Waiting until 60 minutes to push the Leinster button won't cut it going forward in the tournament.

That said, Racing showed up, and put in a very powerful performance in defense.

Wade thinks he's s playing NFL. Nasty.

That's what happens when you need to wear teams down.

    Ross Byrne was very good

Larmour is playing so well at the minute. Making so many positive contributions whenever he gets the ball. His footwork is second to none, but now he's picking excellent lines and accelerating around tackles rather than chopping back against the grain. He's developing his game and it's great to see.

there was a pretty high shot directly around the neck of a Leinster player a minute or two before the last try, Carley was about a meter and a half away, looking directly at it, no penalty, no advantage…. So if he cant understand what he’s looking at as it transpires in such obvious close quarter situations…

I think it was Wade. Never a competent defender he seems to be making no effort to tackle legally

That match really sums up what it is that Leinster and Ireland are trying to do.

Am glad Racing showed up the way they did. Their line speed and aggression in contact caused us a lot of problems, they were all over the breakdown and did very well of slowing down the tackle so that whilst neither side was holding on our placing of the ball was slow.

Leinster did what Leinster do, played with massive tempo, varied our attack and defended ferociously. At 50 minutes Racing were wilting and by 60 minutes they were going backwards after second phase in possession. We cut them open from there.

Gibson-Park made a few bad calls there and he's guilty the last while of taking too much out of the ball. Byrne had a few errors but overall had a good game, was under pressure in the first half as we weren't really generating consistent gain-line but he'll be happy with that performance.

Once again - a team getting away with being offside really stifles us. Happened in the Connacht away game also and we didn't deal with it at all that day.

Still, we defended powerfully and played at a very high tempo until their pack were out of steam.

Very happy with that win. Was wishing they'd kick it out at the 80 but appreciate them going the extra mile for the large home crowd.

I'd hope he gets cited for his own safety. He'll do serious damage to himself flying into tackles like that.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Thought both JOB and Larmour had cracking games. Assuming Lowe is still unavailable, one will get the 11 jersey and the other 23 for Ireland.

    Ringrose was outstanding again.

Thought Ross Byrne went very well but that cross kick was the stuff of nightmares, jesus.

Things got a bit ropey in the middle third but once again, a top team was reduced to spoiling our ball and trying to grind a win out rather than playing any rugby.

Also, I hope Wade gets cited for that challenge at the end, that was filthy.

JOB is an oddity, constantly plays well without ever really getting massive plaudits that go elsewhere. He’s a real steady performer

So Leinster qualify with max points minus Furlong, Sexton. Henshaw & Lowe and all you get is rugby INCELS having a moan on here.

Leinster made last 16. Roll out the red carpet. Book the open-top bus.

That scrum and breakdown is just waiting to be destroyed by Toulouse or LAR. Racing caused huge problems for 60 minutes but couldn't sustain it. If one of the top sides can do it for 80 minutes, Leinster are done. The results are papering over massive cracks and many people won't acknowledge it until it's too late (and then probably still won't)

Someone tell Ringrose that his pack is shite and he shouldn't do that. Spirit of the game and all that.

Are these teams going to magically unlock our defense too? You'd swear other teams also don't have to worry about us. All those finals we lost were eminently winnable, bar a few mistakes. We weren't blown away at all.

Did Penney make it on the pitch at the end or is he still waiting for his European début ?

Pretty obvious stuff but thought Ringrose was absolutely outstanding and Larmour + JOB not far behind. Harder to know in the pack in the stadium. Enjoyed the game and good that Leinster got a proper test.

Porter and Conan looked good. Conan hits hard in the tackle. Yeah Ringrose is class, getting better and better. Back 3 looked very impressive as well

Every team is beatable. Every win any team gets is papering over potential cracks. That’s the nature of sports.

Leinster will get beaten at some stage this season. If they go the whole season unbeaten and win both the URC and Champions Cup, it will be, in your words, still just papering over the cracks until they get ‘found out’ by a team who beats them.

    Its not really.

Its individual brilliance and the luck of a bouncing ball after a terrible pass. Its a breakdown in midfield an on another day the ball bounces differently and its a try at the other end.

Its a great highlight, but its by accident instead of design.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 10,599 Mod ✭✭✭✭aloooof

I don’t think anyone would argue it is by design.

But as improvisation goes, it’s brilliant execution.

The dynamic over the next few rounds is going to be interesting.

Leinster have earned home advantage all the way to the podium steps, the next round wont throw anybody their way from the bottom 4 of group B that they cant account for easily but then it gets interesting.

Home advantage makes them firm favourites and a potential swansong for some major players and coaches makes it a season defining competition, anything other than lifting that trophy is underachieving.

But we know there are teams out there that can match leinster, can they travel and do it?

With only one champions cup trophy in ten years Is the pressure to live up to the favourites tag going to be a factor?

That's your problem right there. He's improved immensely over the years and the Ross Byrne of 2023 is much better than the one from years ago.
