I wonder is that why his show goes out at 10 pm on a Monday night so no one notices he is still at RTE, although I did hear him on Sunday evening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,724 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

Apparently he will be doing two programmes a week for the summer.

At least he does research and has an interest in his subject which is more than can be said for Duffy et al.

    You said it, Bren.

Once you hand out that sort of moola to a staffer in the building, they are most likely on it for the rest of their days in there. Even if it's only in the firm of an "allowance".

Is it pensionable or non pensionable?

If only there were some public interest watchdogs who would ask questions similar to these on behalf of the license fee payer! Those useless c**nts on the Dail Committee never seem to ask a pertinent question of the DG and her lieutenants.

    Correct and right MR E.

Reason,as I see it , is that the journos don’t want to ‘rock the boat’ out there is of course that they are all in the same ‘club’ as it were, and who knows they might be in for a ‘big buck bonanza’ some time in the future.

Quite similar with the politicians who will always be trying to ‘sweet talk’ Montrose as they all know they can be turned on’ in a flash.

Whats needed is a Dennis Skinner type dude with ostensibly no dog in the fight to start lifting slates and standing up for the hard pressed licence payer..

Often wondered if the staffers take a pay cut when their work load is reduced. Mooney and Darcy post his TV show being two cases in point. 117 employees on more than €100k basic salary as recently as 2020. Handy work if you can get it alright.

I dont understand why they get George Hamilton (Contractor) to fill in for Marty Whelan (Contractor) on Lyric FM

Surely getting an RTE permanent staffer that they are already paying to fill in, who's not doing much, would make sense ?

one chap in his seventies and the other not far from 70. Madness and unnecessarily expensive. This on a service that is supposed to be fairly specialised with a tiny market share and a listener reach within the margin of error on the JNLR survey (3per cent).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44 Dom the chemist

Whatever happened to that Matthew Norry chap that had been Marty Whelan's fill in?

It looks like Ray Darcy had been called in to do the Replay programme tonight.

They're playing a programme from years ago instead of today.

So far we've had Paddy O'Gorman talking to Sean O'Rourke on "Today With Sean O'Rourke" and Olivia O'Leary on "Drivetime with Mary Wilson" telling a story about her one year old child.

I see the six one news is down to 30 minutes with the usual reeling in the years picking up the slack, is that it until September?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,937 ✭✭✭StevenToast

Ya, time to bring back this thread....

Tubridy off for weeks...Hair Byrne gone...Lord Boucher Hayes In...6 one down to half hour...

And they want you to pay the licence fee!!😂

    Monkstown is like a graveyard.

Well well well It’s that time again.

The briefcases are packed, the gúnas are taken out, the ‘little place’ in Tuscany has had the beds aired.

Gogggins are getting in the ‘good wine’ as the annual ‘ migration of the stars’ commences.

Ballsy seems gone already…Ronan almost gone…Nooze Hannon moved on…O’Mongáin (what was he doing!) brought in

Seanie peeping o er the parapet again..Marty has enough time to go on stage..

Lets keep an eye on developments here, all contributions welcome.

    Meanwhile ….autopilot on…check…FMC updated…check…anti ice on…check…mixture lean……carry on!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,175 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Now yellow card for that……It’s Brenda Donohue……not sure how she spells it but like Paschal there is no ‘O’.

    Your point is good though..

Ciara King in on Late Date, Cathal checked out last Thursday until New Year, other than a Christmas Eve special.

Yes the "Stars" are on the move ...I predict big migration this time ....Dublin Airport will get increasing mention...most of the big shows are pre-recorded...only a skeleton staff in the Pink Palace over the festive season.....

Aengus Cox, son of Valerie who took RTE/the tax payer for €50k in an age discrimination case, with a rare outing as Morning Ireland host alongside Mary Wilson. Some of the regulars already with the feet up.

Lad does it a fair bit, bit of a ‘super sub’ .

Does some various reportage too, however like the Ma in her day doesn’t seem to stray too far from the environs of the M11.

Id say a quadrant of 50 km South from the Mother Ship in Donnybrook would be the lads preferred bailiwick.

