Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looks like yet another case of someone not understanding what they read.....

    Quelle surprise

    Again...pile on.

Bully me all you want. I won't back down.

Dude you came here to pretend to be a conspiracy theorist for some reason.

Like I said. You aren't being very funny or helpful.

Lol man you don't realize but soon enough you will, you're stuck with a load of sealions..... They're known as the sealions throughout the whole of boards. All they do is sealioning...

It's a little game that's played in here. You'll be turned inside out upside down and repetitive discussion. They have no interest in what you have to say or discuss. They get some kind of kick out of winding lads up.

I've noticed that the accusations of being paid shills have dried up lately...

Lol better off taken the redundancy like I did. The grass is greener over here, just came in to collect my old tool box. You're keeping the place well. I miss you guys:)

I just prefer honest discourse. We can all talk rubbish, but we can believe that rubbish. But! Sitting back and going "that's rubbish " is not helpful.

Ct's need to prove stuff, which is true to an extent, but there is no indicative proof as such. Show proof against these, I hesitate to say it, theories.

Smarmy posts do nothing for me. What do they get out of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,343 ✭✭✭✭King Mob

But again, you came onto this thread with the express purpose of pretending to be a conspiracy theorist.

What was your motivation for doing this? Please be honest, since you like honest discourse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,442 ✭✭✭bad2thebone

They only get what you're willing to feed them.... starve them and they have nothing to whip you with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,317 ✭✭✭gameoverdude

For you to be honest. Again, as I said, you sit back and laugh at people's beliefs and add nothing.

You have absolutely no knowledge as opposed to attaching some articles.

Smugness without substance doesn't sit well me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,343 ✭✭✭✭King Mob

Lol. Again with your gaslighting and again, you avoid the question I asked.

    Perfect demonstration of hypocrisy.

What is added by you pretending to be a conspiracy theorist, mocking the people who are now latching onto your posts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,205 ✭✭✭✭Dohnjoe

Noticed how? What accusations? By whom? Prove it! Definition of "dried up"?

Oh I misread, thought you were someone else, accidentally used the sea-lion script from the SOP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,317 ✭✭✭gameoverdude

Counter weight to you dismissing people out of hand with no substantial evidence except for posting articles you readily admit you don't understand.

Whether I believe stuff on the ct forum or not Is irrelevant. Honest effort and discussion is important.

That's why I posted what I did. For both sides. To get honest discussion.

See how easy it is to poo poo just thoughts and queries? Also how easy it is to go down the rabbit hole?

Maybe step back and not be so confrontational. On the other side, maybe see what the non ct person is saying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,343 ✭✭✭✭King Mob

So you falsely pretended to be a conspiracy theorist by pretending to hold ridiculous beliefs.

And this was an attempt to make discussion more "balanced".

    Lol OK man. Good job.

Lol. More gaslighting. Not very honest of you.

You certainly are behaving like a conspiracy theorist now with the desperate dishonesty and all.

Im going to be upfront and as transparent to engage in this topic. I’m fairly easy to google based on my posting history.

Firstly I have no clue what gaslighting means and the amount of times it has been raised on this thread shows I really need to brush up on modern vernacular.

This post is purely based on my experience. If we take the common definition of conspiracy theory, it is defined as situations caused by sinister or powerful groups usually with political motives.

In my career I have provided advice and opinions and worked on cases for the attorney general and DPP and the following case defended the other side. Similarly i have provided opinions on rules of evidence in the international criminal court and then to groups who may be participating there.

Most recently specialising in anti money laundering and counter terrorism I engage with law enforcement agencies and also institutions that may require advice.

But my point is, my experience is not skating around the corners. It’s right up in the middle of the beast. If there were groups manipulating outcomes or involved in the cases it would have been apparent.

But I’m open to discussion. But to discuss this takes more than ‘pure speculation without foundation’.

My point is, I have been involved in cases where conspiracy theorists have bet their lives that evidence would be disappeared or the case itself pulled. Didn’t happen.

I have advised on policy to help minorities that parties went on record as saying banks/stakeholders would veto. Went through.

advised particular groups on international criminal law that many thought would end in jail.

example after example. But not once has a conspiracy theory came to be proven.

Gaslighting comes from an old movie

It's where someone tries to warp your perception of reality. That's if you let them.

Debunkers and conspiracy theorists are very prone to gaslighting.

If you observe a group of people having a debate about a conspiracy theory you'll notice how they try to twist everything and dig a hole and hope for the other to walk into it

Discussing a conspiracy is best discussed one to one. In here you have the Aldi version of conspiracy theorists and Aldi version of debunkers. Put them in a room together and they'll gaslight the hell out of each other.

The whole vaccine debacle is a big one at the moment. You've one side who'll go down the rabbit hole and the other side who trust the system ie pharma industry no matter what they won't question the possibility of potential dangers surrounding the vaccines.

Now any rational sharp person would have the ability to realize that one size doesn't fit all, that goes for food, medicine, drinks, fabrics, smells, washing powder... there's a long list.

