I would hope that at least the government will process this transfer of our money efficiently. By sending it directly to the Cayman Island and Swiss bank accounts where the vast bulk of this "aid" will end up anyway.

Yes and No. In Ryan's case, the delusional people who voted him in will lap this stuff up. His South Dublin almond latte constituents will love him giving away money to assuage their climate change induced guilt. It's similar to old school Catholics flagellating themselves.

These COP beanfest events are the brainchild of the U.N. and the U.N. being the U.N. it was only ever going one way. "SHOW ME THE MONEY". Anybody that paid any attention to the last few days last year and the crowd around John Kerry and his bag of money would have had a strong indicator of what the Cairo beanfest was going to be about.

It was never about emission or targets, even though our resident useful fool Ryan and others like him in the E.U. kept increasing those targets when a child could have told them that having missed all their previous targets, and renewables not even running to stand still with demand, piling on more demand with E.V.`s, heat pumps etc. made those new targets laughable fiction.

The E.U. has now been left from listening to these idiots looking even more idiotic than the idiots, attempting to use creative accountancy to massage the figures to fit. Even our own home-bred useful (useless ?) idiots are beginning to twig on the demand side where E.V`s are now a no-no and pedal power is the solution.

If Ryan, or any of his supporters had an ounce of cop on they should be hanging their heads in shame rather than attempting to sell this latest act added to the farce.

The youth of the country have their heads screwed on right and are getting involved in coming up with solution to climate change through the National Youth Assembly on Climate Change.

They've just presented their recommendations to Minister Ryan for inclusion in the Government’s Climate Action Plan.

National Youth Assembly on Climate has an awful bang of 1930s off it. When you start indoctrinating the young we should really be looking in a mirror.

You would do well to read the actual report rather than looking silly with nonsense statements like that

Some examples of the proposals from the young folks are:

    and so on

All seems fairly logical to me, and maybe you feel different now that there is some info in front of you. Like I said, you should read the report itself

hahaha they cant even keep the message on track. Road unsafe... Oh you can go hiking. jebus. Bikes are expensive. Try pricing an Ebike.

They are parroting what they have been taught in school, they are prepared for exams to give the expected answer, not to question the narrative but to support it.

This is the sort of crap they were fed by a Green party activist, and surprise, surprise their comments seem to reflect the narrative. Who vetted the presenters? Why were they not given a viewpoint to allow them to question and challenge what they were told? They fed back the answers they were given by the activists.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

We already have people spying on the Neighbours seeing what they are burning. How long till the kids are asked to keep an eye out at home. All very Nightwatch. 🤪

    Whats the opposing view?

    Pollution is good?

    Traffic is good?

Dead rivers and lakes are good?

Excusing the grand conspiracy by the lizard people that you seem to believe in, what do you think is a logical alternative?

The view that charts the phenomenal improvement in living standards since the agriculture and industrial revolution. The real green revolution that feeds billions of people on Earth today, the real fall in deaths due to weather related causes since the beginning of the 20th century, the actual greening of the planet, how much better life is in Ireland in the 2020s compared with points in the past like the 1840s, the war of independence and civil war, the economic hardships of the 1930s and the near collapse of the state in 1957, the effects oil crisis in 1973,1979 and the 1980's recession. The fact that cold kills more people in Ireland each and every Winter season and how insignificant .5C really is in the scheme of things. The fact that polar bears are doing just fine, coral is doing just fine, the arctic sea ice is still there and ALL of the failed predictions of environmental doom since the 1970s charted so you can see them. The reliance by alarmists on modern day fortune telling machines called computer models that have no demonstrated still in predicting anything. The reality of outsourcing production to South East Asia, the fact there are no solutions only trade offs.

Let's consider the loss of control and autonomy you will experience in your future should todays green activists proposals comes to pass. What is the reality of not having affordable energy? Not being able to access energy on demand? All these twits you see grabbing media attention are not building solutions to the problems they perceive, they are lobbying for subsidies, subsidies with no cost benefit analysis, that your labour and productive efforts must pay for.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

Right after that speech you could be followed by Gemma O'Doherty who will discuss why vaccination is a bad thing with the final speaker detailing why the earth is flat and birds are not real.

All you green activists have is fear mongering, this is child abuse.

