Taxsaver Leap Card - no ticket barrier/validators

I’ve signed up for my first annual ticket which will be issued on a Leap Card. The only issue is my ticket is for Limerick-Ennis and neither station has ticket barriers/validators.

Anyone else use a Leap Card from a station without barriers? How will staff know what ticket is on my Leap Card? Anytime I take the train I don’t see any of the IÉ staff with handheld scanners/card readers?

It's an annual ticket. Just show it to staff if you are asked.

At Limerick and Ennis you need to show tickets to a member of staff to gain access to platforms so just wondering how they’ll know if there’s an annual ticket on it and I’m not just bluffing with a card that has 75c on it.

Back with an update. Turns out they don’t have scanners and staff were completely unaware of annual tickets loaded onto leap cards. This resulted in me looking like a chancer trying to access the platform. One guy tried to make buy a ticket as "you can't use your leap card on these trains". Tbf, he wasn't to know. After explaining myself, some staff are aware of the situation but it kinda feels like there's an element of trust/taking my word that there is a ticket on this green plastic card.

A bit shortsighted of Irish Rail to be issuing tickets this way and leaving their staff/customers in the lurch.

I was in the same boat as you. That little ipad thing the ticket inspector has can scan the cards. I had to get 3 weeks worth of tickets refunded.

The card should open the gate . If there is a manned gate without the option of ragging on at it then just show your card and tell them it's an annual one. Your picture would be on it and they should use a bit of common sense.

A national transport company failing to make its ticket-checking staff aware of all the forms in which a valid ticket may be held and equipping them to check all such forms.

Basic stuff.
