Red water tick travel on cows

We bought in some cows where we were told after they had red water. We had no red water for years. We have had three cases now in the last 18 months. Could those cows brought in the red water tick.

The saying “if it can happen, it will happen” comes to mind. It’s possible the bought in cows brought ticks with them, who knows. Were the cows that got redwater on your farm bought in or homebred?

They won't bring in the tick, but might be hosting the babesia parasite, which is transmitted by any ticks that suck their blood.

Know a man that never had red water, fenced off section of land for reps, cattle grazing fields next to it started getting red water.

I would have thought it very unusual for homebred stock to get redwater if they were grazed on the same ground as calves.

I have an out farm with some very rough ground, whins , briars, rushes, ferns etc, if I bring cattle from the home farm and put them there they’re guaranteed to get redwater but the cattle that are there as calves have never got it.

I think what may have happened is farm seems to have had redwater years ago, but none lately until these bought in cattle arrived. Maybe farm tidied up , paddocked etc, so young homebred cattle not immune now??? Bit similar here where home place tidied up but now have to watch yearlings on outfarm. Now its possible if farm used get redwater years ago maybe neighbours still do and ticks came from this source
