Boutique Camping has its own showers. We did a bell tent for the first time last year, fantastic experience. From the Friday it's a really short walk down the hill from the campsite to the Main Stage/Food Courts area.

Was kinda hoping he'll do some of his original stuff - scores from TV / Movies - but probably will be more geared at classical side of things.

Some of his stuff from The Leftovers, albeit largely grim, is fantastic!

In fairness the campsites at ATN are an entire universe away from the lunacy at EP. There's way less walking at ATN from general camping to anywhere else really. The only issue I found for getting around is that the site itself is a bit hilly and can be tough on the knees. I remember stopping at supermacs on the way home and barely able to get out of the car. 😂

Yipee are located in the boutique campsite as far as I remember. We normally go with podpads, its expensive enough but worth it in my opinion if you like your comfort. Boutique campsite is private with good showers and a pamper parlour for the ladies with hairdryers and hair straighteners (I would nearly say it's worth it for this alone!). A couple of vendors as well selling teas coffees and brekkie rolls. Also, a 2 min walk to the main arena which we found very handy for popping back to get cans etc

The walk from the carpark to the boutique campsite this year was hellish though so be warned, hopefully they will change that for 2023

Sugababes have been touring the U.K. in recent weeks, and bringing a serious ladies night out energy to their gigs. I reckon it’ll be a must see for hot girl summer purposes. Delighted at the Max Richter w concert orchestra pairing too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,543 ✭✭✭Ferris_Bueller

Hmm not sure what to make of that lineup. 3 headliners will be good, a lot of names below that I recognise without knowing much about them. Sugababes a real random one that I never would have guessed for this festival, but might go and see them all the same. My only complaint about ATN as a festival has been a lot of the electronic music on at night feel a bit samey - feel that could be repeated with Tourist, Daniel Avery, Overmono, Kelly Lee Owens. Although all OK in their own right.

    Oh dear... 😐️

I don't want to upset anyone, but that is tame. I don't think there's a brave call there at all. There's acts there that have done the rounds before and I still wouldn't go to. As a whole, it's middle of the road; is it pandering to the mainstream, where the money is...I thought there was already another big festival that had recently done that. I'm concerned that the top 5 there are already confirmed as headliners. And I know I'm an undercard person, but they do nothing to make me believe that they are going to spice it up a bit. Very, very disappointing...

But to those that are happy, fair play

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,792 ✭✭✭Fanirish

Who would you like to see?

it’s a 25k festival so it needs to go with established names who sell tickets.

iggy pop first Irish show in 15 years. Jamie xx first Irish show in 6 years.

max richter with rte orchestra all stand as interesting bookings who haven’t played here in years or before

Delighted with Iggy, Caribou and Billy Bragg

Billy will be great, always good value for money. Has the charisma and class to handle most stages, I'd imagine.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,003 ✭✭✭endainoz

I'm not sure how others feel here but I can see this selling quite well on Friday morning. Maybe not quite a sellout but with the hype this announcement has seemed to build up and the general positive response from the last festival, I can see it going quite well.

He plays a rammed tent every year at Glastonbury. He is a fit for wherever.

Quite happy with that but I have seen Caribou twice this year already mind.

Would check out Iggy, Jamie (although poor when I saw him at Metropolis many moons back) Lankum, Max Richter, Billy Bragg, Saint Sister and The Scratch.

Although I have seen Lankum, Billy, Saint Sister the Scratch in the last 3 years.

Jessie Ware is brilliant live supposedly.

He is a real raconteur. His chat between the songs is nearly as good as the music.

My best mate is a socialist and Billy sent him a lovely personal letter endorsing one of his leftie causes, a class act is Bill.

There is power in the union.

Is there some sort of a presale code to use for tickets today?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,003 ✭✭✭endainoz

Never mind, got the email and tickets for ATN 23 in the bag 😃

  • Registered Users Posts: 105 ✭✭desk tidy

I think it's a decent first announcement. Iggy, Caribou, Dan Avery, Kelly Lee Owens for me so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,589 ✭✭✭✭bodhrandude

Check out Tourist too, very good ambient drum n bass, at least that's what he was playing in 2013, might have changed his style since.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

For a man looking to make the switch from EP this year, it's a pretty disheartening line up. Iggy, Billy and the Scratch are about the height of it, Cruel Sister and the Clockworks have a bit of potential. I enjoyed the first 2 ATNs but the key for my own relationship with Curraghmore is that they maintain the balance between the dance/ electronic stuff and the rest, primarily i suppose stuff that emanates from a guitar. I see people constantly comparing it to old EP. I wasn't there for the first few years but those lineups represented the whole spectrum. I really hope ATNs lineup stays diverse and imaginative. I won't be diving in after that announcement.

