There are two other things that can impact the draw outcome.

Winter venues: A maximum of two teams whose venues were identified as having high or medium risk of severe winter conditions can be placed in each group: Belarus, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Norway.

Excessive travel: A maximum of one pair of teams identified with excessive travel distance in relation to other countries can be placed in each group:

    a) Azerbaijan: with Gibraltar, Iceland, and Portugal.

    b) Iceland: with Armenia, Cyprus, Georgia, Israel.

    c) Kazakhstan: with Andorra, England, Faroe Islands, France, Gibraltar, Iceland, Malta, Northern Ireland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Spain, and Wales.

Tough for Scotland going in with Spain.

    England reunion with Italy.

    We will get Group B

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,141 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

At least with B we wouldn't be expected to qualify. We would get G and still not qualify.

    Pot 2 is so lopsided

    Haaland vs Spain and Scotland.

Oh ffs. Group B for Bollocks.

Could have been worse for NI.

We're finishing 4th if we're lucky in that group. Best hope most of the teams ranked above in the NL qualify and we fluke a Play-off spot

    NED - FRA - IRE - GRE - GIB

Bloody hell. The winners from 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2004. Not a bother!

Some very tough groups and then others very average.

Uefa need to look at how they make up groups.

Looks like we're relying on the play-off route then.

Big question is who will be in charge of France and the Netherlands because it's far from clear Deschamps and Van Gaal will be staying on after the World Cup. Might be Zidane in the dugout.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,141 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Very hard to get excited about a lot of them groups. Honestly could not care who gets out of E and I for instance.

Group of death for Ireland. I’ll look forward to going to the home games against France and Netherlands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,950 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Ir's a good group for us because we'll find out whether we've progressed at all.

If we can't at least give the top teams a game we shouldn't be going to a tournament anyway.

No good qualifying only to be humiliated.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,455 ✭✭✭kerplun k

    Exactly how I see it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I'd missed that. Makes sense given Van Gaal's health issues.

Northern Ireland will surely fancy their chances with that draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,141 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

They are certainly better than their seeding but pot 5 qualifying i'de say is very rare.

England gonna waltz through another qualifying group by the look of it.

Italy wearing Adidas kit is just wrong.

I can't explain why exactly but it's just not right

this must be a pen for england

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,180 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That's some horse $π1+ over the England penalty. VAR took forever, the ref took forever. Clear and obvious? Pfft. Kane with yet another penalty. He should call one of his kids penalty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,284 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

and grealish misses a sitter to put england 3-0 up after kane converts the peno

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,179 ✭✭✭Xander10

Nah, VAR has the game ruined.

Some miss by Grealish to wrap it up 3 nil

Christ that was a shocking miss from Grealish after excellent build-up

    Italy are pathetic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,284 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

it was falling to kane if not for yer man's hand up and out.

but as sligeach said, if it takes that long is it clear and obvious?

personally, i think clear and obvious should be done away with. it serves no purpose. foul/no foul (or infringement/handball) should be the only criteria

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,141 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Also Dion Dublin shouldn't be anywhere near the commentary booth.

Channel 4 coverage is dire, especially, the presenter, pundits and Dion Dublin.

I thought Harry Kane put his hands on the ref. Didn't push him, but still. Anyway, he's sent off Shaw for a second yellow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,141 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

How in god's name can anyone argue that's not a second yellow for Shaw

    Haha Southgate fukin hates Foden.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,180 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I don't know how the ref only added 5 minutes of injury time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,644 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

Well, the ref didn't pull on h for pushing/nudging the defender before giving him the penalty so at least he's consistent.

A lot of unlikeable characters on this England side imho. Likes of Pickford, Shaw, Walker and Trippier have nasty streaks, and then Harry, Saka and Grealish throwing themselves on the ground at every opportunity. Add to that Gareth and his ultra conservative setup, there is a lot to not like tbh.

Captain's of England are a protected species.

It was on Virgin Media. Brian Kerr was co-commentator. The fellah with him couldn't get a word in edgeways.

England can beat Italy every day off the week when it doesn't matter, when it will matter Italy will do them everytime. One of the easiest fixtures to call when it really matters.

The problem for Italy is often qualifying, but when they get there, a nightmare to play. Luckily they have England in the group, because if they're struggling to qualify this time, and get England in a must win game, it will be handy.

You can almost see Italy toying with them, giving them false hope, only to meet them when it matters later on.

England a second rate team, and despite having household names that we're used to seeing (leading to the fallacy they've world class players), are a very average side, devoid of real technical quality. Any half decent side will do a job on them when it matters

I was waiting for this, glad you didn’t disappoint.

So the first game doesn’t matter, so England won, where as the second game in a few months might matter, so Italy will definitely win? Oh and on top of that they were toying with them jeopardising their qualification, knowing the will defiantly beat Ukraine twice, England at Wembley and North Macedonia who knocked them out for the World Cup ( I suppose that game didn’t matter to them).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,985 ✭✭✭ebbsy

England will do well at the Euros. Will not be beaten easily.

Italy will struggle to finish in the top 2. I see their olds friends North Macedonia are in the group as well.

Its a pity we have been drawn in such a difficult group. I have been over to a few Dortmund games, the matches are a great day out over there.
