Friday 25 for the Great UnWoke: What are you gonna do instead of watching 2022 Late Late "Toy" Show

I can't think of anything sadder than an adult spending an evening watching the Late Late Toy Show, apart from watching the Late Late Show itself.

Woke has nothing to do with meteorology.

Culturally Irish folk have traditionally been raised to resent anyone who appears to overly believe in themselves, so to speak. Speaking as someone born in the 1960s, children were always told never to boast or show off. Confidence was done thing frowned upon, so it is deeply in our fabric, at least of very many of us born over about 30 years ago. As opposed to USA where there has been admiration for confidence and what we might perceive as bragging.

So somebody like Tubridy, who comes across as “unapologetically confident”, for want of a better description, rubs those of us with an ingrained lack of this attribute up the wrong way. We then kind of enjoy tearing down such a character who has got notions about themselves 😂

One thing for sure, like it or loathe it, it’s become an Irish Yuletide ritual. A bit like Christmas cake, when your aunty offers you some of her long guarded secret recipe cake and you take a “wee slice” because you like your aunt, and for the season that’s in it, but don’t really like the cake.
