Car suggestions?

I currently drive an 08 mrk 5 Golf 1.4 comfortline. It's not the fastest car in the World but it does its does it job. I do hope to get a little while longer out of it until something major goes. Milage is currently 256KM.

I've my license a few months and I'm 30.

Insurance wasn't terrible for me with the Golf.

I don't have children and it won't be changing/ I rarely have a car load of people.

I don't need to impress friends but don't want to look like granddad either.

I do like being able to carry something large home from the shops by folding down the rear seats but realistically It's not a deal breaker.

My parents are farmers(Hobby) Occasionally they might use it. However it isn't a massive issue.(They managed with a 1.0 3 door car for years.)

Preferably a hatchback with cruise control, parking sensors, easy to park, 5 doors. However I don't want it to be to slow or to nippy.

I'd like a colour that might stand out. No blacks, browns, etc (Not a deal breaker tough.)

Open to both manual or automatic.

I don't do a lot of milage might do the odd long drive or spur of a moment one.

Probably Petrol with my milage. Maybe Diesel but wouldn't be doing enough driving. Don't really want Electric but it wouldn't be possible with my budget.

Budget is around €15 with a loan. I could go a little higher if needs be but I'd happily spend less.

When I do change I want something that I'll get a good while out of.

I'm open to lots of cars.

Would I notice a step down switching to 1.0 Clio, etc or larger Golf, i30, etc?

Any suggestions?

You could get a 2014 to 2016 Golf within your budget. Lots to chose from.

Thanks, I was looking at them. I'm fairly happy with the Golf sizing.

Has anybody any experience with seizing from a Golf to a Polo or Clio?

I had a Golf and drove a Polo. The polo felt a lot smaller and less comfortable, particularly on a long drive.

I was sort of expecting that. I was wondering would newer once's be improved.

I did do a few lessons in a 1.0 Leon and I found it a lot nippier and lighter than my car and didn't enjoy it but I was really inexperienced then.

I've a fair bit of interest in cars but when it comes to buying one.

I can't make up my mind when it comes to buying one.

If you changed to a facelift Polo from 2015 onwards it should be okay.

Seat Leon would be similar to mk7 Golf.

That Polo is a 65bhp (non turbo) version, so it won’t be nippy like the Leon was, it will be similar enough to your own car in terms of power.

You could pick up a 2021 Dacia Sandero 1 litre turbo for your budget. Stretch the budget a bit more and you can bag a brand new one.

I know badge snobs dislike Dacia but that MKIII Sandero that came out in 2021 is a very good car. It also won small car of the year in Ireland in either 2021 or 22. And it's not actually small either inside or outside even though it won that bracket. Yes it's no saloon but it's not small like a old fiesta or such.

I have looked at Dacia's in the past. Well at the ploughing in 2019. I wouldn't be a badge snob. I did find them sort cheap inside. The latest one looked great tough but as you said they seem to get a hard time off people but I would consider one. Only downside is they did poor enough in NCAP.(However I know this is due to stricter markings.)

Cheers, I think I maybe over thing the nippyness of the Leon. I was use to driving my Golf and then drove the Leon in a few lessons when I was very inexperienced. So, maybe now I might be open it.

Later, I have driven the parents 316d which I found fine. Just a massive front end.

Only downside is they did poor enough in NCAP.

That's only because they do not have a lot of the aids the more expensive cars do with their extra computer chips.

As I said the 2021 model and up is the mkIII and way better than the previous model(mkII).

Yes, I think this also. If you tested a lot of the mid 2000's cars which got 5 stars. They'd get Zero at Todays standards.

I wouldn't rule it out. What do you think of the Stepway?

Life’s too short to drive a miserable base spec model. There are some nicer specced Polos out there, treat yourself.
