In the way Guy Esterby is Head of Rugby Operations in Leinster rather than the way Friend is Director of Rugby in Connacht I assume.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,055 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

    Yup

Costello will take on further responsibility in an all-encompassing Head of Rugby Operations role that will oversee the long-term strategic development of the elite player pathway, succession planning, and provide recruitment support for developing, retaining, and recruiting players in conjunction with the Head Coach.

So who is in line to get the Academy role? Will it be someone who was there assisting Ian or will they bring in someone new?

Team for Benetton. Fineen W is back, but John Ryan has played his last game (missing this game for family reasons). It's the last game for 3 weeks, so there'll be a well earned rest for plenty of players after this.

Munster: Shane Daly; Calvin Nash, Antoine Frisch, Malakai Fekitoa, Liam Coombes; Joey Carbery, Paddy Patterson; Josh Wycherley, Niall Scannell (C), Roman Salanoa; Jean Kleyn, Fineen Wycherley; Jack O’Sullivan, John Hodnett, Alex Kendellen.

Replacements: Diarmuid Barron, Mark Donnelly, Stephen Archer, Cian Hurley, Ruadhan Quinn, Neil Cronin, Ben Healy, Rory Scannell.

Considering who we're missing this is a good team with a nice mix of experience across the squad and as you say the like of Kleyn will need the rest that this break will allow them in the coming weeks.

Both Carbery and Healy will be making their 50th appearances , which given the relative length of time they've both been at the club says a lot about how much rugby Carbery has missed.

    That's a mad stat.

Back 3 of the pack, looks a little light but excited to see if Ruadhán Quinn gets a few minutes off the bench again. Good to have Fineen back.

Any word on how long Haley will be out?

That's a very strong midfield and back three, Carbery should have a fire lit under him and I very much rate Paddy fcuking Patterson.

Decent pack too - had thought Salanoa was injured. Unfortunate that Ryan has gone, was one of Munster's best players last week.

    Same for me re:Quinn.

Hope he gets a good number of minutes to rumble around the place. One of many at munster at the moment whose future looks v bright.

Munster getting 5 points tomorrow puts us within striking distance of a home QF in the URC. It's a long way from the doom and gloom after the first round of games

Rowntree, Prendergast and Leamy have done absolutely brilliant work, with Ian Costello and Mossy Lawlor joining this year, it's looking very formidable, if not for this year, certainly the 23/24 season

Exciting times, feels like something is building.

A win (or BP) tomorrow would be a big step like you said.

Excited about that backrow - Jack O'Sullivan is a fella who arguably had a higher profile than the likes of Hodnett but his injury has put him down the pecking order. Would love to see him put his hand up

I'm a bit worried about tomorrow, it's one of those games where you're expected to win but could lose it too.

Because of our poor start to the season we have very little wriggle room.

That's the joy of being a Munster fan this year. Every game matters. We're going away to Benetton in a game that normally would be of little interest, but suddenly, it's a proper clash between Munster's young players, our coaches, our new system, our ability to string games together, versus a really exciting young Benetton team, playing with the wind behind their sails, at home and with a lot of attention on this game.

The game is a potential banana skin, a win cannot be taken for granted. A TBP is nowhere near guaranteed, but any other year, a TBP in this fixture is nothing to write home about, this season, it's a huge boost to our season. There is nobody playing tomorrow thinking this game doesn't matter

If we beat Benetton with a tbp we would move to 6th, assuming Glasgows beat Dragons meaning we can't go to 5th.

Least we have a mix of teams below us like Ospreys and Scarlets and teams above us we can try take points from like Glasgow and Stormers.

Think a home qf will be tough, Leinster have 1st nailed on and then we're 13 and 11 points behind Stormers and Ulster with the same amount of games played now. Then there's 4/5 other teams in the running for 4th.

Looking at Munster's fixture list they should win their next 4 games before heading to SA anyway, I do think there is only 1 Home QF spot available so it will be a difficult task but not impossible.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,774 ✭✭✭✭Eod100

Well we're currently 2 tries down against Bennetton so wouldn't take anything for granted tbh! Not impossible I agree but odds of a home qf aren't in our favour as it stands

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,691 ✭✭✭Shehal

Never took it for granted, it appears Irish teams still haven't figured out how to ruck properly it seems after last week, Well they definetly arent especially after the start of the season we had. We will probably need to win a game in SA at this stage as well.

Carbery looks like he’s sleepwalking. Healy should have started. He’s clearly lost whatever confidence he had

    Completely asleep so far

    Awful errors

Need to step up or match will be over

Need to protect ball better in 22

Much better last 10 mins overall

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,691 ✭✭✭Shehal

Good, it just show's that he isnt up to playing for Ireland and Andy Farrell was justified in dropping him.

Be interesting to how we go with Healy Carbery at a 10/15 axis.