Not everyone is the same, I'm allergic to certain fabrics. So cotton is my usual garment.i cannot wear anything with formaldehyde resins and paraphenylenediamine. Similar with tatoos,I can't get inked with colors in case there is paraphenylenediamine in the ink.

So I opt for black and grey tatoos.

As for the excessive deaths at the moment, the jury's out on that. Some people will blame one thing and another will suggest climate change. But that's a discussion I'm unqualified to discuss.

There was a conspiracy or local lore about a bog lake near Corofin Co Clare being full of rainbow trout. To get to it is dodgy, lots of rushes, soft ground and dyke's or ditches you'd need waders to get to even in the summer time to avoid sinking up to your knee's and not ruining your shoes, boots etc

Who in their right mind would stock it with rainbow trout as it would be pointless and hard work also expensive. Anyhow during the lockdowns I said to hell with it. So I drove the few miles, hiked through scrub, ditches and soft shakey ground. Set up my fishing gear. After a few cast's I caught a plump rainbow trout, and another and more. And I had to eat humble pie. It was true but I had to go find out for myself.

Ain't going to waste my energy to find out who's putting a few hundred rainbow trout into a pond that nobody would even fish. So I was wrong and the local story teller was right. ... there's rainbow trout in that swampy pond on the edge of the Burren.

There's very few conspiracies on this forum. It's mostly just an outlet for denial and anti-science/vaccines/government views.

Of the few conspiracies that do crop up they are typically innuendo more than anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,343 ✭✭✭✭King Mob

And this is because the vast majority of conspiracy theorists are just repeating the opinions and factoids fed to them from their social media feeds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,906 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

Your story isn't a conspiracy though, unless there was an anti-trouter movement and cover-up to prevent you getting there. Theorists in particular need there to be a big bad to justify their own views, the flat-earthers need an ice wall to exist and evil pilots to go in circles for hours to maintain the illusion, the anti-vaxxers need "extreme pro-vaxxers" to fight against (0 people are getting vaccines for the sake of it bar a few uneducated in the states who would go pharmacy to pharmacy based on their own misunderstanding on vaccines). No one implicitly trusts pharma companies (despite all the nice ads they make), they do trust the independent science that occurs to verify their claims, they are unlikely to do that science themselves (though some here have),

I've been lucky enough to learn and apply a lot from my days in the labs both in college and business (the former was physics and chemistry and the latter was biological) so know the processes and how to read the data, but also to read all the data (and I'm as interested in the studies showing a branch of science was built on a bad paper and data as the fusion breakthrough that will take years to commercialise) and not hide the parts that I disagree with (which is endemic on here, how many posters are hoisted on their own petards by just pasting the next sentence of the quote).

What is most telling is when a theorist is proven irrevocably wrong, they just ignore, go quiet for a few weeks and post the same thing again to try and start the entire top to bottom debunking a second time, hoping they'll somehow be proven right this time.

I can't get inked with colors in case there is paraphenylenediamine in the ink

You could be ahead of the curve there due to the EU bans on certain colour tattoo ink chemicals, though paraphenylenediamine itself could be removed in the future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,442 ✭✭✭bad2thebone

Well if they post the same again and again, best thing is to disengage with them.

No point in trying to prove something with someone who's indifferent or not willing to expand their horizons.

Leave the debunking to people who are qualified, no point plagiarism or quoting people who put hard work into writing or compiling their own hard work.

Atheists and theists are guilty of plagiarism in debate's trying to copy the Hitch Dawkins and the religious and their holy books and both stead fast in their beliefs or lack thereof. Going around in circles both as mad as a brush...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,317 ✭✭✭gameoverdude

Jealous of your huge brain and intellect.

While I do like a lot of your posts and you're probably smarter than me (no achievement), I dislike your demeaning utterances.

The reason I'm posting here is to have an open discourse. You don't agree, I don't agree, others don't agree...so what?

I don't like bullying tactics and people looking down on others.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,343 ✭✭✭✭King Mob

So you believed that pretending to be a conspiracy theorist and expressing views that you believed they held would somehow balance out discussion?

Or would prove that conspiracy theorists aren't just parroting stuff they read off social media?

Still a bit perplexed to what your point is.

    I suspect you are too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,702 ✭✭✭✭greenspurs

Why do you 2 tag team each other and feel it is your 'job' /mission to defend populist ideals, that YOU believe in?

Whats your problem with people just discussing theories ?

1)Remember - "A theory never becomes a fact. It is an explanation of one or more facts. A well-supported evidence-based theory becomes acceptable until disproved. It never evolves to a fact.

2)Theory definition - "formal statement of the rules on which a subject of study is based or of ideas that are suggested to explain a fact or event or, more generally, an opinion or explanation: "

I remember some years ago , before you 2 became the gate keepers, people were allowed post their point of view , their opinion about JFK, 911, Moon landings etc without having to "prove it" , etc.... without being harangued and 'bullied' about what they thought, about what they think/felt happened/didnt happen. Just post what you think happened, and have a discussion.

