionate and humble.

And on Boards, the Wokeism of the day thread is busy with posters complaining about people using pronouns and a comedian making fun of political personalities.

Whenever I hear somebody try to promote communism, I ask them a simple question:

when the Berlin wall came down, in what direction was the flow of people?

    1. Did people want to leave free-market west Germany to move to communist east Germany?
    2. Did people leave east Germany to move to west Germany?

Indeed, one reason the wall was built was to prevent people leaving communism, pre 1961.

I sometimes wonder how PBP might answer this question.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,630 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

Of course no one wanted to leave W Germany to move eastward, I think that much is obvious.

Who is promoting communism? Can you provide a link to them doing so? I'm sure there are some people, I'm just curious to what extent you feel it is happening and are these outliers from people or organizations who are nowhere near actually enacting meaningful policy.

But you just define anything bad as right wing and anything good as left wing. For example is the Chinese Communist party left or right wing? What about North Korea or Venezuela's governments?

    °°°°°

History shows that extremes of left and right wing ideology tend to end up being a nett negative but people who espouse these beliefs never see how their side could possibly be in the wrong.

Pointing out logical deficiencies of this nature is an exercise in futility however.

    Glazers Out!

The last few days have seen the left-wing North Korean government fire more missiles over Japan, while the left-wing Russian government continues with its illegal invasion of Ukraine, while also evoking memories of the left-wing Cuban government's actions in the 1960s, while the problems at the United States southern border have been caused by people fleeing the left-wing Venezuelan government.

Extremism is bad, whether that be right-wing extremism or left-wing extremism. A country like Brazil is seeing the tragedy of an election being fought between a corrupt extreme left-wing candidate and an extreme right-wing candidate that let his people die of Covid.

(this same guy could soon own one of the worlds biggest social media platforms)

Who gives a proverbial crap about what he owns? Is there some written rule somewhere that every wealthy person must all think the same?

Left wingers and liberals are so fond of group think.
