Juve are out, and the Europa League isn't guaranteed either.

Ah jeysus that poor lad from Shakhtar 😳

Have Barca any family silver let to sell now.

A great day for football seeing them go out of the Champions League and drop into the Europa League.

Im sure the local banks and government will magic something up.

Bruges throwing the Porto game….0-4 on 76 mins. Makes qualification really difficult for Atletico Madrid. Simeone will be spitting feathers later.

    They went all in.....and lost.

    That's the gamble.

Simeone & Atletico deserve everything they get with there anti football.

Madrid the only Spainish team left in the competition now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,050 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Atleti used to have a lot of casual neutral fans, as they were the underdogs in Spain and decent in Europe. And their manager was a bit of a loon.

But their tactics and general shithousery has tired over the years. Now I like to see whoever is playing them win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,288 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

Still in Atletico's hands to qualify win their 2 remaining games and they are through

Going to be some big name clubs dropping in to the Europa this year. Potentially 3 from Spain, Barca, Atletico & Sevilla all in 3rd place in their groups at the moment.

They aren't that poor mouth either Simeone has spent over €1b on players as manager there along with being the highest paid manager in the world for most of his time there as well.

Mardid spent €1.3b in the period

Barca spent €1.8b in that period.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Simeone gives Napoli the lead against Rangers. It's been coming.

Make that 2-0. Simeone again. Lovely cross by Rui.

Nearly 3-0 as Ndombele hits the crossbar. Rangers could be in for another hammering here. Osimhen, Zielinski and Kvaratskhelia on the bench and may get a run out later.

hope we see Carrasco at an actual football club before he passes his prime

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Great pass by Henderson and excellent flicked finish by Salah for 1-0. Ajax will be cursing themselves as they missed a couple of glorious chances. And just now, Nunez smacks the post, should have been 2-0.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,458 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Ajax must be sick. Dominated for 40 minutes and they then concede. What was the keeper at.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,110 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Should be 2 , Nunez hits the post from a tap in 😞

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,928 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Rope-A-Dope from Liverpool let Ajax run themselves intot he ground and then hit them on the break.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,232 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

Nunez is a liability for Liverpool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

You were saying? 😉 Excellent header to make it 2-0.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,928 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Nunex ran Ajax ragged in the first half and now scores a cracker of a header.

Elliott makes it 3-0. All terrific goals.

Ajax burnt themselves out in the first 30 minutes Liverpool could a hat full now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,232 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

I was just going to type the " aged well" comment 🤣. Great goal by Elliott

Nunez is a fine signing who seems to be getting better and better. Causing more and more problems for defenders with his movement and his finishing will get better. He is surprisingly fast.

Some are quick to write him off. I reckon he will prove himself again and again.

Liverpool really have taken the wind completely out of the Ajax sails.

Nunez MOTM no matter what happens from here on out for me. Very impressed with his work ethic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Ostigard makes it 3-0 Napoli from a corner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,288 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

Some drama in Madrid ref blows for full time at 2-2, and goes for a VAR check to award a pen to Madrid who have then missed the pen

Spurs mugged with that disallowed goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

The finish to Atletico/Leverkusen was mental. How did that not go in.

Some finish to the Spurs game ! Conte sent off

Joke of an offside decision in Spurs game.

Delighted Atletico had some misery tonight.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Can't really blame Conte for going mad. Took 4 minutes to make a decision, complete farce. Ball came backwards from Emerson, how can that be offside?

It was given because of this image, without anyone looking at the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,719 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

VAR is ruining football for me - taking the spontaity out of the game , every goal you now have to wait the 3 minutes - like some stupid computer game now.

He was offside, but it defo shouldn’t have taken so long to get to the decision. A grandstand finish in group D with all teams only separated by 2 points!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,612 ✭✭✭eigrod

Spurs group is incredibly tight. A draw v Marseille will be enough but going to be nervy as a win will put Marseille through

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

We should have won the group except VAR made an idiotic decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,128 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

And with a game to play. Shocking except it isn't as all 3 have been useless for a while now.

Atleti were very lucky to get out of the group last year. Probably wouldn't have except the ref made some terrible mistakes in the Milan game.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,250 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

True, but that offside goal is seriously annoying. The ball went Backwards and then forward off a defender.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,984 ✭✭✭Soups123

The ball going backwards is irrelevant, as it leaves the head Kane has to be behind the ball, it’s tight but it looks like he’s fractionally ahead of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭McFly85

The direction of the ball doesn’t matter? The screenshot shows Kane has a foot offside when the ball intended for him was played. Correct decision, but just took too long to confirm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,378 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

They'd 7 points from four games before tonight when they really should have walked the group. They've the best starting 11, the best squad and best manager in the group.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

I always thought if it went backwards and deflects off a defender, it didn't count as offside. Guess that's why i'm not a ref.

Joke that it took so long though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,176 ✭✭✭Xander10

Where it goes backward , the receiver is usually behind the person playing the pass. Kane was in front, deflection into him is irrelevant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Arsenal fans will be loving it if Sanchez, Guendouzi, Kolasinac and Tavares knock Spurs out. I don't expect it, but Tottenham's away record in Europe is pretty poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

Europa is where all the big boys want to be this year ….
