To all the boardsies, this is Welsh Megaman drinking all your Baileys, leaving a mess of your carpet and shiftily lurking at your soiree till you politely have to ask me to leave - wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! 😊

You knows the drill...if you see anything of interest on TV over the festive period that's not in the usual schedule (Christmas Specials, etc.), post 'em here!

    Onward! 😄

Detectorists Christmas special is on BBC2 (controversially not BBC4!) on Boxing Day \ Stephen's Day.

BBC are doing another Ghost Story for Christmas, MR James’ ‘Count Magnus’. Will be on BBC2 at 10pm on the 23rd.

Last years one, another James outing called ‘The Mezzotint’, was excellent so have high hopes for this one.

In a similar vein, BBC4 will be repeating Schalcken the Painter on Thursday 22nd:

Sheridan Le Fanu's eerie tale set in 17th-century Holland, starring Jeremy Clyde, Maurice Denham and Cheryl Kennedy. First shown in 1979.

They are repeats, but I'm enjoying the "What We Were Watching..." series on BBC4.

Grace Dent brings just the right amount of affection for the programmes coupled with tongue in cheek humour at their expense - in the Christmas 1979 episode especially.

    Tonight's episode is Christmas 1988.

Oh dear, the Die Hard heresy has spread to this thread :)

In tribute to the late, great Terry Hall (RIP), Sky Arts are showing The Specials set from the 2014 Isle Of Wight Festival tonight at 9pm.

Motherland Christmas 2022 festive episode airs on Friday 23rd December at 9.30pm on BBC One (rather than it's usual BBC Two slot) and will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer

The Father Ted Christmas episode is on RTÉ Two right now.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching it. It's my equivalent of going to Midnight Mass.

Imelda May and Friends on Sky Arts right now from the Pepper Cannister!

John Sheehan performing the ‘Marino Waltz’!!

The amount of Mrs Browns boys on every year is obscene....the prime time coverage it gets annually disgusts me....

Was very poor. Started well, then talk about an unnecessary turn with the grandmother.

Totally disagree I thought it was excellent as did anyone I have talked too.

Wow that Ms Browns Boys was the drizzling ****

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭lumphammer2

I cannot bare that rubbish known as Mrs Brown's Boys .... it is awful unprofessional repetitive drivel ... it must have been on every day this last week so far ... it disgusts me too how this talentless drivel can get so much prime time coverage for years ... happened to see 10 seconds on it earlier ... it has not improved only got worse over the years ... 12 years of it at this stage ... it is time to put her to bed once and for all ...

Not necessary for Christmas Day/Christmas special I didn't think. Julia trying to manage a house full of carnage on Christmas Day had plenty of room for comedy.

‘Britain’s Favourite Rock Hits’ on Channel 5 right now!

Amazingly and surprisingly, they have some decent talking heads on there, and not the usual TOWIE/Kerry Katona idiots.

^^^ Decent input from Bob Rock talking about ‘Enter Sandman’, although I’d like to hear from Kip Winger :D

    Evening, Lzzy Hale. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,438 ✭✭✭✭EmmetSpiceland

Yeah, I think 30 minutes was too short. It ticked all the boxes for a “Jamesian” story but it lacked the punch, maybe.

I enjoyed it well enough for what it was but the only real “scare” that came out of it was the brief glimpse at the body with the face removed.

There's usually a World Cup look back programme this time of year, but it only finished ten days ago.

I really like Frankie Boyle but the bits with the other comedians is never that funny imo. Worth it for his intro and closing bit though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74,322 ✭✭✭✭Welsh Megaman

    Agreed.

None of the other comedians have contributed anything remotely as funny as Frankie’s material. Just have him on his own.

Plus, as is tradition, Jools counts the seconds down to midnight before the Pipes and Drums of the 1st Battalion Scots Guards play viewers into 2023.

Amen to that. It’s awful and I wouldn’t go within a mile of it.If it was the only thing on I’d turn the telly off. How O’Carrroll is still getting away with it (or, indeed, how he ever did) is one of life’s great mysteries.

Lego Ninjago movie translated into Irish on TG4 now.

I love that idea, I'm guessing getting the green light to do it is a tedious process.

He’s getting away with it because there’s plenty that love it, apparently. Agree it is drivel.

Just flicked on RTE1. Have they rented out Jools Holland's usual studio? Or have they just completely ripped off the setup used for "Later... With Jools"? I'm guessing the latter.

If you have Tv5 Monde on VM or satellite it is already 2023!

    The fireworks were amazing.

And now there is some crazy dancing in Flash Gordon and Ninja outfits to a Depeche Mode backing track.

No idea what will happen next.

It is like the Eurovision of NYE shows.
