Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If a person decided to go down the bankruptcy route how long would the process take on average? Is it weeks, months, years?

I read that a person is discharged from bankruptcy after one year but how long does the process take to be declared bankrupt?

You are automatically discharged after 1 year in Ireland now. For your question though, once you have made an application and assuming the papers are in Order you should get a date in the examiners list within months (maybe more/less now). Once the Order is made you need to comply with certain steps. If your financial affairs are complicated it's better to get a solicitor.

You should phone a Personal Insolvency Practitioner or a solicitor who specialises in debt solutions. Any decent one will do a free quick consultation on the phone and able to identify if a PIA, bankruptcy, DSA or DRN is the best insolvency solution for you.

If you choose any of these you should get legal advice from a solicitor if you can afford it at all. Its easy to make a mistake that might result in avoidable long term consequences.

The bankruptcy papers can be done very quickly, depending on the complexity of your situation. Typically can be done within 1 - 2 months.

After you file papers you should get a date for bankruptcy adjudication in front of a judge in 2 - 4 weeks. As others have said, discharge is then after one year.

My main advice would be please do not take advice from random people online in relation to very complicated legal matters. The citizens information page is excellent though, so do read that carefully.
