Does anyone know if Argos honour the price of an item when you reserved it. Something I had to order in has now gone up in price and I'm wondering will I bother going to collect it if they won't give it to me at the lower price.

What happened Argos? Used to be great , but nothing is ever in stock anymore. 3 things I put in today and nothing.

That's not necessarily true and in any event there's no way to back up such comments. I shop in a Argos store just over the border in NI and you would be surprised at the number of items that are unavailable there at times so stores in all countries are experiencing issues with stock levels.

Used to work in Argos .

Brexit definitely changed the company's outlook both here and mainland UK

There was plans for investment in stores and delivery options. That was all put on hold (this may have changed since I left )

Stock issues have hurt them as well as Amazon expanding more in ROI .

With no Sainsbury presence in ROI it doesn't make the outlook look good for future Argos in ROI.

It's never nice for any stores to close, so I don't want this to come across as Argos deserves to close etc.. , or to come across as flippant about someone's job

I know different markets and so on but the Price differs so much between UK And Ireland. And not just euro/sterling exchange but the % reductions on sale items too :/

Anyone know if Argos are in any cashback or discount schemes? They're not on Revlout cashback but wondering if they have a scheme elsewhere?

the irish operation is barely ticking over i'd say so I doubt that they have the foresight and ability to sign up to something like this ...

This laptop was posted in the no chat thread by @moonboy52

    Buy Acer TravelMate P2 14in i5 8GB 256GB Laptop at Argos.ie- Your Online Shop for .

Picked one up this morning and have to say I'm very impressed for the price. specs and build quality are excellent.

I bought that one (the Acer P2) on Wednesday.

Very, very decent for the price (€420)

Happily running Windows and Fedora on it

    You are most welcome:)

The thing that has me tempted (ordered for pickup on Wednesday) is the upgradability of the machine.

Many laptops have soldered RAM and no space for another SSD.

Yes, the bezels are pretty big (the bottom one especially), the screen is not the brightest and it is made out of plastic :P

But everything else seems very decent, with a stick of 8GB Crucial RAM on Amazon being 22e, 16GB in total on the cheap

It even comes with a ribbon cable for adding the SSD

Thanks, I just reserved one - needed an upgrade and it can’t be any worse than the last one which cost twice as much

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,457 ✭✭✭Danick

It looks like I can upgrade the ram to 16gb - can I upgrade the internal SSD - I presume its a Nvme M.2 and is there space to add anohter SSD and if so is the space for a 2.5 drive or M.2?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,196 ✭✭✭moonboy52

    Not bought it yet.

From what i understand, the internal is a Gen 3 2280 and can be upgraded.

The spare drive slot is for a mechanical or a 7mm SSD.

Seemingly it comes with a ribbon cable to add the SSD (maybe someone who has bought it, can confirm it comes with the cable)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,838 ✭✭✭DopeTech

Yes ribbon and casing for internal 2.5" SSD is inside the box.

    Many thanks for confirming @DopeTech

This - WD BLUE SN570 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 NVMe  is on offer on Amazon UK for 63 (1 or 2 months wait-time though)

I think it is compatible, not sure though

Thanks a million guys - this looks perfect to run as a plex server. I'm going to upgrade to 1TB M.2 and add another 2TB SSD - what do you guys think? Will it run plex smoothly do ye think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,196 ✭✭✭moonboy52

A very capable plex sever i would imagine.

The CPU has a passmark score of 10,000

Axxording to Reddit, the Intel iris Xe GPU can do hardware transcoding - not 100% sure though and may want to confirm that it can https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/v6ioas/state_of_hw_transcoding_on_iris_xe_nuc_11/

    Well that's crap news

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,838 ✭✭✭DopeTech

Sad to see it could not be incorporated into another store like Tesco or similar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,592 ✭✭✭archfi

I really expected that to be honest.

    Sorry for the employees.

Luckily I snagged a very decent laptop there only last week but on previous visits to several stores they had very little in stock (that I wanted anyway)

    Yep not unexpected.

Is a shame as I find for electriconics (when they have stock) they can be much cheaper than the likes of Currys and Harvey Norman.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators Posts: 6,497 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sheep Shagger

Being owned by Sainsburys we don't have any of their stores to merge with like they have done in the UK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,134 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

It was expected. Wonder if they'll do clearance sales.

I'll miss Argos for the really random stuff you couldn't easily get elsewhere in a shopping centre

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,932 ✭✭✭JDxtra

Shame for the staff. It was viable, but Sainsbury's had no interest and let it coast along.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,179 ✭✭✭Sappy404

Such a shame. Always a handy shop to check when you needed an assortment of different stuff, or something specialised or random that most high street stores wouldn't carry. And just awful for the staff too at a time like this.
