    Need some opinions/advice!!!

What makes more sense - 20x400w leapton panels or 20x420w Jinko for +500euro extra?

    trying to decide!

Plus, anybody got their inverter located away from their main junction box? Need it in the utility room, is this usually a problem?

If the question is, which panel is better, the answer is "there's generally no difference between makes".

So then it becomes a question is 400watts extra worth €500? Normally suppliers will add a 400w extra panel for €250. so on that grounds i would say it's not great value, but if the overal quote for everything is decent then I'd be inclinded to go for it. I know that's sort of sitting on the fence, but I can tell you that the biggest regret around here is that people didn't get more/bigger panels on the roof in the initial install.

Aside: I assume your coupling that to a 6kw inverter?

Yes , both quotes are fairly similar on 'euro per kw' but was wondering if there was any major differences in the panels themselves.

have asked for a hybrid inverter - I'm assuming the Solis single phase Hybrid 5G inverter is 6kw??

Nahh no real difference between any of the make/models of panels. You might get one manufacturer who'll (after 10 years) claim to give you 88% production, and another might be 85% after 12 years etc, but generally they are all much to a muchness. Expect to get 20-25 years out of panels and at that most of them will still be churning out 80% power or there abouts.

I'd check that inverter spec and make sure its 6Kw. The "5G" I believe is like 5th generation, but there are various models in that 5th generation range as I recall.

I've 18 JA Solar panels and 16 Jinko panels, can't tell the difference.

You can have your inverter anywhere, you just have to keep in mind the cable to make it's way back to the "main junction box", as long as not a huge run you should be fine and even if a long run all it will require is a higher gauge cable, I've a 16m run and 6sq cable

First rule of unkel: the best solar panel is the cheapest panel per watt. So those 400W panels are better.

Only exception to the rule is if you are very limited for space and a more expensive bigger panel means you can put significantly more power on your roof. This will increase payback time though.

yep, that what i was thinking as well, going to bite the bullet and go for 20x400w all placed on the directly south facing roof.

Started off looking for ten panels, then went up to 12, then i said feck'it ill go for 16 and now i'm about to commit to 20. i think i better stop soon or the roof will collapse along with the bank balance !!!!

Good man. Most of us make the mistake of starting too small and having to upgrade almost constantly until all our roofs are covered with panels 😂

Having filled the roof 4 months ago, I am now looking for more space. We used all 4 small roof spaces available :) So you're right to fill up now

I assume it's pointless to go above 8kw 20 panels??

Nope. The more, the better. It's relatively cheap to add more panels and once they're up, they're up.

Remember we'll all be using a lot more electricity going forward when we slowly stop using all fossil fuels

But if hooking up to one inverter you may "overload" it, you got to check panel voltage and what's the max the inverter can manage
