Car damaged by speed bumps

I highly doubt it. I doubt too that just one speed bump damaged your cars suspension. Maybe it's just wear and tear and age if your car unless it is fairly new and recent. Then there is a fault with your car. I would be talking to who you bought it off and the manufacture in that case.

Besides them rules you quote could be old and since updated. 50km is only about 32mph.

There is a very tight specification for ramps on public roads in Ireland, I took a bumper off a car reversing out of a parking spot c 10 years ago, the ramp was surveyed and was found to be out of tolerance. They paid up with no quibble.

OK, no comment on legislation, I am speaking of the construction specification, max % slope on the front of the ramp, length and height of the tabletop and the % backslope. Signage distance to bends etc. When I had my issue the ramp was found non compliant with published specifications.

Why would anyone drive over a speed bump at 40km ?

I have always understood that creation of hazards in the highway carried a strict liability in the event that the hazard was the proximate cause of damage.

Driving over a speed bump at 40, in all honesty, you should expect to damage your suspension.

There's a few around here that are a genuine challenge for anything not a SUV or better.

Yes the original intention of any speed bump is to enforce speed restrictions. They have gotten ridiculous now the speed you have to over them. On the main road infinity of my house there’s 14! Less than every 100m on a main road it’s ridiculous having to slow down to 20 kmh every time

the ramps were there long before my estate was built. It used to be the edge of suburbia and young lads would fly up it but it’s now the middle of suburbia so they’ve shifted elsewhere.

I'd say you should do the same as the OP is doing and go over the ramps at "around 40 ", sock it to the man so to speak.

I drive over these speed bumps 4 times a day at least 5 days a week

They are well sign posted and marked with reflective markers & construction sign, cones.

Going 40km over them is purely your own fault and way too fast. There is also road narrowing too & large motorway style signs warning motorists to slow down.

Maybe he can drive backwards onto the ramp at 40kmh and undo the damage, using that logic ☺️

I never said it kept them away, I said the construction of multiple estates along the road moved them on because its no longer a quiet country road its now heavily trafficked. I don't believe they are needed any more as a result. The lads who they were intended for originally intended for probably didn't give two hoots about what speed they hit them at because the cars were most likely not their own back then.

Presumably the OP didn't see them? Others here are saying they are well lit and signed I think.

Whatever about these, I have grave doubts over many speed bumps approaching rural villages that are poorly lit and/or signposted. If you're not familiar with the area, they are often very difficult to see in the dark. It's amazing how county councils can install hazards like this on public roads and get away with the consequences. At the very least, they need to be lit with suitable warning lights, painted and signposted clearly in advance preferably by lit signage. This is all expensive to install and maintain. So they might paint white markings on them when installing but after a year or so, these become faded and worn.

You've confirmed an idea I've had for a long time, that they should add an IQ exam to the driving test.

Are you able to provide evidence that your were "going about 40"?

Screw those people. They can wait.

And they should be called anti speed bumps ☺️
