Who will be our next Ag Minister be? Will Mcgonologue survive?

Had the daft suggestion from a FG man today that it could be Simon Harris🤯

    Where will Pippa be put?

It's more Simon Coveney that Harris ..... Michael Martin wants coveneys current job in foreign affairs when he gives varadkar the seat

Mcgonologue is safe I would say. None of the Green ministries will change so they will not get the main agriculture job.

FA would be a big post for Martin however it leaves his leadership exposed as he would be away a lot.

Couldn’t see anyone in FG going looking for the Ag ministry. Especially when McConalogue is seen as doing OK (that is, no scandals) and unlikely to be moved.

Re Micheál Martin: will it not be just a straight swap with Vlad and no move to Foreign Affairs?

To be honest, I’m not sure there’ll be much change as there’s been no big drama or scandals in the media. The media seem more worried about SF than holding the current Govt accountable.

Might be better for farmers if the media did their job and shone a harsher light on Eamon/Pippa and FF/FG giving them free rein with their middle class utopia of lettuce, wolves in Donegal, shared cars in rural villages, etc.

Are you perhaps confusing media with journalism? The latter being extinct.

Think I heard MM say he wants to lead FF into the next election, probably wouldn't happen as i expect the knives are currently being sharpened to remove him as soon as a chance arises. Don't think Simon Coveney was a great minister for Ag, in fairness McGonologue has been an ok minister & I would be happy enough if he stays in place. Pippa has been a bit clueless and like a rabbit in the headlights, she has the whole green agenda at heart but as we all know that's kinda pointless when there is an unwillingness to actually tackle the big polluting industries like air travel, oil industries & local authorities dumping untreated waste water into our rivers.

McGonologue will be staying put I’d say. Can’t see pippa being promoted anyways.

MM is likely to see a challenge to his leadership after the changeover and he realises this so it wouldn’t be tenable for him to be Taniste if he wasn’t leader obviously. I hadn’t heard about his interest in foreign affairs role but it kinda makes sense.

I think as time goes on MM is safe as leader. MC Sharry was very vocal about him but with the latest developments/outburst his credibility is dented. I think the problem with FF is there is nobody there to replace him. I actually think he's a good taoiseach.

Absolutely no chance of MM leading FF into the next election so it’s essentially a case of when is the best time to replace him. A new leader may strategically think it’s best to wait until the run up to the election in the hope of getting a bounce in the polls.

Potential candidates will be Jim O’Callaghan and Michael McGrath, maybe even our Barry!!!

Jim o Callaghan is dented from the Dublin by election (his support is Dublin based anyway), Mc Grath hasn't enough party support and won't take on his constituency colleague. Barry is at the rebel side of the party and didn't do himself any favours either. There is no-one there to replace him.

Jim Callaghan is a rebel without a cause. Problem with FF is too many of it TD's cannot decide are the socialist or capitalist's. They want to run with the fox or hunt with the hounds. There was twice as many them taught they were entitled to ministerial posts as MM had to divy up and they still have a chip on there shoulder since some of them are very balanced however they have a chip on both shoulders lime Marc McSharry and Jim Callaghan.

I still stand that MM will not lead FF into next election and I’d put my ACRES money on it. He’ll ‘gracefully’ (heaved) bow out and that might even happen after the reshuffle albeit it’ll probably be a little down the road.

whilst McGrath and O’Callaghan are far from ideal candidates, they are still the obvious favourites. McGrath is a serious vote getter and don’t think he’d have any issue in stepping in for MM and my money is on him at the minute. But there is a poor pot to pick from so a wildcard can never be ruled out (McSharry apart).

Senator Pippa Hackett - Minister for Land Use and BioDiversity at the Department of Agriculture

Junior ministry job. How much damage can she do.

Was that not her position for the last 2 years anyway
