Wokism is authoritarian. The centre right believe in personal freedoms they are anything but authoritarians. The left over the last few years have proven themselves to be militant authoritarians. Even your belittling of people with different viewpoints is authoritarian.

Queen Elizabeth would not stand for this - the Queen consort meeting publicly with ‘journalists’ who then produce one of the most hate filled, violence inducing articles I’ve read in the British press in modern times.

@CruelSummer The queen had to meet all sorts whether she liked it or not. She met Trump and you could probably infer from her demeanour that it was a tedious engagement for her, at best. She had to meet Putin, Xi Jinping, King Abdullah and Mugabe and likely many others who've done far worse to humans around the globe than write a hateful column. She herself as head of the armed forces didn't exactly have a squeaky clean image either.

And now the King and Queen Consort will have to meet everyone and anyone in a diplomatic capacity should it be required. They have to meet with journalists from the press rota, even the rags. It's literally their job and what they signed up for.

Why do people always find a way to blame a woman for the actions of a man though? Clarkson said what he said. It's on him. Just because he happened to be at a lunch, hosted by a posh shop with Camilla as the celebrity attraction that she probably had no say in attending or not and people are falling over themselves to assume that the Evil Stepmother enticed him to write what he did. Bollocks. He's a grown man well able to spew his own vitriol without any help from Camilla.

Out of all of those royals, she's one of the few you can point to and say she's never gone whining to the media even from way back in the 70s when she wasn't good enough for the Heir, right through to when she was getting pelted with food and subjected to abuse in the supermarket by the public through the 80s and 90s.

So I highly doubt she sat there bitching about Meghan to a journalist, she's not that stupid and it would be very out of character for her. If anything, she, as a spokesperson for VAWG and her work in that field probably found his article distateful as well. This is fully on Clarkson and he deserves everything he gets.

Some of you would fight with your toenails.

Not one person here has a background free from pain and if you think you don't then think a little more and you will find it. We don't handle ourselves maturely all of the time and without that pain getting in the way now and then. Harry and Meghan are making a hames of things due to their own issues and the world gets to look on.

My views are mixed because I don't think any of this is clearcut. How could it be when we are talking about people? I think it's all really sad and it could have been different because there are no bad guys in this.

It's family hurt and generational trauma being played out for the world to see. It's not about security or titles or money. It's about family. Longing, jealousy, resentment, hope, expectation, anger.

Meghan is someone who I would be wary of if she was in my life. I'd connect with her warmth which I think is genuine but there would be a hesitancy in me as well due to what I think is her ability to manipulate and a sense that she can be quick to cut you down or something a bit mean. There's a lot of her.

The press did treat her very badly and I don't think any of us truly know what it must be like to have that level of interest in your life and how you would handle it. Her father as well, I believe he acted as she described and I also found her points about the baby shower eye opening for me.

Her friends wanted to do something lovely for her. It is nobody's business how they (the friends) spend their money and yet the press were up in arms about Meghan. That kind of thing was highlighted for me the twisty ways of the tabloids.

Harry Gods love him but he would drive one to drink. There is so much anger and bitterness in him. I feel for him at the same time though, even if he is an eejit. I believe he was the one who wanted to move and in Meghan he found the perfect enabler.

I can imagine how infuriating he must have been at the Sandringham meeting. William probably fit to shake him. Of course Harry would have felt a rejection in that, a "how could you Wills". All emotion and no rationality.

William and him are very different. William is second in line to the throne and is very much part of its machinations. I've a feeling as well that his memories of Diana are somewhat different to his brother's. Harry needs therapy. His hatred of the press I get but they didn't cause the death of his mother and they didn't cause his wife to miscarry.

A person who is happy enough in their own skin and position in life will be unlikely to experience so many perceived slights against them. An outward appearance of confidence and worldliness can hide fragility. This is Harry and Meghan all over I think.

"Why won't you hug me back now I feel embarrassed" "Why won't you hug me back I want to be your friend" "Why are you dressed like that it makes me feel bad" "Why are you dressed like that I wish I had the confidence to be like you, easy in myself".....and on and on.

There is so much letting go that needs to be done and that doesn't mean minimising what you went through. I think things could be salvaged between them and the royals, their families.

Only if their was a willingness to do so of course, an attempt at rebuilding the relationships. In fact I think there is a a part of Harry who still wants this but the small boy lashes out and stamps his foot as he grapples with both frustration and longing.

One thing that I did find really strange was when the Queen so easily went along with her advisors when they said she was too busy so therefore couldn't see. Why is it so difficult to meet your Grandmother even if she is the monarch? Again with 'the institution'.... do these people have no autonomy of their own?

It's a bonkers way to live that's for sure but I do think it's sad how it came to this for them.

The hatred Meghan invokes in people is a strange one. The likes of Jeremy Clarkson or some posters here...what is it that causes such powerful responses? Maybe it's as simple as she happens to be very much in the public eye and very vocal about her experiences, so anyone doing the same would receive similar.

Certainly the public bashing of Harry's family is horrible. Maybe there is something else happening. Maybe we are uncomfortable when someone raises their heads above the status quo and dares to challenge so publicly 🤔

Or not. I don't know but it is fascinating.

St Camilla the great would never ever do a bad thing in her life. She just vilified Diana from behind the scenes and ruined any chance of that marriage even being bearable, all while she was married herself with her own children. The dishonesty of it all. Now Meghan on the other hand, existing and breathing and having the cheek to fall in love with and marry Harry is beyond contempt for such despicable actions.

Also if Camilla is so against violence against women, the palace should have issued a statement. A royal ‘expert/correspondent’ should have condemned the article as their indirect spokespeople - and we’ve absolutely nothing from them, pathetic.

I’m actually indifferent to Harry and Meghan and didn’t really care about them either way as the truth is usually in the middle of both sides claims. In this instance, there is clearly one side that is failing as an institution and as a family.

I hear this all the time : "woke extremists", "EU fanatics" etc, when the whole point of liberalism and centre ground politics is not to go out to the extremes and to try and reach compromise and consensus.

Extremists are usually only every drawn to the right and left (and invariably the far right and far left). But said extremists then try and turn everything on its head by claiming that liberals are bigots and intolerant and authoritarian and they (the far right, far left) are the real defenders of freedom of speech.

I remember watching the Bashir interview when it came out - in an English class, of all places, as I’m from the continent and took English in my studies. The lecturer was all aglow with the poor Diana spiel, and I just felt - God this was rehearsed to an inch of its life. You could see from a mile away how she was ready for every question, not missing a beat in answering promptly and very eloquently, with that famous self protective head tilt of hers, with those expressive eyes looking up in earnestness. I felt - this is so fake; but then I’m like that when someone is as gullible as that lecturer was, very annoying.

Poor Diana, indeed, but my take is different to what was discussed in class that day. She tried to play the PR game herself but what good did it all do her in the end. She was messed up by a bad childhood and so made the mistake of her life while still barely more than a naive kid. Ironically for being a Princess, I don’t think she was the type of person who would ever have got her happily ever after.

I don't think Camilla incited Jeremy to write that article, he has form. That said he is a friend of hers and obviously knows how she feels about Meghan, otherwise I think he might have reined it in a bit. A bit like how Laura Kuenssberg was quite soft when it came to Boris.
