    Yeah locking down other sites was such a weird move when you think of the increased integration there are between social sites and twitter. Even here on boards, you paste a link and it executes some js to integrate twitter's UI right here. Even as a non twitter user (I have an account, but it has maybe 10 tweets and I don't really engage actively) you're forced to look at it. A savvy mind would look at the increased uptake of things like Mastodon and keep looking at ways to integrate twitter into these sites, keeping even the alt-twitters within orbit of its sphere of influence. It's one of many contributing factors to the failure to really leave twitter behind imo. So if you wanted to see twitter die you'd probably welcome the big outside-engagement 'wall' they seemed to try to build here

    Every decision appears to be made with full Streisand effect impact. Decisions that are within the owner's remit to make, its his platform, but they are stupendously dim and damaging decisions.

    From half of them it's just going to be more low value contributions like EDM (not the fun kind) and "you're just triggered, blah blah wokeness PC gone mad blah blah". There's playing devil's advocate (which imo is fine) but then there's also just singing from the same hymnbook in CA week after week

    It's also a complete misunderstanding of the how the "social" part of social media actually works.

    So someone with a big Youtube channel - MrBeast for example, might go on Twitter and post a clip from their latest offering on YT and say , come see my latest 1hr video about whatever.

    That generates views and clicks and Ad revenue for Twitter as followers share and comment about the tweet about the latest video.

    All that is now gone - So less views , less clicks and less revenue.

    All because of yet another petty childish over-reaction to something by Elon.

    What an absolute imbecile.

    Twitter on Sunday announced it would ban the “free promotion” of other social media services and suspend accounts encouraging users to move to a different platform.


    “We recognise that many of our users are active on other social media platforms,” Twitter Support said in a now-deleted tweet.

    “We will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter,” it added, citing a list of other services such as Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post accounts.


    Accounts that were created for the sole purpose of promoting other social media platforms will be removed, Twitter said.

    It added that accounts would be prohibited from sharing link aggregators such as Linktree and Lnk.bio.

    “We still allow cross-posting content from any social media platform.”

    How many walk-backs and climb-downs is that now?

    I'd rather unmoderated to overly moderated, yes.

    The whatsapp groups are great. People can post whatever they like. That's good for news and gossip. Not good for discussion though.

    For example over on r/ireland, I remember there was a video of a young black lad stabbing the **** out of another lad. Video got removed.

    But when it was a far left activist who was hit, then there was multiple videos and discussions around it.

    During the abortion referendum, when yanks commented against abortion, they were called astro turfers. But all the pro abortion yanks were welcomed.

    Few months ago, anyone wanting a cap on Ukrainian refugees was called a Putin apologist. Thankfully now that people are seeing the effects, they're now admitting these people were right and are turning around now.

    There must be serious pressure coming from Tesla board/investors. He's gone missing since this debacle started. The workload involved in being in charge of one of these companies would be off the charts, let alone 3 of them. Whatever your opinion of Tesla, it's outrageous the effect he is having on the company selling huge share volume to fund this mess.

    I think the ultimatum has been laid down to him that he can't run all companies competently. The pole give's him an out that was already planned.

    He’s got what? Less than 10% of Tesla? The shareholders should just oust him. The whole thing’s ridiculously damaging to the brand and to its value.

    I mean what does he bring to the brand? Chaos is hardly something desirable.

    I think that is absolutely on the cards in the near future.

    Tesla has lost $640B in value over the last 12 months which is over 50% and despite Musk trying to blame it all on the Federal reserve interest rate hikes , the collapse in the Telsa stock price has far far outpaced the general decline in the Stock market.

    In the last 6 Months the Nasdaq is down about 2% whereas Tesla is down 31% in the same time-frame.

    Either he starts to at least look like he's spending the majority of his time focused on Tesla or the stock-holders are absolutely going to kick him out.

    And that's where Musk's biggest lie will be fully exposed. His claims about social media, protecting free speech, and defending democracy through protecting Twitter as a public square.... it'll all become a fart in the wind when he chooses to protect his money instead. The Twitter poll was always going to result in a vote for him to step down as CEO, that much was clear after his previous poll with the loaded question about unsuspending journalists who dox his family's location went against him.

    To try and secure new funding for Twitter and try to stabilise the platform for advertisers, as well as trying to protect Tesla and go back to focusing on it to prevent shareholders ousting him, stepping down from being so involved with Twitter would be his best move even if he retains ownership. He will always value his wealth over everything else.

    Twitter will probably financially collapse and he’ll just blame poll, the Twitter community of users who voted and whoever is stupid enough to put themselves into the CEO position … and no doubt continue to berate the advertisers as biased, because they won’t touch it with a barge pole.

    He started the dumpster fire and will just away… It’ll cost him billions, but it’s all about ego and face.

    I still maintain we won't know the true change in Twitter's value & success until a couple of years pass; it's entirely possible Musk might step down, insert someone without a giant McCain oven chip on their shoulder & the new boss claw back some monetary purpose for the site.

    This online poll over Musk's status (JFC, 2022 everyone) was a surprise and if he's serious it reads like he wants an out via the convenience of letting "the people" decide.

    They say that they do but, as Musk as shown, what they really want is for "their side" to be free to say what they want while clamping down hard on the rights of the other side.

    It's analogous to football managers saying that all they want are consistent referees when what they really want are for the refs to not make 50/50 decisions that go against their teams (if they make them in favour of their team they won't be complaining about consistency then).

    15 hours without a tweet - for someone who tweets as frequently as him he's very likely explicitly trying to stay off the platform at this point. I can't see his resolve lasting too long. Apparently when Trump was kicked off the platform he was practically going through withdrawals from not getting his tweeting fix in.

    It was a FUBRA, the user had thousands of posts. The form was run from Australia, hosted in the US and the offender lived in the UK. What made it worse was the police did not want the posts deleted, as they were evidence. In the end, I believe the UK police called to his house and he got a warning.
