RTE pedalling the refugee asylum seeker line for all they are worth.

Even discussing different topic with AGS commissioner got in little swipe about foreign right wingers getting involved in protests.

They are also pushing agenda for exclusion zones.

Fooking hell at this stage expect them to come out and bloody say we are goign to turf the locals out and plant the areas,

I am not allowed discuss …

I spat my tea in laughter when i read this. "Please freeloaders, could you possibly refrain from jumping on the plane to come here and 'losing' your documents on the way, at least for a while until we get this sorted. Thank you please".

Gormless portfolio should be "Minister for disintegration", idiot.

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

But certain people kept saying we have loads of space and it's racist to say otherwise. Are our government racist now too? The plot thickens!

I know Hermann, he is far from pleasant enough and wont be happy until we return to the 1950's.

Movement of Asylum Seekers Ireland co-founder Lucky Khambule on Morning Ireland.

Lucky added that people will always come to Ireland even if there is a prospect of homelessness as Integration Minister Roderic O'Gorman has warned. He said: "No, it won't make any difference... people will always come for whatever reason they come to the country.

The point Lucky is making is that even without the availablitity of shelter those coming here have a very compelling reason for picking Ireland.

I think that reason is the ease of obtaining asylum status here compared to the UK say. Add to that the Minister waving EU citizenship in front of the whole of Ukraine and Helen McEntee's amnesties for those here illegally and her lucky bag passports for all.

It makes sense to get in here and put up with living on the street if that's on offer in the short term.

And if you're on the street it would seem like the rational thing to do would be form in to gangs for mutual protection.

They won’t be on the street. I’m sure all the open border, diversity grifters will open up their doors to these people… NOT!!

It's sickening all the same. He can do that, and nothing bad will be said about him, he won't be called a Nazi or far right. When the rest of us were making similar suggestions on similar grounds a long time ago, we got every negative label possible attached to us. But like they say, the difference between a "right wing conspiracy" and a reality, is only few months.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

One of the liason teachers was quoted in the article about the move to Milltown

How unfair it is, they are not 'sponging off the state'

Eh? Are they paying for this themselves? Including a bus to bring 24 kids to and from school

Meanwhile some irish kids didn't get a ticket on their school bus at the start of the school year .

Listening to Mike Allen of Focus Ireland on the News at One and he thinks Roderick O'Gorman and his department are 'not' the problem. He reckons poor decisions around overstretched accommodation in the country are being made at cabinet / government level.

He has no issues with refugees btw. He correctly points that the Irish homeless situation and the direct provision system are two completely different subjects and stresses that Focus Ireland's services have not been impacted by there being more asylum seekers in the country in the last year.

There should be an emergency law passed. Any airline which disgorges any chancer with no documentation has to take him back to where he boarded.

And feck the EU and what they think.

I hate to break it to Mike Allen but O'Gorman is fully responsible for this absolute sh1teshow.

He's now put out a tweet asking those in safe countries not to come. What the hell were we doing taking people in from safe countries when we barely have room for genuine Ukrainian refugees!

I think it's pretty clear at this stage that Roddy is out of his depth and someone with a bit of common sense needs to take over his position. Although finding common sense in any of the ruling parties might be too big of an ask.

There's not one person in FG, FF, or the GP, who'll do anything sensible, so where exactly will you get this mythical person from? This is the problem, the Irish state is literally full of many minds, that might as well be one. They all sing the same songs and dance the same dances, if they didn't, they wouldn't be in any of those parties, as they'd be ran in no time. Being a "good" politician in Ireland means doing what's good for politicians in Ireland, not the people.

O'Gorman is not directly responsible for immigration or the numbers entering the country - his remit is to manage the Direct Provision system and also accommodation for the Ukrainian people.

Mike Allen thinks it's the Cabinet who are messing up with their lack of forward planning around accommodation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 467 ✭✭DaithiMa

Yes, and the direct provision system has completely capitulated under his watch.

Like who could have predicted the huge surge in applications after O'Gorman himself promised own door accommodation within 4 months. For that alone he should be removed from the position, let alone for what he has done (or more accurately hasn't done) in the last few months.

Somebody has to take responsibility for this situation and as you said, when it comes to the management of direct provision the buck stops with him.

It was O'Gorman who sent out the multi language messages about coming here, it was him to who announced the end of DP, and the new system which would literally get them housing in months, which they'd have a right to for years. Why oh why are you just repeating what someone said, instead of looking at the realities and making a judgment based on that? The state in general is completely to blame, but he's playing a very important role in that too.

Well I don't know how you can say they're completely separate. Surely more people coming into the country with no accommodation is going to impact on existing services.

The government basically telling single men to not bother coming here. Disappointing far right policy.

All the planning in the world and there will still be a problem.

The issue is capacity. The sheer volume of people. We don't have the space for them.

Apparently a riot in city west last night, very violent.

what kind of absolute scum are coming into this country???

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,582 ✭✭✭SafeSurfer

It isn’t just mandatory registration of residential property not designed for self catering. It is mandatory registration of all properties available for short term lets.

You say local residents should get a say if houses in their area are offered as short term lets. Local residents didn’t get a say in hundreds of asylum seekers being housed in their areas. Do you not see the double standards?

You mention people who have been illegally letting properties for years. What laws were they breaking? The planning requirement for RPZ areas was only introduced in mid 2019.

Do you think the 6 months grace period is due to leniency or due to the planning system not being able to process the 30,000 planning applications that will be required?

few videos online of the riot in city west last night. Awful violence.

seems to have gone on for ages before security arrived - maybe they were afraid to intervene and I don’t blame them.

What kind of scum? Who even knows... We are importing THOUSANDS of unknowns, with ZERO screening and no clue of where these cnuts are coming from or what they are capable of...

Take the "Wexford Man" who raped a poor 23 year old FOUR times in the news yesterday... a dirty Albanian refugee is what he is. Not a Wexford Man. The media are deliberately misleading us!

It is completely out of hand.

Now a majority of Ukrainians are stating in advance they have no intention of going home. Who saw that coming? Everyone.

Add in the neverending arrival of more people, and where are we going?

If it stopped tomorrow, how long would it take to alleviate the housing crisis and every other bit of infrastructure creaking at the seams? A decade, just to catch up to the regular crisis levels? And this is without a recession or economic correction?

And all the while it is to be paid for by Irish people, while their own quality of life largely goes down the river?

This has been the game of the housing crisis since way before any war in Ukraine. A post earlier showing millions of psn numbers handed out to foreign nationals since 2002. The sheer ignorance required to disconnect the housing crisis and all the easily found and checked governmental data is untold.

A monster is looming over this country, a monster that was created through pure greed. How it manifests is anybodys guess. But something is going to break, some fundamental, society bearing thing is going to shatter into pieces and anything could be on the cards.
