Most out of place/bizarre scene in a film

Bare with me on this one. Pub conversation the other night and one of the lads reckons the scene in Cabin Fever where the young one on the bench does some kung fu stuff is the most bizarrre out of place scene in a film. (he thought the writer/director was just having a laugh.

Do any films have such scenes? If so, what do you think was the purpose of the scene?

Maybe this one isnt along the same lines but here goes anyway. The film Heat. After Gringo killls the security guards, de niro and his cronies arrange to meet him in a diner so they can whack him. Watch the scene again in the diner. Tom Sizemore gets up out of his seat, stands up and sits back down again. Makes no sense! Its not the editing as it was deliberate - it was meant to happen. Any thoughts?

From my memory, that was because the guy they were going to whack had to sit on the inside?

Can't remember the first one, but the bit in Heat, I get the feeling it was to stop Gringo from going anywhere. DeNiro sits beside Gringo and Sizemore goes back to his seat. Of maybe it's just a section that was edited out

Scene in La Haine when before we meet Vinz it shows him doing a little Jewish jig:D

I guess it is supposed to be a dream but it is still weird.

Also every second scene in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Naked Lunch and Santa Sangre:eek:

Pulp Fiction "The Gimp" Scene, knocked me for six when Butch and Marsellus walking into the Hillbilly store, but it worked very well within the movie.

that weird scene in the Shining when it looks like some guy is going down on another guy dressed as a rabbit. Totally out of the blue and well creepy.

but seriously weird as Elijah Woods character explores the land of his ancestors, excellent supporting cast, its like Borat, but funnier and, yet, more serious, all at the same time.

Zatoichi dancing finale +1. But like most things by Takeshi Kitano, it is utterly brilliant at the same time.

The fight scene in Anchorman also springs to mind - "I killed a man with a trident!". Out of the blue and bizarre, but probably the funniest part of the film too (well, perhaps that dog off the bridge moment tops it).

I'm sure there's more - the perverted hotel scene in Garden State would also rank as bizarre and tonally odd - but those are the only ones popping to mind at the moment.

Completely outta left field, especially considering it's a Kevin Smith movie.

anyhow... he's the villian, and he's escaping through the sewers in a mini golf cart type of thing, when all of a sudden he stops, whips off his jacket, to reveal a well know premiership team jersey, and starts shouting ' Uuuniiiiteeeedd, Unnniiiiteeedd!! Then gets back on the golf cart to continue his escape...

It was the guy that said 'lucky bastard' that made it funny for me, thought that was hilarious.

I think a Python film without any pointless bizarre scenes would be considered strange.

I have never seen the whole film represented by the fifth clip in this video, but for a bizarre, seemingly out of place line, this is utterly brilliant. Even in the context of the 10 seconds that precede it in this clip, it is "WTF?".

Most of the buddy cop scenes from 'The Brave One' are completely out of sync mood wise with the rest of the movie.

They're funny and probably the most entertaining thing about that movie but look like the may have been from another, never made movie.

The original Last House On The Left has a subplot featuring an incompetent pair of cops whose patrol car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Their attempts to hitch a ride, to the accompaniment of "comical" country & Western music is like something out a Smokey And The Bandit type redneck comedy, and completely at odds with the rest of the film, which is a very disturbing depiction of the rape and murder of two teenage girls by a gang of psychopaths.

We Were Soldiers.

A very good movie but there's one point where the photographer solider has a full on scene of his own where he is dashing in front of the camera taking "pictures" as images are transparently overlaid. It's a strange scene as there's nothing else like it in the movie. No montages, no dream like things etc. Just did odd scene.

The interminable, gratuitous, 10-minute graphic sex scene in Blue is the Warmest Colour. It's such a sensitive film in most respects, so that scene is incredibly jarring.

Fair shout, but that entire movie is very reminiscent of weird dreams we are all capable of recollecting .... and I have often woken up in the midst of a nightmare after meeting that manckfest of a bogeyman... it does happen.

The long cutaway dance sequence with Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse in Singing in the Rain. Nothing to do with the film at all, seemingly just an add-in so Kelly could do some cool stuff he thought up. Totally takes me out of the movie every time cause it just goes on forever.

The shootout scene with Leo in Millers Crossing is bizarre. Brilliant, but bizarre. It goes from Prohibition-era, noir-ey double crossing gangster flick, turns into Terminator 2 for a couple of minutes, then back.

The French Plantation scene in Apocolypse Now. Seemed to be just randomly included, without adding anything to film.

Not that I enjopyed the movie anyway, but it made it even more dragged out and slow moving.

The whole end sequence from society 1988 still takes the cake for me... even though the whole movie is building to that climax your not expecting all that happens lol. I think all the effects were from Screaming Mad George who also worked on A nightmare on elm street 4 which has the most grotesque death in all the series.

There's no mirror - we come in over the shoulder of a body double mimicking Vincent Cassel's movements, and push in on Cassel who's standing on the other side of the sink in a doubled room. So we're seeing him for real, rather than his reflection. Simple, but works so so well!

There's a scene in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy in which Gary Oldman is trying on new glasses.

It doesn't seem to be relevant except that he finishes up with the same pair of glasses that Sir Alec Guinness wore in the TV adaptation.

It's highly relevant! One one level, it's a slightly jokey homage to Alec Guinness, whose portrayal of Smiley is generally regarded as masterful. But it's also very symbolic of the story as a whole, which is about spying; about Smiley as an observer; the difficulty of "seeing straight"; Smiley's "blind spot" caused by his feelings about his wife's affair with Bill Hayden. The schoolboy who is identified as a "good watcher" also sports a prominent pair of thick-rimmed spectacles; that's not a coincidence.

If I remember correctly, Smiley changes his spectacles after he has been retired by his bosses, and it is only then that he begins to understand what he has, up to that point, failed to see.
