Did the number of eligible females you have reduce by twenty?

Surely there’s a mistake. I have two ZAG cows here born in 2016 which were 5 star when they got their first genomic evaluation in Autumn 2017, they are both 2 star cows now but they are qualifying cows in my herd for the BDGP scheme this month. They wouldn’t qualify in another herd if i sold them.

I can’t see how so many of your cows qualified as 4/5 star animals on their first genomic evaluation but don’t qualify now, what ages are these animals, are they cows or heifers?

My own number increased by 4 since August because 4 Spring 2021 born heifers i genotyped earlier this year are 5 star heifers.

I got the boot for 2021/22 bdgp extension period over ai usage rule . Have joined bord Bia now in anticipation of the 2023 suckler carbon Efficiency scheme , anyone else done same?

ive sold heifers here over the years and it used to kill the local auctioneer to call out that they were 5 star, I gave up in the end , no one seemed to care! Hope you get sorted

Could you pick up 4 cull cows with 4 /5 stars between now and the end of the month, you could then kill them in November and have your money back. There is a lad beside me at that crack this last few years. He sold nearly all his sucklers a few years back and from July on he buys back in cull cows or some cows with calves at foot, all would 4 / 5 star, he does them well for the few months and then kills them all in November. He seems happy out at it, he used to be calving over 40 cows a year now he calves less than 10 and most of them are he purebred hobby ones.

How does he manage to fill the bull requirement ?

He would have a few 5* bulls that he breds out of his pure bred cows & he would be using AI on them too. So I assume that keeps him right.
