Fine Tuning - Video Editing Build

I've been looking into a video editing build for a friend, Premier Pro, After Effects, Blender and some gaming. This is not his main work station, just something for home use. He also will play mostly newer console/platform games like Elden Ring or what ever is coming out soon/future. Budget is 1500 Euros (he may be able to get it ex VAT but I need to check)

Have put together the following by reading a bit on https://www.pugetsystems.com/ any input would be appreciated on where to make savings and tweaks.

I went with the Nvidia GPU as they apparently help with scrubbing and some other things in premier pro. Neither PP or AE seem to really depend on the GPU but I've seen Nvidia recommended more than AMD so... Would be open to improving the GPU for him to maybe a 6700 XT if that doesn't make a difference at all in editing.

pcpartpicker says you are @460 so you can afford to get a 5 or 600W PSU - it should be cheaper.

I'd buy the 3060 over the 6700 and I am a AMD fanboy. Cuda will be better for a long time then OpenCL at most things.

If the market doesn't go nuts he can always upgrade the GPU for gaming. The rest will last a long time, CPU's don't age like they used to.

Thanks, I didn't realise the 13600k was only 6 performance cores. I had originally been looking at a 12700k (roughly similar in price). But charts on Puget showed the 13600k performing near a 12900k in AE and PP.

Would it make sense to go back to the 12700k and DDR4 for more cores?

Wasn't quite sure which speed RAM to go for, is 5600 a sweet spot?

Ill definitely look at a cheaper PSU.

Don't take everything Puget says at face value, they are trying to graph and give some semblance of performance of professional content studios who would possibly use every possible feature. Any modern 6+ core cpu is going to blast along in both apps and be perfect for general content creation.

If I were you I'd wait for black Friday and then build a machine around the B550 & 5800X3D. It's supposed to be one the best chips for PC gaming with 8 Cores and a massive L3 cache. (But only because DDR5 is still too expensive for my taste... you may have a different taste :)

@jebidiah you need to figure out which program you'll use the most, and what CPU is best suited for that application.

As I've said it's for a friend and he wants it to be an editing rig first for premier and after effects. And if he can play games at 1080p decent settings then great. I think the 13600k and 3060 will be great, just looking into the differences in performance between DDR4 and 5. Might save a few more quid.

He has also not had a pc at home since before the summer when his GPU went so he definitely won't wait for the 7800 XT etc.

It's been hard enough to stop him ordering a prebuilt from amazon out of frustration tbh!

I'll be ordering his stuff around BF either for delivery from Germany or to our mate who is coming home in early Dec.

Im personally waiting on a 5800x3d to upgrade from my old r5 1600, it's coming this week. I'll see about getting a 6900xt to go with it on BF if prices go near 650. Not sure I have the patience to wait for the 7800xt.
