The Iranian Far Right ... out of control?

Today saw the execution by hanging of Alireza Akbari ... a former minister in a former centrist Iranian government ... the current far right Iranian regime appears to be out of control killing anyone it sees as enemies ... as if they are the Republic of Gilead from the Handmaid's Tale ... to quote one of our own far right ... Gemma O'Doherty ... the Iranian far right are out of control ...

It is unclear who leads them ... my guess is elderly leader Ali Khamenei's devious son who has taken over the role of leader unofficially in recent years ... but they are destroying Iran and are not listening to the people ... by killing an opposition politician and by saying he was a 'British spy' is not going to sit well with more moderate leaders in Iran such as Khatami or Rouhani is it? ... not to mention a people who are infuriated with the new regime's desire to roll back any freedoms won during periods of more moderate rule ... all in the name of state voodooism imposed on the poor while families like the Khameneis live it up in their fancy palaces with their wine ... The far right have not done anything positive for the people and have made their lives more miserable since they stole power back in 2021 ... and it looks like this event yesterday of killing this guy will only tip things in favour of yet another Middle Eastern civil war ...

It was Trump and his sanctions madness that lead to this ... and the same old same old vested interests in keeping bigots in power for a time so as to be able to go to war with them later seems to be playing out yet again like always ...

Another war is the last thing the world needs ... but this far right regime in Iran clearly wants one, against more moderate elements within its own regime ... if Korea and Vietnam are anything to go by expect the US/UK/etc and Russia/etc to pick a side ... moderate Tehran Iran (Republic of Iran) v hardline far right Mashhad Iran (Islamic Republic of Iran) to follow ... Iran's answer to Korea .... Tehran and oil v Mashhad and poverty ... but with war ... so latter worse than North Korea by a mile ...

I seem to have deleted my first reply when trying to delete the duplicate posts.

    In summary

US and UK formented a coup against the democratically elected government in 1953. And the presence of oil kept the US opposing any democratic progress in Iran. The Iranians were cursed with having black gold under their ground, a substance with which the US State department is obsessed.

Even now, itis not clear that the west are willing to support democratic opponents to the Ayatollahs

This is a thread initiated by US civil servants who don't like any other culture on the planet having any influence over anything except their own culture... which they would prefer that everyone on the planet adheres to and cooperates with and lets do whatever it wants to do... or else.

The US has been looking for a reasonable excuse to gain regime influence in Iran since the overturn of the Shah, it looks like the citizens of Iran are not biting.

I would love to visit Iran, it looks A Maze Zeen. But regrettably all I ever hear about Iran is that it is an axis of evil, sexist, it rapes women, they don't tolerate homosexuality, it is run by religious fanatics, they are crap at soccer... etc.

Has the US ever aplogised for the genocide they inflicted in Vietnam, Central America or more recently Iraq? I never felt like they were there freeing up the pink dollar either, just my thoughts.

I spent the entire week following the tragedy unfolding in Port Au Prince which is now entirely controlled by two combatting narcotics gangs and administered politically by unelected officials, right under the noses of the US government who have observed Cholera and starvation escalate throughout western Dominica/ Haiti for the last 10 years, shrugging their shoulders intensely whilst high fiving touchdowns rerun on the big screen.

It is a shame that the US Hawks are more concerned with invading Iran than they are in saving millions of people suffering malnutrition 200 miles off the coast of Florida. I repeat , it is a shame. Over.

The Eu need to step up here and promote the interests of the Iranian people. It could start by supporting those Iranians who are striving for democracy and an end to the current Theocracy .

Instead, by and large, it has left global political lead to UK and US. Even when individual EU countries do step up they tend do just re-iterate their own previous colonial ambitions.

Without some indication of support from the west, suppression will defeat even the most selfless protesters.

I don't think our minister for foreign affairs, Coveney, made any criticism of Iran at the security council when he had a chance. Our current minister is unlikely to be any better

I am the OP of this thread ... am not a US civil servant ... and oppose what that country has done in Iran ... The US propped up the Shah for years even with a coup ... then when the Shah was becoming too independent they abandoned him ...

Now let us not be under the illusion the current regime in Iran is of benefit to Iran ... it is not ... it keeps Iran poor and the regime lacks invention ... the regime benefits the US and the US did all it could to make that revolution 'Islamic' rather than 'communist' .... the Ayatollahs went on to execute all Iran's commies ...

The Khatami and Rouhani govts in Iran were getting too independent too ... opening up Iran ... the US put the sanctions on those govts ... Iran then got hardliners with no brains instead ... again exactly what benefits US ...

The Iranian people want this current regime gone ... but they don't want this regime or any other US controlled regime ... the Iranian people full well know the US is not serious about regime change ... the US is getting exactly what it wants from this regime ... keep Iran poor ...

The US may or may not go to war with Iran ... the US has a habit of creating regimes ... the Taliban is another example ... and Saddam ... and then going to war when they don't go to plan ... 'Islamic terrorism' is an American product made for the cold war ...

Iran deserves democracy ... not the current regime or not some new Shah or some military junta ... it deserves freedom and prosperity ... the US will not allow this ... Iran has the potential to become a superpower in its own right if it was governed by an intelligent regime ... the Islamic Republic of Khamenei will do the US just fine ... keeps Iran poor and out of its true potential status ... exactly what the US wants ...

Exactly ... Mossadegh was the PM in the early 1950s ... wanted to distribute wealth and keep the oil money for Iran ... that did not suit the US, UK or their BP masters ... so the Shah was cemented into complete power in a coup ...

When the Shah began to try and make Iran more independent the same happened ... the US withdrew complete support and the leader in waiting was in France ... he then comes to Iran and sets up the current system ... Khomeini was his name ...

The US could easily have wiped this regime off the face of the earth back in the early 1980s ... they had the excuse with that hostage thing ... but it was all most likely a smokescreen and the US wanted this regime in because it was backwards ... the US was only interested in democracy in countries they could control not in a potential superpower like Iran ...

Iran had more moderate governments in the 1990s and 2000s along with the period 2013-21 ... but were they supported? No ... they were labelled Axis of 'Evil' and sanctioned ... why? Because Khatami and Rouhani were more intelligent and could make Iran richer .. so the American Republicans incl the notorious Trump backed the less intelligent riff raff in Iran and here we are in 2023 with a dimwitted far right Iranian regime running a great country into the ground ... the Americans and the Russians too are breathing sighs of relief that no emergent superpower rival ... another China ... is going to come along in the Persian lands any time soon ....
