    Father is renewing driving licence

    He has a C1 and C1e as he got them before they needed a test. They seem to only be renewable for 5 years at a time

    His only concern is he pulls a digger with tractor. Would this be covered under W or he safer keeping this extra categories on licence?

    Always keep the extra category, once you leave them off he might never get them back.

    C1 is for a light truck, up to 7.5 tonne all in. C1E means he can tow a trailer with it, up to a certain weight.

    It's correct that it has to be renewed every five years. He will also need a medical cert from the doctor to renew it.

    It will be of no use at all for pulling a digger on the tractor. In fact, the tractor and digger probably weigh a lot more than a C1E allows him to drive.

    Okay. So no use in having those categories so. He doesn't drive a light truck or trailer or never will going forward.

    Only concern really was about losing categories from licence but if never using it, probably no point

    Only thing he uses is jeep and trailer (keeping BE) and pulling digger with tractor occasionally

    BE covers the jeep and trailer. W covers all tractor work.

    Another option would be to leave it there, and just let it run out after the 5 years are up. The car/jeep part of the licence will still be valid for 10 years. But, as I said, he'll need a medical cert for the C1.

    Yeah the medical cert was rhe thing putting him off. Not that ther would be any issue. It wad just the hassle of getting it for categories he never will use

    Be no harm to have a reason to do a check up every 5 years.

    Always overlooked.
