Nah she's grand. She holds the same political opinions as me therefore I overlook her transgressions.

All very innocuous stuff. Hey did ye hear about Putin?

  • Roisin Shortall and Catherine Murphy were onto something when they set up the SOC Dems. There is a massive gap for a new party. Both have shown they have integrity and are good politicians.

But alas, they have allowed the party become populated by really poor candidates such as Linda Hayden with their overly liberal agendas. Irish people are looking for a slight bit more conservatism. They have read the room wrong.

    A real pity.

You know they were both socialists, right? Both former Labour Party members. And you’re surprised that they’re not conservatives?

For what t is worth, just like in the comedy community where boundaries are blurred in terms of what is acceptable to laugh at, and what can be brought up as joke or what is acceptable is a delicate balance. Honestly, I've seen the most politically correct of my own friends cross that line in the name of humour. It can be very easy at times to get caught up in the banter or piss taking, especially when you are a person who is trying or has been trying to carve out a place for herself in the comedy arena. Looking back at the posts, I can see where or how she has been trying to simulate a laugh in her comments as opposed to hate.

Yes, reflecting back, I think it is fair to say, she cringes at the thought, and would be well able at this point to respect how differences and views may impact on groups. But, is there ever a time we say, ok, this was a more immature person with a different agenda at the time? IMO you don't have to be as holy as thou to have people's best interest at heart, you have to be well intentioned and motivated, which she was. I have no doubt, should a member of the travelling/gay/ethnic minority community had come to her for support, it would have been genuine and forthcoming.

I have no affiliation with Linda other than meeting her once, however, it is just something that caught my attention. the world is a fucked up place, ad it can be so easy to cry politically correctness or be so woke when someone like Linda has been so out there in the public domain on twitter. I know for certain, vast majority have their own ghosts around political correctness issues which may never be as scrutinised in such a way due to their absence in the public domain. You mean to tell me, anyone who called her out, has been whiter than white with regards to difference, culture etc.... their whole lives.... if you say yes, you are a **** liar. It happens regularly. Yes, we may never abuse a person directly etc... but it happens so much more frequent than people are willing to admit.

Do I want to live next to a group of travellers? honestly, no. Do I want to live next to a group of so called "Ukrainian Refuges" who in the most part are single men from other countries? hell no. In fact, do I want to live next-door to a family where cultural differences as such as if it is ok to be how do I say ... strongly patriarchal to the point where women have less views or rights, it is ok to have multiple relationships, and also hit their children as culturally acceptable? ehh, I can honestly say the answer is no. Id just rather not.

But anyway, I am digressing here. **** happens, people have a laugh at difference, and people make mistakes. It is human nature. but people should be allowed to learn from these mistakes, especially when their end goal is for mutual benefit regardless of any of the nine grounds of discrimination.

I think the main problem was that she was so vocal about anyone who said anything that might be on or over the line herself, and then got hoist on her own petard when the same type of stuff was shown on her own twitter account. She was responsible for a number of twitter pile ons with various people and was caught blatantly lying about things which happened to be one of the reasons for one of her pile ons on a particular individual.

I also think that the issue of holy as thou becomes very pertinent when a person spends so much time pointing out how much less holy other people are. If someone takes that approach then they have to make sure the horse they are on is very tall indeed.

I'm sure she can be a lovely person in the right circumstances.

I think you're missing the point.

Agree that most people would have some transgressions; making inappropriate jokes, even those who would identify as being politically correct.

However, there is a small body or mob on the likes of Twitter who will absolutely hang anyone else who has ever made a similar remark. They actively call out others and will trail through years of their online activities just to find something that they can be outraged about. They often are the greatest hypocrits of all and there is absolutely no loyalty to one another either.

For some reason, the main stream media highlights their minority views and paints them as some sort of representation of all of our opinions.

Don't know much about Linda apart from this incident and her run in with Ciara Kelly, but she is a textbook example of one of the Twitter mob and has brought everything upon herself.
