CRT TV Repair - Anywhere in Ireland?

Hi all, I recently picked up a 14" Sony Trinitron television that works perfectly besides one small issue. The image looks slightly slanted which is only apparent when a grid is shown on the screen (e.g. with 240p test suite). I have tried to address it within the service menu but from reading up about it, the TV probably needs to be opened for some minor adjustment to be made from the inside.

Is there anyone within Ireland that still does CRT TV repairs/servicing? I know this is a total longshot as most companies I've rang say they no longer offer such support.

I'm willing to try anywhere in the country to find someone that is comfortable with taking a look at the TV.

Sorry, can't help but I would think that it would be almost as cheap to buy a new one which would have a 2 year warranty.

Sadly it's impossible to buy a brand new CRT TV nowadays. I bought it for my retro gaming setup.

Agreed. Labour cost would probably be more than a modern replacement.

Not worried about the cost to be honest. Just want to get the TV serviced and back to perfect working order if possible.

Perhaps you could try a ham radio club. An enthusiast might take it on as a project or point you in the right direction.

You could go on to one of the Irish retro arcade groups on facebook, or even look at one of the sellers on Adverts.ie that are into dealing old arcade machines, and they might be able to repair or at least offer you information on where you could find someone to repair it.

I'm sure it's possible, you just have to find the right person.

Yeah, they don't offer CRT TV repair anymore. Basically told me to accept the issue I have with my TV as no one will touch it nowadays.

Be exceptionally careful working inside the chassis of a CRT. Bleeder resistor is not guaranteed to actually work, if the CRT has one (that era should)

Hi if you open the tv be very careful, keep away from the final anode on the crt, this will probably be covered by a large rubber boot on the side of the crt about 1.5 inches in diameter, there will be a single cable passing through this boot and connected to the crt, even with the tv unplugged for hours this connection can store a very high voltage as internally the crt can act like a very large capacitor, you could get a very nasty rap from it,

checking the position of the scan coils is a good idea as they may have moved if the tv got a knock but be careful.

Would you mind sending me on that guys details thats in Castlebar too? Have ran into some CRT TV problems myself in the last week and its like trying to find needle in a haystack finding someone to fix them, just don't know enough about the ins and outs of them to fix them myself.

I have a Samsung HD-CRT that could absolutely do with a servicing/repair. Would massively appreciate the details of the Castlebar fella if he's still doing it. I'm nowhere near brave enough to open it up and fiddle with it myself.
