Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Another oddball Citroen that nobody will buy here.

    Large. French. Weird. Expensive

    I don't dislike it, but it's salesproof.

The French ambassador over here will be the only person in Ireland to sit in one.

Dark images, dark colours, lots of shading and shadows and photos from a distance. It's almost like Citroen know something but want to hide it.

    No that's old school technology.

They have not listed all the engines yet but it looks to be just petrol and PHEV only so far.

Is this a return to proper hydropneumatic suspension? If so, I'm in.

Not sure if autocar saying "hydraulic cushion suspension" is the usual not calling it the right thing or its what Citroen are calling it and it's just some spring set up with a fluid filled top mount or something.

Saying Citroen are "trying to replicate the magic carpet ride " doesn't inspire confidence that it's the real thing.

Do you mean a return to incredibly expensive repairs?
This car is sure to have the highest depreciation in its segment.

I never found it expensive at all.

Its a fairly simple system of a reservoir and a pump. In the length of time most own their cars I'd say if they'd to replace a couple of spheres that's about it.

I looked after my own though so it only cost me the price of any parts I changed. Any decent Citroen mechanic would have things changed for no more expensive , time wise, than a sprung car.

Why is the rear reg plate not centred, it’s all I can see.

Whatever it is, they seem to have eyeballed the number plate off it.

Really like the new Citroen range like the C3, C5 Cross but I can't see where the sales would be for this given where the market is (SUV Crossovers).

That rear end is awful. Would look better if the pillars flared out into the body. Looks a bit bulbous.

The "Citroen" badge appears off centre too with the chevrons

I think it’s more that the letter I is narrower, they’ve spaced the letters evenly from their edges - so the R isn’t in the middle. Looks sloppy.

Also funny that the name is so similar to the Mazda CX-5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,115 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

looking at my Picasso out the window, the "Citroën" lettering is much more compressed and it looks better IMO (though just the chevrons without the name would be better still).

The old C5 and C6 sold poorly, that was before everyone went SUV crazy.

Not at all. It is the Citroen C5X. How would you mix that up with CX-5? Also no stroke in the Citroen C5X badging. If that was there ok maybe.

It's on the Citroen Ireland (Citroen.ie) today, "The C5 X will go on sale in Ireland in early 2022 in time for the 221 registration period." so I guess it's planned for this market too.

    https://www.citroen.ie/about-citroen/news/citroen-unveil-all-new-flagship-c5-x-model.html

I know the C6 didn't sell well, I've only ever seen a few C6's here, I actually saw one (2006) in Ballymount industrial estate late last year, but I thought the C5 did okay, there's still plenty of them around.

This new C5 X is a big car, comparing it to other Citroens of similar sizes, (see below) wheelbase is a little shorter (29mm) then the last Citroen C5, but it's longer (27mm) than it, which is reflected in the boot capacity.

BMW have a habit leveraging Mazda monikers, BMW 323i how are you!

Fun fact (or possibly urban legend)... The Porsche 911 was originally intended to be the Porsche 901 but Peugeot intervened and claimed ownership of the X0Y naming convention.

As to the C5 X, I like it but am unlikely to ever own one with the UK import market dead and they'll sell SFA new here. Not having someone else suck up the first 3 years of depreciation would be a deal breaker for me.

Surprised it wasn’t badged as a DS. If they want to condemn it to failure altogether.

I thought DS showed promise- French style and sophistication in a car. The DS7 suv even looked an attractive price. But they seemed to not take off (I guess most will say shock horror there, but that is a very attractive car).
There’s so many brands in the new Fiat-PSA group it’s hard to see where it lies- probably money better spent on the Peugeot brand to finally bring it up on a par with VW and make more money that way

The problem with DS here, is there's no real dealers here yet or even a website! DS Automobiles was setup as a standalone brand in 2015. The DS website (www.dsautomobiles.ie) was setup here in mid 2016, but it was a disaster, the configurator would screw up the options as you built a car. We will see how Gowan deals with this over the next few years. Citroen in Airside was really the DS home, but they need to get DS as a brand away from the Citroen brand and what I mean by that is, when you search for DS cars on car websites, the websites are still listing newer DS's as Citroens, this is not just here, but also in the NI and in the UK. DS / Citroen should have educated there dealers to stop referring to the DS branded cars as Citroens. The DS name is also problematic as they have launched a new car last year called the 9, and if you google DS 9 google confuses the search with Deep Space 9  :o

So the new Citroen C5X has competition in this new segment with the Ford Evos or maybe Ford will call it a Mondeo!

I actually really like it and Citroën lately is the only manufacturer that makes unique looking cars, not just same old style, but with different badge. I am quite a fan of C5 Aircross and when you see it in wild, it really pops out.

    The biggest issue will be:

Price, when it comes to Ireland
General public here, who just don't like citroen.

Combine those two and its pretty much dead, before it even arrives to showroom. Buying it new will mean you have to marry it, because after few years it will have no value at all. If you want to buy one second hand for cheaper, you won't be able, because no one bought it in the first place.

All in all, I really like it, but it already failed in Ireland, because people here will go for old reliable Octavia, passat or "insert any kind of cross over".

That's quite nice. Does not even look like a Ford although I can't say I like that dash or should it be screen. Not much of a dash. Prefer the inside of the Citroen.

Not if there is none sold you won't lol.

I would say if heated seats were standard or even on option Citroen might sell some but as it is that alone might put some people if it. They would make a great taxi do they really are huge.

This will probably be the very last big Citroen. It's strange where Citroen are at the moment with this Huge big classy car and then at the bottom of the Citroen range the Ami. That is probably where Citroen are heading though to making more affordable innovative cars like the Ami and the recent Oli concept.

No problem selling big cars, just stick 20+ inch wheels and some chunky plastic cladding on it and call it an SUV

If its too big for you the C4 is there too and the new C4-X is due out soon too. Its a booted version of the C4 which is nice to see. I think Citroen could steel some sales from Renault and others who no longer have a saloon in there range any more.

It’s just bad design to have such a clumsy massive camera and then also have it offset.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,432 ✭✭✭funkey_monkey

Looks more like an afterthought than design.

Very disappointing as we've always had Citroens in the family - the BX was a super car. Had a Xantia too - and although it had the hydropneumatic suspension the car overall felt softer than the BX. Next was a Xsara with the steel suspension. It was bland to look at, bland inside and the suspension was akin to a Massey Ferguson.

Supposedly this new suspension setup is meant to be really good, but the car itself just doesn't appeal.

Is the new saloon car coming or what has happened to it?

That's what I thought, but it says:

The saloon will sit on the same EMP2 platform as its sibling models, the Peugeot 508 and new DS 9. Like those models, it will be offered with regular combustion engines and a plug-in hybrid powertrain that can yield more than 39 miles of electric-only range.

  • Registered Users Posts: 841 ✭✭✭GeneHunt

I can't see Citroen doing another big saloon, the C5 X is it if you ask me. Hadn't Citroen described the C5 X as a cross between a saloon and a SUV? Stellantis is going that way with it's brands at the moment, Peugeot has the 408, and rumour is the next Opel Insignia is going to be C5 X / 408 spinoff too
