Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Harsh but it was over the 10 mins, can't complain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,787 ✭✭✭Benimar

Time was up. Time can only be added on for a penalty. I don’t like Taylor but he was correct there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Fancy Vini Jr. to open his account against Switzerland. Don't think the game will be a goalfest like the earlier games but who knows. I'll say 2-0 Brazil.

All of these only from today!! Hats off all, especially “Loafing Oaf”

Pavlovian response to that ball into the box from big lad Pavlovic

Song can't get a tune out of this Cameroon team.

Kudos to Kudus for that 'faintest of touches'...

Mensa being clever there, running down the clock...

    Keep it going !!

Oh I thought he could add time on for the injury during added time which was about 2 more minutes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

He can. The time on the board is just the minimum amount to be played, but the ref can keep going at his discretion. Sure the ref in the Saudi Argentina game played an extra 3 or 4 minutes on top of the allotted added time.

Ref today could’ve allowed the corner of he wanted.

Annoys me that anytime I've seen a camera pan to Ronaldo on any game he's attending that the commentator has to mention how he's larger than he was back when he was playing. Hamilton again the culprit.

I'd put it to him that a lot of ex pros are larger now than when they played.

Seems particularly in poor taste with his weight gain being down to health problems (hypothyroidism) too.

    Must be last orders

He should've too. Ghana player was down for over a minute and then they took another minute for the free out after.

Not sure if Brazil are quite poor or the swiss quite good I'm sure it's a combo of both.

Brazil passing is slow enough and only openings coming through the wide men doing something special.

Swiss haven't done much going forward seem afraid to try play the killer ball the few times they have had room in the last year third of the pitch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,067 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

Brady looks like he is at home lounging waiting to be served

Edit: someone must have told him both arms down that or was told there is a bit of a pong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,670 ✭✭✭adaminho

Wasn't it Alan Shearer who said that the first thing he did when he retired was to have a double pie meal as he could go back to his natural weight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    VINI JR!

    Damn. Offside.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,067 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

All they need is just one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,862 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

    offside apparently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,914 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Cool Assassins finish from Vini junior. Nope offside amazed at that.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Decent goal, really poor from Elvedi though, don't think he needed to dive in there. Could've stayed on his feet and made it more difficult instead of taking himself out of it.

    <Edit>

never mind, offside at some point earlier in the move apparantly.

Huge let off for Switzerland. Would like to see the replay of that 🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

    Good. Didn't like his celebration.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,442 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Richarlison was offside in the lead up. Was clear in the initial replay so it's baffling how the commentators were so perplexed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

    Good decision. Richarlison offside.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,067 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

Correct decision it looks like came back and was in play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Well spotted by VAR in fairness, was a key part of the buildup.

Yeah, another one VAR got spot on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,067 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

Ref been a bit spicy there with the Swiss player

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Did they mention if Shaqiri picked up a knock or something, or is he just being rested for the big emotional one against Serbia? If he's fit I'd love to see him on soon for the last 15.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,787 ✭✭✭Benimar

Sorry, I wasn’t very clear. What I meant was, if the ref deems time to be up (which he did), he doesn’t have to allow the corner to be taken. You could argue he shouldn’t have deemed time to be up due to the injury just beforehand but that’s a separate argument.

Basically, should he have added more time due to the injury - probably. Should he have added time solely because a team has a corner - absolutely not.

Jayus them Qatari’s mustn’t know where to look with some of them Brazilian wans.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Brazil miss Neymar. His skill would have unlocked this stubborn defence. Hope he's back for the round of 16.

    CASEMIRO!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

C'mon VAR. Nah, no grounds for VAR unfortunately.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,271 ✭✭✭Tandey

Sweet wallop of a strike from Casemiro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,914 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

And Casemiro is only a Brazilian Glenn Whelan, and does that.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Really hope he's not to be honest... good at football and all, but christ it'd be depressing to see him dedicating his first goal to Jair Bolsonaro, as he's already said he'd do. Think we could all do without that sort of right-wing rubbish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,176 ✭✭✭Xander10

In off the arse of the Swiss defender.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,862 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

    CASEMIRO!

Akanji's arse will be launching an appeal to the Dubious Goals Panel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,914 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

What that about? Right in the Swiss fellas face eyeballing him. Thought the Swiss lad was going to react back at him.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Thiago Silva and Marquinhos have been so good. Has Alisson had to make a save this tournament?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,176 ✭✭✭Xander10

RTE lads seem clueless with names

I had no idea he was given a bit of lip but sure they all do that. Thought there be a kick out or something. It was quiet funny given the size of each

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,842 ✭✭✭crushproof

Brazil are both fascinating and incredibly infuriating to watch. Could have had more goals if some of the players weren't so greedy with the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Is there something weird going on with the match clocks or something? Seen a fair few games blown up in the minute before the supposedly minimum added time. No big deal, its usually just 20 or 30 seconds, but just seems a bit odd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Hopefully the Swiss can beat the Serbs in the last one - that one's gonna have some serious fire in it! Major grudge match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Calling it now: Xhaka red card. I can see him being really wound up for that one.

Portugal vs Uruguay hopefully brings a return to the goals of earlier. I'll go 2-1 Portugal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Glad to see Cavani taking Suarez place. Much bigger threat these days. Think he'll work better with Nunez too.

Pellistri dropped as well after a poor game the last day.

That's a good looking Uruguay team, could see them getting a draw or a tight win. Would Hope Uruguay will just tell Nunez to run at Pepe all day.

One things for sure - we're gonna see Portugal players flying all over the place between a mixture of pure diving nonsense, and absolute crunchers from the Uruguayans. Love to see Uruguay nick it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,497 ✭✭✭ArnoldJRimmer

On your last point, the Uruguayans don't exactly have a reputation for staying on their feet either, but may be helped by Bitey being left on the bench. Could be a long game for the ref.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

ha, true enough! Not too many of the starters out there today are too bad for it I think. We'll see how it pans out though! And yeah, really don't envy that ref!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Love Uruguays anthem too, one of the best.

It's a real end of era world cup like just seems to be so many huge names of the last decade and more that we won't ever see compete again.
