firestick with eir broadband

Can you use a firestick or similar device, with eir brodaband? If so do you get RTE bbc etc.? i saw someone saying they get pluto but i'm not sure is that just movies.

I have unlimited broadband package but i think there is still fair use so would tv go over fair use

Eir offer the Apple 4k TV streaming box as their streaming platform. You can add TV to your bundle for €9.99pm, and this inludes all the regular broadcast TV channels (RTE, BBC etc), your first Apple TV box and free Amazon Prime video streaming. You can add multiroom by buying or renting additional Apple TV boxes. If you buy your own boxes, you will only pay €9.99pm for multi-room multichannel TV in total, which is very competitive. Eir also offer an Android app , which mimics their Apple app - but you can only use the Android version for live TV if you subscribe to the Eir TV service. In addition to the Eir TV app for live TV channels, the Apple TV box runs all the usual streaming apps (Netflix, Disney, Amazon Prime, Youtube etc)

I don't want the eir package as I rarely watch TV. Hence will firestick work.

And isn't the 9.99 only for first 6 months

Yes of course it will work,But it does not have Rte player,you can sideload it though,for BBC and ITV players you would need a vpn and also change your amazon account to the UK,Channel 4 player worls fine without vpn.

Also I'm with eir and stream everything and have never hit any limit for usage.

Yes but only for occasional viewing. Don't want dish fta or eir .i may be moving in a few months

€9.99pm is for 24 months if you get Fibre-to-the-home. 12 months otherwise. I have renewed with Eir for several years, and they always renew at the €9.99 rate. You could get a free-to-air satellite/terrestrial TV boxes or TV with the combo tuners, but the convenience of the Apple TV box is having all the apps and broadcast channels on the same platform. I dont watch much TV either, but €9.99 seems reasonable.

Argos probably just took that from their UK site or from the packaging but BBC/ITV apps will be geo-blocked in the Amazon app store so you can't download them from there without a VPN and account adjustments

i only want to watch a bit of tv at christmas. I have an indoor antenna and saorview but it is blockd with new buildings now. hardly any signal

so anyway i can watch it for a couple of day firestick or others?

The Firestick will run fine as long as you have a connection consistently above 3Mbps.

You are better off getting a "Chromecast with Google TV" though. The Google store delivers direct in Ireland and it is down to 28.99 at the moment

I have both and they are very close but the Chromecast seems to be tailored better for an Irish audience.

RTE player works too without the need to sideload.

The UK TV Player Apps (ITV Player, BBC iPlayer) are free and will work on both but the apps themselves block non-UK users so you would need a VPN.

I discovered we have very good saorview now. Apparently it must have been trees they cut down during the year. i thought it was new housing blocking it

TV has not been on since last christmas so didn't know. Thanks for your help with this.

The Lie version doesn't include any TV controls (i.e. wont turn off/on TV or change volume etc)
