This is huge for Munster. Over 40,000 fans at Munster game in the province. Anyone thinking Munster should just fulfill the fixture is not on this planet.

I booked a day off work today, came to Cork early and since before lunchtime there's a steady flow of fans arriving and milling around the city and it's great to see.

    Try!

Zebo has made 2 poor mistakes so far.

Scrum under pressure but not as bad as expected. Munster intent in attack is clear, Munster need some possession though.

    Munster's scrum is getting done.

Henco van Wyk was badly caught out in defence in the run up for that try.

South Africa A being very typical South Africa. If they can’t run over the top of you and win penalties. They look clueless.

SA look out on their feet already.

Munster keep moving them around and gaps will open

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,146 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

That's dreadful from JOD. Butchered a certain try.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,026 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

    You were saying?

Enjoying this, lot to be said for touring games, I don't know why Leinster never offer any.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,146 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

They'd conceded three pens in a row at that stage.

Munster are easily the better side. South Africa aren't playing with any depth in the backline and just trying to get by on the strength of the set piece and forwards. Both of which deteriorated as the half wore on.

Herschel Jantjies is having a stinker. Box kicks have been too long and just hit sucked into a maul, didn't know where the ball was and lost possession. If he keeps his head South Africa probably score.

Some stop put to that maul.

    Magical night so far.

Fair f'ing play to the 41k braving that weather in uncovered stands, jesus.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,275 ✭✭✭✭phog

We're playing into a very strong wind in the second half, keeping them scoreless just before half time could be huge for us, we may need the 14point cushion.

    Great night so far

Well this is great fun. Enjoyable game to be honest especially in those conditions.

SA look like they just met up in the car park. Jantjes is absolutely dreadful.

Munster not giving them any time to settle. Get the first score of the second half and it's done.

I believe that it was 2013 when then Leinster CEO Mick Dawson addressed the idea in a Q&A. While it was a long time ago Dawson was the CEO in Leinster until recently so his opinions are still quite relevant.

He was of the opinion that it wouldn't make sense for Leinster. Basically Leinster have to rent the RDS. Leinster would have to pay a match fee for the touring team.

While hosting a touring side would appear profitable in simple terms he felt that a significant number of ticket sales would be casual fans that would buy tickets for a game less during the season. As such the profit would be a false economy and hosting a touring game would not be financially worth it.

He also said that Leinster would need a rock solid case for a game to get IRFU approval to host a touring side as Leinster playing an international side would compete with Ireland Autumn internationals to a greater extent than other teams hosting a touring side as the games would be Dublin.

This has been class so far.

Shane Daly playing really well. Delighted for Zebo with the try. And Barron, lineout maul try was quality. Going for the corner twice was really brave and paid off.

Frisch looking really good with the bit of ball he’s gotten. Gav Coombes and Healy going well too, and Edogbo seems to be attracting a little bit of attention from SA.

Unusually high number of scrums, and still going in with that scoreline is a real positive. Improvement in the scrum as the half went on hopefully we can keep it close there. Small bit worried about our bench, but this is tee’d up beautifully.

Haley knocked that on, I think.
