Underfloor Heating Manifold

Hi

Below is a picture of my underfloor heating system for downstairs in our house, we have rads upstairs controlled separate.

When i turn the heating on, i believe that a red light should come on at yhe top for each room that is calling for heat as such.

My problem is that for some rooms the red light will come on, other rokms the red light will flash and other rooms the light wont come on at all. The rooms where no light comes on are not getting warm.

How do i find out if this is an electrical or plumbing issue? Is it possible that i need to bleed or balance the system? As a total novice, ive no idea how to do this for underfloor, i can do it with the rads upstairs.

Has anyone any suggestions as to what i need to do? Hope ive been clear enough, thanks.

Do the rooms with no heat have a thermostat on the wall? is it on and calling for heat? if yes then on the bottom manifold the white caps (actuators), if you can see the blue ring light up the valve is open and heat should flow if not you can pop them off and the valve will be open (bypassing thermostat + actuator) and you can then see if room heats up, if yes its not a plumbing problem and more to do with the thermostat or actuator

Yes each room has separate stats that I turned up to 24 to see would that give me a red light but no luck.

Thanks I'll try that with the actuator when I get home soon, thanks for the advice

This seems like an electrical issue

can you take the transparent covers off and post closer photos

Zone 2 is the only one showing on in your photo

can you post a photo of your thermostats also

some thermostats are battery operated so check that too

So I've taken off the actuators of the zones that are not given any red light and it made no difference, pic attached.

I've also attached images of the original stats we have and two digital stats we have also, thanks

Should the red valves on top be pointed a certain way?

The position of the gauge needle is much different in the pic above than the earlier pic. Can you explain this?

Also, one of the zones has a flashing red light, what does that mean?

It also looks like the switch wire on each zone of your controller is green/yellow (earth wire)

this is not permitted

it’s definitely an electrical issue.either the control circuit or controller itself

I've turned down the stats in all the rooms except for the one that flashes and now the power light to the far right is flashing too

Number the actuators? Because if you mix up 6 and 7 for example, you'll be troubleshooting the heating in zones 6 and 7 till kingdom come, obviously!

Most likely expansion vessel needs checking, or it's being constantly filled through the filling loop.

No actually it looks like it was flashing on that part as it was on timer for Two hours, went solid when I changed to constant but zone light stayed flashing

It's a problem but seeing as you have some pressure it's most likely not the cause of the problem you posted about. You need a plumber that's familiar with the wiring of actuators. He needs to be informed of the different readings on the gauges.

Just to confirm as eusap and others have already asked

with the actuators removed and your heating switched on

is there heating going through these zones. There should be a little pin visible that pops out. Compare this to a working zone adjacent

Hi,

So when I remove the actuator and turn on the heating, the red light for the zone does not come on. Should the light come on if the actuator is off? Can water flow through the zone if the light is off?

The pin is up, I can push it down but it bounces back up again

Don’t worry about the lights for the minute. With the actuator removed and at least one zone operational then hot water should flow through your system

Ok thanks with the actuator off the pipe connected to where the pin is is fairly cold but the pipe end connected to the same zone red valve about is hot.

Actually the pin on the left is stuck up and can't be pushed down where the one on the right can be pushed down. They are both for the same large kitchen area.

Just to play devils advocate

with your heating switched on

hold down the pin on the right for as long as you can and see if hot water travels through your corresponding (cold) pipe