I'd imagine there will be plenty of that stuff to come: Gurriers and Enola Gay (thanks to this thread) were brilliant last year, plus you had King Gizz etc

  • Registered Users Posts: 218 ✭✭fish_fingers

In answer to your question--I don't know 🙂

I think that is the crux of this. This is going to sound strange to some, but I do want to see some artistes that obviously excite me (which is subjective), but more importantly for me, I want to see a list of (usually edgy) artistes that I haven't heard of, or have heard of in name only. I like to do my homework, invest in a festival, search out new artistes beforehand. Unfortunately, for me here, for the 20 acts above, I have, in previous years, done my homework for the vast majority of them, and left them there, pursued another act instead. So, in effect, at this point, I've nothing to do, and the vast majority of these acts will probably remain unseen for me 😉

As a reference, the best ever lineup (that I knew ef all about beforehand), but that I immensely enjoyed, was vastly wide ranging in style and genre, was Green Man this year. It, by the way, is also a 20k festival.

The initial announcement for ATN is always going to be established name heavy (as they need to generate desire to attend in the masses).

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,239 ✭✭✭Dreamweapon

It's not just the lack of guitar acts, but the electronic stuff is so dull. Don't people like to dance? Too many festivals just book electronica that inspires nothing more than a gentle swaying. Feck that.

Just a reminder that Enola Gay and Gurriers (plus Panikataks) are in the Workmans Club next Thursday 8th December.

Big on the all mouth and trousers scene

  • Registered Users Posts: 218 ✭✭fish_fingers

Now there's a band I can vouch for. Saw Gurriers at ATN this year and they were excellent. My Christmas party is on that night for work.

You've reminded me of a few years back...me and the bro were at our Christmas party then, and the Murder Capital were playing in Workman's that night. So we phecked off for a couple of hours from the party, with one ticket between us. Met James outside and asked him would he let the bro in--sound man--he did, put him on the guest list 😉 Great raw gig back then. Then we returned back to the party afterwards 😀 and no one was the wiser...

Just curious, if you were the ATN booker who would've you booked out of the limited pool of acts touring in 2023, plus it is only the first round of names, are you looking for underground hip hop acts, what electronica choices would you make. When ATN completes their lineup I can guarantee that there will be a few guitar acts added, there always is with this festival. On a note about Iggy Pop, was listening to one of his shows recently on BBC Radio 6 and he was raving about the Gilla Band and played a few of their tracks, so to me he's keeping active and I don't think he'll disappoint, did he not have some of the members of QOTSA in a recent outing over the last year. Saying that I have heard of disastrous solo outings of Iggy when he was hitting the drugs more back in the time, but I think he still looks great for a man in his mid seventies.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Loyle Carner is class, haven't seen him in years. Saw Jamie XX & Caribou on the same day at Primavera this year & both were great. Jamie XX's current show is absolutely immense. Max Richter will be well worth a watch. Picked up a ticket today, enough there & they really nailed everything last year so reckon its worth the investment.

Going to see Lankum next weekend which should be a great one. They’re a great booking and are an exclusive they’ve said

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,239 ✭✭✭Dreamweapon

I have absolutely no idea who is or isn't touring next summer and i'm not going to trawl the internet to find out. I'm also not going to worry about who is tied in with which promoter/festival. However, i thought Leftfield would be a shoo-in for ATN, especially with a new album released yesterday. As for other electronic acts? I'm actually struggling tbh. Blawan/Karenn maybe. I dislike as much of their material as i like though.

I'll put up a list of acts that i think would go down well at any festival, aren't a difficult listen and would be affordable. Rather than name tons of acts i'd like to see no matter what their musical fit/cost. I realise these are more lower-mid tier acts though:

Oh Sees, Slift, Moon Duo/Wooden Shjips/Rose City Band, 10000 Russos, Gnoomes, Julie's Haircut, Josefhin Orn & The Liberation, Lay Llamas, Snapped Ankles, Vanishing Twin, The Liminanas, Goat, Kamasi Washington, The Comet Is Coming, Mdou Moctar, WITCH, Antibalas, The Budos Band, Left Lane Cruiser, Shawn James & The Shapeshifters, Tess Parks, Minami Deutsch, Bodega, Pom Poko, Cavern Of Anti-Matter, The Bug, Bob Vylan, Steve Mason (ex Beta Band, new album in March), Tau & The Drones Of Praise (the closest i get to Trad/Folk), The Jesus & Mary Chain, Spiritualized, Stereolab (last 3 acts for the oldies!).

I reckon any of them would attract passers by or anyone who did some research beforehand and are not at all challenging to the ears (with the exception of The Bug perhaps, who i could see not being everyone's cuppa but he pulled a good crowd at B&S).

As for Iggy? I'm aware of his keeping up to date with music. I was just trying to stress that you won't get the same impact from an Iggy solo set as a Stooges one. He'll play some Stooges songs sure, but there'll be a lot of his own material which just isn't as good. I'm sure he'll be fun, just don't expect the same visceral impact as a Stooges gig is all i'm saying.

I think the catchphrase of boards.ie was "Now Ye're Talkin'"...that's a list!!! 😁 Nice job!

Some of these I've seen, and would go again, some I know, and would like to see, some I don't know, and would like to investigate 😉
