Delighted for Haley to be hitting such great form at the perfect time, i.e., a year out from a RWC. He's surely in Faz's thoughts.

Hugo Keenan has the FB spot wrapped up, I can't see Farrell bringing two specialists FBs to the World Cup so Haley is probably going to lose out.

Has anyone who applied for 6 Nations tickets in the MRSC supporters lotto heard back if they were successful or not in getting tickets yet?

I'm pretty sure they said that you would only hear from them if you were successful.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,275 ✭✭✭✭phog

He claims it's a done deal but doesn't know to which team, surely he'd know to which team Ben is moving to if it was a done deal.

With Sexton retiring after the WC there's going to be a scramble to get a replacement and that could be of benefit to Ben if he stays in Ireland. I'm surprised the IRFU aren't trying harder to keep him.

Gav Coombes has put in some serious performances since being released back during the AI’s.

Yup but curious have they contacted people who were successful

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,275 ✭✭✭✭phog

The MRSC social media profile has been really poor this season. On topic, you'd think at the very least they'd have tweeted that emails have been sent to all successful lotto winners. It really isn't that hard a task.

What can the IRFU do if the player wants to go?

If he has international ambitions then it's not just a question of money. Munster didn't select him for a competitive game for a 2 month plus period at a crucial point of the season.

He played in the loss to Leinster on Oct 22 and then didn't play another competitive game for Munster till Jan 1st.

I'm not saying Munster weren't justified in the selection decisions they made over that period, but if you're looking to blame someone for why he is feeling he's got better prospects elsewhere then I can't see how it's the IRFU.

You're reading something into a post that's not there and this is not your first time. I've no idea what agenda you have.

You said: I'm surprised the IRFU aren't trying harder to keep him.

I directly addressed the point you mentioned, when I asked you: What can the IRFU do if the player wants to go? If he has international ambitions then it's not just a question of money.

I then pointed out what most would consider to be a very valid reason as to why the player might feel disaffected or why he might feel he'll have a better chance elsewhere.

This isn't an agenda ffs, and I'm kind of sick of pointing that out. You could try just one time engaging with the actual point instead of constantly claiming there are hidden agendas at play.

I have zero interest in engaging with anyone who have tried to put words into my mouth, not once, not twice but numerous times

You have a funny habit of having "zero interest in engaging" when you can't win an argument on its merits.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,275 ✭✭✭✭phog

You obviously want the last word on it - take it.

They could have had Healy on the emerging Ireland tour, or in the autumn International squad.

The word was that Ireland initially wanted Healy over Crowley for Emerging Ireland, and Munster preferred to keep Healy at the time.

There was absolutely zero basis for including him in the autumn international squad. He can't get into the Munster 23 at the moment, why should he be in an Ireland squad?

Any truth in Malcolm Marx moving to Munster

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,745 ✭✭✭irelandrover

Because they include development players in squads as well. And he can't get into a munster 23 but he could at the time the squads were picked. So the irfu were the first to back Crowley and discard Healy, munster followed suit yet you still lay the blame on Munster.

You asked what more the irfu could have done. I answered. They could also pay him more money for instance. You'll probably just say he isn't worth it.

We'll never know for sure as to who specifically nominated Crowley for Emerging Ireland over Healy, but it was suggested by numerous people at the time of the selection that the provinces had had input into certain key selections as to who they were keen to retain. Jackman namechecked Healy and Knox as two players Munster wanted to keep over Crowley and Salanoa at the time. I don't know if that's true or not, but it wouldn't be surprising as both players had largely been selected ahead of the other two up to that time.

He didn't deserve to be in the squad for the Autumn Internationals. Young guys have been there in the past as development players (largely to get used to camp, and hold tackle bags etc) but I don't think that would have changed his mind, in a situation where others were still getting gametime ahead of him.

Frawley & Crowley were justifiably backed ahead of him for the NZ A game.

On paying him more - he's not centrally contracted.

Maybe the IRFU could lighten the rules around allowing Connacht or Ulster to make an attractive offer to him if they chose to do so, but there's no guarantee he would take it if international rugby is his goal in the short to medium term.

Ultimately, if he's made a decision in recent weeks to go, then the most significant factor behind that is because he recognises he's clearly a distant third choice in the pecking order for Munster, and therefore even further back for Ireland.

    Squad Update

On the injury front, Kiran McDonald will go for a scan on an arm injury sustained against Ulster. His availability for the Lions game will be determined later in the week.

    From today's Squad Update

RG Snyman’s progression has seen him return to field-based rehabilitation and running. He remains unavailable for the upcoming games this month.

Jesus I hate that clickbate bullshit. It's been common knowledge for weeks that Snyman wasn't due back until sometime in February.

Blair also mentioned that he wants Ben as cover for the outhalf position during the RWC.

While the chance to turn out for Gregor Townsend’s side might be part of the appeal for Healy in making the short hop across the water, his initial role at Edinburgh would almost certainly be that of a back-up to Blair Kinghorn. Blair’s current recruitment plans for next season are based on the presumption that Kinghorn and a number of other senior Edinburgh players will be absent in the autumn on Rugby World Cup duty, and during that time Healy would likely be competing with Charlie Savala for the No 10 jersey.

“You need strength in depth in certain positions,” Blair added. “Your front rows, your 9s, 10s, you need to plan to have some depth. With it being World Cup year it takes more planning. We are aware Ben is available and he is someone who has been spoken to over the last couple of years with an offer from Glasgow.”

Yeah, I think this makes sense. No one was ever going to promise him a starting berth.

He'll be making the move likely too late to come into RWC reckoning, unless they decide to call him into some squads after he has committed to moving (the coming 6N).

That would unquestionably be controversial in Scotland.

I don't think any of us on here who've seen a fair bit of him would dispute that he has good potential and might already be a better 10 than Blair Kinghorn (or Ross Thompson), but it's likely he'll be expected to put together a better run of form to justify that sort of call up in Scotland.

The selection to face Lions will be fascinating.

8 day break before Northampton at home in Thomond Park so there is a bit of comfort in that, Munster can afford to go strong against Lions, and probably the way the table stands Munster have to go as strong as possible.
