So received this email today from bord gais. Regarding the microgen are they taking the pi$$ or what. First payment won't be for another 12months and then every 12 months after that. How are they allowed to do this.

We are happy you have chosen our Microgen Export Plan offer. This offer pays you for the excess electricity you export to the electricity network.***

See our Microgeneration terms and conditions and Privacy notices here.

    What happens next?

We’ll calculate your first Microgeneration tariff payment one year from your start date. You’ll receive your first payment as a credit on your first electricity bill after this. Subsequent credits will be applied every year thereafter.

Thank you for being a loyal Bord Gáis Energy customer. If you’ve any questions on Microgeneration, please feel free to contact us on 01 611 01 04 or visit bordgaisenergy.ie/home/help.

    Plus this most importantly....

    • "If you’re eligible for a smart meter, you’ll need to have one installed to qualify for a payment."

I said in a few other threads that their T&C's are worded in very murky statements with no clarity as to where we stand. It is a joke how they get away with it but this is Ireland after all. Wake up CRU.

Seems is a complete joke. Trying to cover the law under their own T&Cs. CRU is letting the big biz rule. What a shame.

Change provider is the only thing you can do.

Only problem there is Bord Gais had the best rates I could get when renewing 2 weeks ago. 40% off standard rates and with the backward running meter I don't want to cause to much sh1te with them until it has to be changed. I envisage a fight with them at some stage though about deemed FIT and who is eligible. With the money being thrown around by the Government I won't have to dip into my own pocket for a long time though for electricity bills.

Hey, out of curiosity what 24hr rate did you get with BG? I'm on a 24hr rate for same reason as you. Have 28.5c from Energia. Was 22.5c before the rise this month.

I think its just under 29c .2885 or something like that before vat. They contacted me to offer me the same discount I was on from last year 40%, but seem to be offering people different discounts and some nothing at all.

I was going through my correspondence in relation to FIT with them and here is one of their emails.

    Hi ****

We recently got in touch about your microgeneration payments and told you we’d be back in contact with more details about our tariff.

We’re happy to announce that we’re paying our eligible customers with smart meters 18.5 cent for every kWh they export back to the grid. You will be eligible to accept our terms and conditions and sign up for a payment as soon as you have a smart meter installed.

Contact ESB Networks about prioritising the installation of your smart meter.

I have a smart meter and signed up to the Bord Gais smart meter EV tariff as it was the best discount I could get. I have 1 EV with a 2nd on the way, I also have lots of other appliances I can time for the cheap rate so it made sense.

What really frustrates me is that they will only pay FIT after 12 months on the tariff. It's a complete copout!

If you're still on the 10 day cooling off, did you look at the Pinergy EV rate? @irishchris is on that afaik and pays the highest FIT and regularly. Or Energia EV rate either. Again, due to pay FIT regularly afaik.

I'm 2 months into the contract so no hope of changing. I had an awful time with Energia with what was promised by the retention team in September. It will be a while before I can go back to them unless they have an offer that's just too good to refuse.

May be worth considering the 50euro contract breakage fee and leave them for better option. Energias EV rate is decent and I'm with pinergy who I can't fault. Three hour 6c charging window at night and fit of 25c paid every month with your bill

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,090 ✭✭✭silver_sky

Pinergy are putting the rates up from January.

I'm on the BG EV tariff also and have been looking at Pinergy. Will see what Bord Gais offer when my renewal is up in Feb.

I'm not too impressed with their payment terms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,460 ✭✭✭Evd-Burner

Right now my EV rate is just below 9c. Would want to see what January goes to before doing any kind of switch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,460 ✭✭✭Evd-Burner

I've worked it out and the extra fit alone would pay for the 50 early exit fee with how much I exported.

Do Pinergy pay it out on a monthly basis?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,090 ✭✭✭silver_sky

Yeah, every month and I saw some mention on the facebook group that they had already started.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,460 ✭✭✭Evd-Burner

Has anybody been paid FIT at any stage from BG yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,489 ✭✭✭SD_DRACULA

They owe me from last year and they stay they said will start paying in March.

I posted the below in the Feed in Tariff thread after seeing people had the microgeneration section on their bills now but I don't and spent the morning on to idiots who haven't a clue what's going on.

"It would appear after an hour of talking to an idiot it's because I have not requested a smart meter off ESBN. I would imagine Bord Gais are going to use that to avoid paying certain people. I don't really care due to the old backwards meter, so will be getting full credit for export if any.

I just don't know why it's up to the customer to chase something ESBN were notified about with the NC6 and are aware of who has what meters. I will be leaving it there for now but will get a sudden dose of covid if ESBN turn up with a meter anytime soon."

Crap, I assumed the NC6 did all that. So there is an action for the home owner to also notify their energy provider that they are a micro gen now?

And is that just something each energy provided can decide themselves? Seems like the is red tape to prevent payouts. And I don't normally feel that way.

That was the reps take on it but to be fair they hadn't a clue. Had no idea about deemed export and kept having to talk to another member of the team when asked anything off the norm. I didn't push to hard because they started saying they would get in touch with ESBN to get the meter changed to a smart meter.

I told them not to as I was ringing them next and after that the CRU but that is a waste of time going that route by the way others have been palmed off by the CRU when complaining about B/G terms & conditions on the microgeneration scheme. I also don't want to draw to much attention to my meter!

I’d say wasting your time trying to get anything agreed until they actually start to pay people. T&c’s below say only deemed if …”your meter type is not eligible for a smart meter installation as part of the ESBN led deployment approach under the NSMP at this time or they are eligible for a smart meter installation but unable to have a smart meter installed for other reasons outside of their control.” I’d say scheduling of smart meter install is outside your control. I left them in Jan so can’t imagine they’ll be going out of their way to contact me to let me know they owe me money.

Did anyone get anything paid out yet? I just received my bill from March and not a cent on it.

It's over a year since my first export, I've agreed to their terms and conditions and have a smart-meter since 2021. I ideally don't want to wait until May now to get paid out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭carrickbawn

Same as that. Smart meter since feb 2022. My next bill due end of March and my contract up a week later.

Not a cent yet and spoke to them a few weeks ago and was told i would be paid in March. They told me before that it would be paid in February.

They are saying now that they are paying every 6 months so at this stage I am totally confused. They are all over the place.

Any luck getting paid the FIT?

I just got my lastest bill, I am 6 months with them and as per the site notice but still nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 433 ✭✭munsterfan2

Yes, had an 80eur payment on my march bill ( issued 5th April ), seems about right. No refund on the PSO though :-)

For anyone else still waiting to get paid…I left BG earlier this year. Last week I submitted a question on their website with account details asking when I was going to get paid and got this email back…

We don't have a set date as to when you will receive the payment for micro generation. ESBN will calculate how much you have exported to the grid and give us the figure for you to get back. As soon as micro generation payments begin you will receive your refund. Sorry for the delay.

I replied yesterday and asked for it to be raised as a complaint and miraculously got a response this morning to say I would be paid on the 11th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,786 ✭✭✭DownByTheGarden

I think they are hoping people will forget about it. We kept at them and they paid it. I dont think they have any intention pf paying it to people that dont hassle them for it.