Questions were asked ,and you gave your explanation - Instead of the 2 gatekeepers now locking on and demanding facts to back up your theory (?? see point 1 above)

I stopped visiting the CT threads due to you 2 sucking the discussion down into your 'prove it' black hole...

Except your accusations here are completely false.

    I don't ask for proof.

I gave up asking conspiracy theorists for evidence long ago.

I constantly ask them to just explain their beliefs and why they believe them.

We keep hearing though that this is somehow "shutting down discussion". It's bizarre.

Questions were asked ,and you gave your explanation

So why not give explanations anymore? That is all anyone is asking of Conspiracy Theorists.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,525 ✭✭✭Curious_Case

    Sealions?

    Oh, the gatekeepers of concensus

Yet so ineffective, if they've graduated to accepting that the world isn't flat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,343 ✭✭✭✭King Mob

Because conspiracy theories don't like giving explanations.

90% of the time they can't give them because they are only repeating things from social media and haven't thought about the theory beyond that.

The other 10% of the time they understand that any explanation they attempt would sound ridiculous or false.

In both cases they don't want to simply state that they can't offer an explanation or accept that that's an issue for the theory because it ruins the fun of the conspiracy theory

    Lol.

I don't "tag team" with anyone. I don't feel that posting here is "a job" or "a mission". I don't know what "populist ideals" you are referring to that I believe in.

I have no problem with people discussing theories. As I've explained though, conspiracy theorists aren't interested in discussing their theories.

As I said in my last post, your premise begins with false accusations.

Nobody has any issues with discussing conspiracies, that is exactly what we are trying to do. It would require the conspiracy theorists to answer questions though in order for a discussion to happen.

All we get is a vague suggestion from one side about something sinister having happened, and that they are just "asking questions" without actually specifying what they are suggesting or what their questions are.

Then the other side asks for some basic explanation of the theory, to which we are then told that we are picking on the theorists as they refuse to answer anything or even lay out in very basic terms what their theory is.

Well , maybe its your way of asking these questions you feel 'have' to be answered? 🙄

Not everything you think could be true requires a person to have a fact filled binder or folder ready to upload because the CT Gatekeepers require/demand answers .....

I think some people are a$$hat$ , but i dont have any facts to back up my gut feeling.......

And regardless of what you say/think , certain people on here are killing threads due to their constant insistence. You cant post one comment in here without being jumped on .......

    Questions like:

    "What do you believe?"

And "Why do you believe that?"

    Conversation killers those alright.

But previously you were claiming that it was "demands for proof" that were the issue. You're now changing your story because this falsehood was challenged. You might want to get your story straight before complaining.

Have you considered that maybe you conspiracy theorists shouldn't be so afraid of questions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,343 ✭✭✭✭King Mob

Nowhere. I plucked them out of my arse as a concise rhetorical point.

If you prefer, you can read my points as "The vast majority" instead of 90% and "the vast minority" instead of 10%.

Why are you asking me for "proof" of something when you previously announced that doing such a thing was unreasonable and "trolling"?

Oh I see. You were trying to give me a "taste of my own medicine."

But do you not notice how I answered your question directly, concisely and clearly? Did you not notice how easy it was?

I have no issue being asked about my points and my claims. I have no issue with answering questions. Cause that's how an actual discussion works.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,702 ✭✭✭✭greenspurs

But you made up stats? You just threw numbers out there? 🤣🤣

Isnt that the Crazy Theorists modus operandi??

"do you not notice how I answered your question directly, concisely and clearly? Did you not notice how easy it was?"

But you just made up random stats to make your point?

So you can make up anything you want now, but its ok as it was "concise and clear" .... 🤣🤣🤣

"Oh I see. You were trying to give me a "taste of my own medicine."

Why did you put quotation marks around 'taste of my own medicine' ? Were you quoting someone? Or was it for DRAMATIC effect ....?

Why are you in this thread anyway? You arent a "Conspiracy Theorist" , are you? Is there no "Con Theory debunkers" thread ......??

Lol No man. I did not "make up stats". What a ridiculous thing to claim.

Making up stats would be like claiming that the vaccine isn't effective based off a misrepresentation of a study that you haven't read.

Are this increasingly inane questions another attempt at "giving me a taste of my own medicine"?

Or is your arse a confirmed source for CT facts and figures? (probably is ...🙄 )

I'm still very interested in hearing how conspiracy theorists organise their belief systems for themselves. How do they justify all of the obviously dishonest tactics and arguments they use. Why they keep believing things and people that they know they shouldn't.

But I fear that such a conversation would require a conspiracy theorist to be honest and self aware.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,442 ✭✭✭bad2thebone

Here to stop the conspiracy theorists from spreading misinformation. Ones living across the pond sleeps, eats and lives in the conspiracy theory forum. Probably hooked up to all kinds of contraptions. Unable to move freely in the real world.
