Travelling from US via LHR to Cork

My brother is travelling to Cork via LHR from US, and is wondering if it possible to stay airside when he arrives at Terminal 3 to get to Terminal 2 for his Aer Lingus Flight. Obviously Brexit colours things and he can't get a straight answer from anyone officially. Can he just go to Flight Connections or does he have to go to the main passport control hall (and collect his bags etc) ? He doesn't have a lot of time to make his connection. Thanks

Will his luggage be checked through? Is it on a single itinerary?

generally an airside transfer (by bus via flight connections) from T3 to T2 will be quick. As he’s transferring to a CRA flight he will have to do a Border Force check in the U.K.

And just to be clear, Brexit has no impact on this whatsoever.

I just travelled from US via LHR to dublin. moved from one terminal, onto bus, into another terminal. all internal. no hassel, no security except for showing passport from one terminal to another in LHR.

No one can give you the answer to that as you haven't given information on what airlines he's travelling on and how he booked the flights. Are they joined flights with a single airline or airline alliance? If so, he will have to go through passport control at terminal 3, he then has to get the bus to terminal 2 and go through security. Security in T2 has been extremely busy most of the time I've been there recently so expect it to take 30-45 mins at a minimum in total.

If the flights are not codeshare (ie, joined) then he will need to collect his baggage after he goes through t3 passport control, get the bus to T2 and check-in. I assume it's EI he's traveling with to Cork so that gernerally doesn't take more then 15 minutes. So say 1 hour might get him there but! Airlines recommend 2+ hours for connections ......

    Brexit makes no difference whatsoever.

Yes single itinerary, American Airlines (Charlotte NC) and Aer Lingus. Bags are checked through

In that case, it's paragraph one. Passport T3, bus to T2, security and that's it. Shouldn't take more than an hour unless it's a Friday evening.

All on one ticket he stays airside.

Brexit is irrelevant in this scenario.

Just to bookend this, he arrived in T3 , followed the signs for flight connections, bus for T2....then in T2 walked past the main passport control hall to go further down the corridor to one desk checking passports followed by another checking his onward boarding card. Once past these, he came out into the duty free area. Pretty painless. I have to do the reverse journey in two weeks on the way to Chicago, so good to know !

You can stay airside but will need to do passport check and security.

When i went myself, going from T2 to T5 was a breeze, but coming back took standing in the security queue over an hour before a straightforward passport control check.