The opposing view is "but what about dem Indians and Chinese?" A fantastic example of critical thinking right there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,594 ✭✭✭Pa ElGrande

That's not an opposing view. The green activists who presented unopposed to the young people present a view that is unencumbered by reality. For instance they talk about the circular economy and how "we" in Ireland must recycle plastic to reuse it instead of exporting it as is done today. Well, to do this you need the industrial chemical processing infrastructure to return plastics to their constituent molecules and reconstitute them as something else. Aside from the economics of such a process and the energy required, the green activists are also the same not in my back yard activists who will object to the construction of said processing facilities were they to be built in Ireland. They are not concerned with the practical as much as showing how virtuous they are.

You can try and evade and obfuscate all you want, the preservation of your climate religious faith is more important to you than the uncovering of the truth!

There is not a single fact, figure or observation that leads us to conclude that the world‘s climate is in any way disturbed. It is variable, as it has always been, and rather less so now than during previous periods or geological eras. There is no evidence for any climate emergency.

The expansion of continued subsidies for solar panels and wind turbines are not viable, yet presented to us as "virtuous". This year the ads on the radio promote reduced energy consumption, the pricing mechanism also discourages consumption. No economy can grow by cutting energy consumption, it must logically stop development and atrophy, we call this recession. The unemployment rate will signal green activists virtue.

If we in Ireland were to stop all industrial activity, the composition of the atmosphere would not alter in any measurable, perceptible way. Therefore you are are promoting a cause (reducing CO2 emissions) that serves absolutely no purpose.

How about putting Bjorn Lomborg's book 'false alarm' or Michael Shellenberger's 'apocalypse never' in the curriculum for secondary school? Or just juxtapose two opposite views? I think primary school should be free of any narrative or political stance but a place of basic skills and play. But i think they want to breed a full flock of anxious Thunbergs. And secondary school should focus on HOW to think not WHAT to think. However, all major institutions are determined to push a mono culture of 'right' thinking. Selfrighteous it is. It is a closed loop system where nothing from the outside gets in, like the many variables you put into yr post. It is anti western. It is suicide. We are well on our way. Gutierrez was right: we are on a highway to hell, just not the one he and Ursula think they are on. But hey, maybe we can offset the 75 million we kill by higher energy prices by giving poor countries a yearly compensation. A kinda 'dollars for deaths' fund. Climate policy justice..

At the end of the day human ingenuity will solve all issues facing the planet. It always has. Cut backs and negativity are not a solution for anything.

We should take note of what happened in Afghanistan. Some places life is literally cheaper. Both in monetary terms and in social terms (especially for women, whose deaths incurred lower compensation)

This kind of solution is perfect for successful/important people who shouldn't be held back by ideas like fixed social carbon credits. We need these people to be able to do what they want so they can thrive and continue to create jobs, innovate and help us out through trickle down economics.

Fixed carbon credits is a great idea but appropriate for the masses only. Carbon taxes for the rich and fixed carbon credits for the people. With special taxes and levies to change behaviour of the masses. Some subsidies or exemptions would be essential innovative types. Win win.

To Pa elGrande: you know fine well it serves a purpose. It is to end Capitalism by any means possible. Climate policy is just the way to halt the wheel of progress. Just like Ghandi, they want everyone to go back to till the land and have the level of starvation from pre industrial times. With less people on the planet to pay for our original sin of merely existing. Of course it wont be them. They will live out their lives in western comforts while preaching to the poor they should only put up solar panels thereby stalling their progress. The greens have long been actively stopping poor countries from developing. It is either Green or die. That is the western mind set. It is a bizarre form of neo colonialism. Poor countries just want energy but the Greens say: fine, but only the inefficient and expensive ones because you know, we know better...

how to think not what to think. think that ships sailed everywhere these days. can't trust anything these days everything is an agenda.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,205 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

Well there's some truth in what you say and I always feel that a large part of new Green politics is self serving. There's a substantial industry needed both at research & academic level and also in manufacturing and churning the market to roll this vision out. Money to be made.

But it's also true that there has been and is a demonstrable loss of bio diversity. I and I'm sure many others here have seen that in our own life times. This is largely due to both the growth of the human population and the rising living standards that you speak of. Humans are increasingly greedy in terms of resources.

So maybe that's where Green policy should be directed - fewer humans and lower living standards. Reduce, reuse and recycle - make do with less. Across the board, including far less travel both domestic and international.

The problem the Greens have is selling that message as it's not too popular, particularly with young people, so they've turned instead to Green Tech and Green Industry. Promised new solutions that will deliver they say if only we believe and buy into them.

Why not take that mentality to its ultimate and kill your neighbour so you can have your green utopia.

    Truly the mind boggles.