    Hmmm..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,261 ✭✭✭✭Losty Dublin

Fiachna was in for Creedon this evening while Drivetime was padded out with a PBH podcast episode. Don't get me wrong, it was good but lads, c'mon, a podcast doesn't even have tape hiss 🤓

Yeah heard that Dude....got a very strange and affected accent....sounds over elecuted...but then I don't know the lad's complete background.

Yeah the ma stiffed JQT for a few bob all right...happens a bit out there I understand ...wonder did Blainaid's little scuffle with the Pooh-Bahs cost her any legals ?

Anyways suggest we give a report card for the stand in's in early January...see if any hidden gems are identified ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭RINO87

In fairness that does go out every Monday, think they are on episode 18 now, so be prepared to hear all of them again (some for the 3rd time) every evening over christmas

No sign of Dobbo on the News at One, today it’s the much underrated Robert Short, yesterday Gavin Jennings.

    Wheres Dobbo gone?

Colm O’Mongain promoted from The Late Debate to Drivetime, looks like an early Christmas for Cormac

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,175 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Good call A, came from obscurity as Deppity Foreign Editor, to the Late Debate, to the Saturday gig and now to Drooivetoime as he says himself.

Huge improvement on that braying jackass who holds the position up to now.

Wonder who replaced him as ‘Deppity Foreign Editor’. ……..uhmmmmm….yeh.

Derek Mooney back on radio 1 this afternoon with Santa. Probably a prerecord.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,175 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Often wonder what kind of a wedge Del Boy gets now.

Was well sinecured back in the day…….I guess we will never know.

A handy €5k per week or €268k annual salary at the peak of his powers. Just the one hour a week these days?

We were told he left the 3pm-4:30pm show on Radio 1 to become RTEs "senior wildlife executive director" however we never heard of any new work he did with this makey up title, indeed he's been drafted a few times as a fill-in presenter on Lyric FM in recent times, probably because he has little else to be doing.

One of the last of the staffers ( along with Blathnaid ni Cofaigh) - gets the same moolah no matter what his output is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,175 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 917 ✭✭✭amlinopta

At least they got a Stephen’s Day Mooney Goes Wild out of him. The cost of this lad’s hourly output based on his salary would make for interesting reading

I’m quite happy to pay the little fecker NOT to broadcast.

One of the two acolytes (one whom is infinitely politer than the other, under their varied sock puppets) will now chime in to remind us how great Del was/is.

Im afraid he wasn’t. I struggle to decide between himself and Arsey, as to who was worse. I actually think it was him rather than Porridge Man, at least Ray didn’t come with Braying Brenda and that absolute harridan Eanna.

    Spoke too soon there.

Today was her last appearance of the year.

She's done her bit over the season in fairness...by RTE standards that is.

Neil Doherty covering the 11.00-1.00 slot for the week, which Ronan would often have done. Ray Cuddihy on Late Date last night, has been shared out between a few of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,175 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Thats the point with the ‘so far’ P.

Lots more time to go ….Brenno Courtney on this morning interviewing all women……not one poor man if I recollect correctly.

Plenty of time to make a name for yourself while the ‘stars’ rest their weary bones down around Monkstown and Killiney

Neil Doherty on now, the off button going to get a dunt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,395 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

Courtney judging by the hour or so I heard was very 'woke' and seemed afraid to intervene when his guests just started waffling. Some comedian on and seemed like she was talking to herself.

Neil Doherty is an acquired taste - like listening to treacle! Is that how he is in real life or just his radio persona, tiresome after a short while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,199 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Tommy Mescal is busy, doing the news on radio and TV all week by the look of it.

To hear Neil go a show without an ABBA track and something from the soundtrack of a recent Hollywood musical would be RTÉ's version of Blooms crossing Dublin without passing a pub.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,395 ✭✭✭✭Furze99

The Boucher was on this morning and when yer man Doherty takes over, he says in all apparent sincerity that PBH would make a great DJ if wanted to move on from the current affairs stuff. You could almost hear Boucher saying in the background 'What a Twat'!! In fairness to Neil, he'd make a great target for the likes of Callan to take the piss out of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,175 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

What do guys like Doherty do for the rest of the year.

As bland as a Westmeath motorway.
