It's an absolute joke when you actually think about it, if current numbers continue there'll be 600+ asylum seekers sleeping rough on the streets of Dublin within 4 weeks. In the middle of Winter.

Then we'll have many hotels reverting to tourism in March. Thousands of beds gone.

I think I read that they've got plans to build a total of 800 modular homes in 2023 but that won't even accommodate a fraction of the 70k plus that came in 2022, let alone the same number we are told that will arrive in 2023.

Genuinely think the announcement will result in more arrivals not less, people will think the drawbridge is being pulled up or that the Government will make the regulations more stringent going forward and will try to squeeze in.

Announcement itself is weak, its like please don't take advantage of us but we're not going to do anything if you do

Newstalk was actually unbelievable earlier with Kieran Cuddihy . They roll out GAA star Philly McMahon who says he’s speaking for the majority of Ballymun people when he says the people out there are now seeing through the “far right “ people who are not from the area and the same people against refugees are the very same people that are against abortion and LGBTQ so are not worried about the women of Ireland . He also says he likes to call the men getting off the buses unaccompanied instead of single as they more than likely have families at home . Some amount of horse shite spoken . Not a mention of city west .

And unfortunately what made me laugh at how outrageously blatant the whole thing was , the next segment was on how people should show better manners and he cut to people on the street giving their opinion . Shockingly the very first person asked said “ we should be more welcoming to refugees “

    Absolute embarrassment

150 per week will be hitting the streets now according to the news tonight

    600 per month 7000 in a year

there will be large crowds of homeless congregating on the streets and it can’t be hidden

In 2007 the likes of Fine Gael's party members such as Leo Varadkar laid out in their General Election priorities and promises the implementation of "Proper Immigration and Integration Policies". They used the very same concern to gain votes, nobody called that "the rise of the right" or disgraceful? They gained an extra 19 seats. What changed since then? Why is that priority and promise that was basically an establishment and citizen priority back then, so vilified now? That's what is sad here, genuine citizens concerns being turned into SS officer's concerns. What for?

Heard it, Philly should stick to the football, obviously he's been coached what to say In that interview, full of buzzwords, it's actually sad

EU subservience, money, and populist grandstanding on Twitter with the end game being to move up into the real gravy train in Brussels or the speaking circuit/lobbyist set like some others before them.

I don’t know why you are commenting at length on something you are ignorant of.

Almost everything you have posted as fact is incorrect.

I heard some of philly Mahon earlier.

Absolute tosh, he was parroting phrases he clearly didn’t understand.

He may be able to kick a ball but he should stay away from discussing current affairs as he was very much out of his depth and showing his ignorance live on a national radio show.

Great stuff by Philly. Completely right and great to see it triggered the exact types he was talking about. lol

He is indeed very popular and speaks for the area more than the old far right farts with an agenda. Great to see the grass roots people in an area saying it like it is and of course seeing that it struck a nerve with those types he was talking about on here is quite entertaining.

nail on head. It was cringeworthy stuff listening to him trying to remember the buzz words to parrot off.

A journalist in Ireland cannot operate here effectively without being a member of the NUJ Union. At their Annual Delegate Conference (ADM) in Portrush, Northern Ireland back in 1979 the NUJ was effectively took over by left and hard-left elements and this bias has been growing ever stronger in recent decades. Over 70 Irish journalists left the NUJ in protest and any that remained and protested from within about being censored or told how to write on certain topics were effectively frozen out of their jobs.

One journalist a few years later in 1981 took the NUJ to the courts over their stance, however the union paid up on the steps of court and the case never got in front of a judge. It's a pity alot more didn't do this, but then again money was tight in those days to mount a challenge.

Fast forward a few decades and you see how the NUJ effectively has become a left-wing and at times hard-left circle-jerk with very little room for alternative view points save a token opinion piece from the likes of Doherty and O'Brien who are barely entertained to give the aura of faux impartiality.

All major media outlets in Ireland are of a hive mind and listening, watching or reading from any selection of them and you'll be reading/hearing/seeing the same slant over and over and over. Watch one national news programme in Ireland today and you've seen them all, listen to one radio news broadcast today and you've heard them all, ditto for whichever national newspaper you'd foolishly part your €2.50 for - again same headlines, same news, same conclusions.

As long as the government is doing what is approved of from within the ranks of the NUJ there will never be tough questions asked. SF started getting popular coverage/less hostility from the Irish media when it pivoted away from it's Eurosceptic stance, promoted mass immigration and went progressive on social issues.

The media machine in Ireland is stronger than the Catholic Church ever was. You are dead right when you say "too many "journalists" are related to, married into, or auditioning for future jobs with those same politicians" they get rewarded for their loyalty to the system.

No need for that. It'll be more "displays of gratitude" and willingness to count their blessings and move on from the conflicts of the past in their new safe haven (like we saw last night) that will turn the tide

Meanwhile, back on earth, seeing as it has been directly stated several times now by politicians that we are full and have no accommodation for anyone else, they should act on that fact immediately and halt all inward migration.

    Don't you agree?

Or what do you propose should happen immediately given its a crisis?

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,228 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

Oh okay, have you joined any groups yourself, gone on any marches?

Anything tangible at all apart from rage posting?

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,228 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

they should act on that fact immediately and halt all inward migration.

    Don't you agree?

No, would probably be one of the most monumental dumb policies in the past 50 years.

    For obvious reasons.

  • Registered Users Posts: 37 palette

Rage or calm, seeing as it is a matter of fact that there is no accommodation left in the entirety if the country, there should be an immediate freeze on all inward migration.

    Don't you think?

Maybe you've found a secret unoccupied city and are about to reveal it now?

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,867 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Sure it'll all be grand if only those dasterdly "far right" types would stop asking awkward questions, expressing their opinions and concerns, and pointing out that the Emperor really ISN'T wearing any clothes

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,130 ✭✭✭lmao10

Yes, I think we can add "the tide is turning" to "woke", "marxist" etc. We see those words in a post and we know what we are getting. The tide was turning when Gemma was going to run for president and when the NP were running in elections and were going to get elected :)

    "just you wait"

Same shít 30 years ago when the Polish arrived.

"There won't be a swan left in the country"

Whereas allowing a limitless number of people to walk into the country with zero accommodation, throwing a few food vouchers at them and letting them wander off into the night is a stroke of genius?

Are you going to share your alternate plan?

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,228 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

there should be an immediate freeze on all inward migration

You have no idea what inward migration is do you?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,806 ✭✭✭buried

Hey Boggles, what did you think of Roderic O'Gorman's departments tweet earlier on? Y'know, the one where they're telling everybody thinking of coming here to literally "stay away"

No rage at all Boggles. I will say though that the only thing worse than the actions of the politicians and the behaviour of some of these "wonderful and poor victimised people" is the behaviour and naivety of some of the natives who are cheering it all on.

Assuming that they aren't just being contrarian or have a vested interest in the situation of course.

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,228 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

Nah, I think the "far right" types ranting and raving online will rightly ignored and ridiculed.

Has anyone here actually taken any tangible steps into "taking our country back"?

    Anyone?

  • Registered Users Posts: 37 palette

What do you propose to do with a country with zero accommodation and constantly arriving people?

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,228 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

Haven't see it. Not on twitter. That's worse than here.
