WTD: Aluminum Road bike

Recently bought a refurbished Wahoo kicker I hope to start using in January, at the moment I have a carbon fibre bike but I'm worried about ruining it with sweat so thought I would get a cheap aluminium bike for use inside.

I was thinking it might be nice to get a good aluminium frame and then upgrade the group set and drivetrain in the future and use it outside occasionally if needed in the rain.

I was thinking of a 10 speed that way it might be easier to upgrade in the future.

I'm hoping to spend no more than €750

Why would sweat ruin a CF bike? I wouldn't have thought sweat would affect any of the resins used in CF as all of them are used to make things that go in seawater, like racing yachts, sailboards, kyaks and so on.

If it is just for use indoors, I'd go even cheaper than 750 - look around for something like a Cube Attain that someone got on the B2W and decided they didn't like it. I'd suggest going for minimum 10-speed to help with trainer compatibility

I have a size 54 Trek 1.2 (blue) if that is of any interest. 2018 I think. I've owned it since new. Originally had 9 spd Sora which I changed to 10 spd 105. Mavic Aksium wheels. It was used primarily for commuting, but was well looked after, serviced and cleaned regularly. A bit of cable rub on the frame but other than that it is in good nick. €375

Sorry I should have included my height I am around 177 cm I currently ride a Canyon endurance in size small which I believe is a 52 or 53 frame size.

I've a Cube Attain SL Disc with Ultegra 6700 10 speed. Size 56 which should be perfect for 177cm. Good condition with new cables. Looking for €600.

I've a cinelli experience for about that. It's campag but you can use an 11 speed Shimano cassette no problem

I think they’ve a few B stocks of the 105 SL for 999 if you go through the sale section.

But I agree with the above, if it’s just going to be a turbo bike and the occasional bad weather steed, have a look on adverts for the btw crowd over the next few months, there’s a 54cm cannondale synapse 105 listed within your budget (although they’ve accepted another offer on it) https://www.adverts.ie/28889430 but just to give an idea of what you could get OP

A height of 177cm would typically be bang on for a size 56 Cube Attain so I'm wondering if a) your Endurace is definitely a Small and b) are you sure it's the correct size for you? I don't mean to give offence but someone of your height would usually not fit that small a frame!

Canyon and Cube are a both bit odd on the sizing though. I also have a 56cm Attain and it fits me perfectly, but I'd still be between small and medium in a Canyon. For 177cm I'd say 54cm, medium in most brands, but worth checking.

Canyon has a unique fitting system where the recommended size differs from frame to frame. Or at least that's what they say on their website.

Their system has been simplified since I bought my bike in 2018 before you had to fill out measurements such as the length of your arms and various other measurements. Now all you have to give them is your height and your inseam since using an automated bike fitting service where you take a video of yourself riding the bike on a trainer, I haven't had a problem with the fit and find it quite comfortable to ride inside and out, although the only issue I have is with the saddle being uncomfortable after a while on the bike.

I'm by no means an expert in bike geometry, but the two bikes don't seem to be miles apart in terms of stack or reach. It would appear that if I did have a problem be rectified by changing the stem or adding spacers.

Especially interested in the Ultrega as on my current bike. I had to swap out one of the chain rings and cranks to accommodate a spider-based power metre. I'm planning to sell the Canyon to my brother. He won't be needing a power metre, so be nice if I could swap the components from one bike to another, so I get to keep my power metre without having to worry about sourcing another chainring and cranks.

I don't have an Ad. up anywhere yet. It currently has the original 105 groupset but I'm planning on changing that for an Ultegra groupset I have on another bike. I'll get some pictures of the frameset and groupset and put them up. I have both a 50/34 and a 52/39 crankset in very good condition so you'd have a choice!

It's a nice modern frameset with internal cable routing, flat mount discs and 12mm thru-axles.
