Not a bad chance for the maximum

I can’t remember the posters name. But they said once that Selby has the mannerisms and style of Steve Davis.

So I was thinking it is fitting Selby won the Steve Davis trophy.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Mad that he could've been heading out of the top 16 if he didn't eventually string some results together.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,948 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Wondering why they are showing Trump vs Selt on YouTube…. Surely Higgins vs Selby is the one people want to see…

  • Registered Users Posts: 583 ✭✭✭iffandonlyif

I heard Murphy say in the latest of Stephen Hendry’s interviews on Youtube that he now plays out of the Stephen’s Green Club in Dublin. Was that widely known? I saw he went viral for buying lunch for someone in the street who was begging, but I assumed he was visiting rather than living here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,489 ✭✭✭AllForIt

He was interviewed by Claire Byrne on her radio show over the assisting a beggar incident. In it he did say he played in the Stephen's Green Club.

But yeah it's well known he's been living in Dublin for years now. He has an Irish wife. Think they live out in Sandymount or near it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 583 ✭✭✭iffandonlyif

Thanks for that. It seems almost idyllic, Darting into Stephen’s Green for a bit of practice between tournaments. Biggish fish in a smallish pond. Lot of flights back and forth, though.

They live in Balinteer. He asked Spawell could he practice there but he needed his own room etc so they said no.

Jimmy into the last 16 of the German Masters in Berlin. Playing Lisowski tonight.

First over 60 year old into last 16 of a ranking event since Eddie Charlton in the 1992 British Open.

    C'mon Jimmy.

Although this tournament should be there for the taking by Lisowski now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Jimmy makes a dream start 2-0 up. What a pink to middle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,489 ✭✭✭AllForIt

Ahh, Jimmy looked really upset there after loosing the match 5 - 2. Missed a ball to the centre pocket to let Jack in to clear up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 583 ✭✭✭iffandonlyif

I’m living in Berlin and spontaneously decided to get tickets to the final. Despite having watched a lot on TV, it’s never really occurred to me to go in person. I’m excited, although I’ve been warned that the seats are far away from the table. Anyway, hoping for a Robertson/Lisowski final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

The Templedrome Seems to be in the middle of Berlin, walking distance or a quick U Bahn hop from the centre. Could be a hell of a place for a few days away watching some snooker.

Maybe a bit less hyped, and a bit easier to get to/from than the Masters in London

16 year old Stan Moody has won the World Junior Championship and gets himself a 2 year tour card.

He was at the Shootout last year and impressed there winning a match, and has made 147s in practice.

Carter beats Milkins in the decider.

looked like words exchanged at the end during the handshake…. Might be wrong though. Looked like Milkins conceded while Carter was home and dry just mopping up, possibly Carter wasn’t impressed by that ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Carter has had a rough ride over the years, but he does seem to have more aggro with other players than most of them on the tour.

Milkins has had a great few days, a 146 on Thursday, followed by a 147 on Friday.

Lisowski really needs to put this tournament to bed from here.

Carter can be a septic little prick at times. He’s very unlikeable and a poor sport.

Tom Ford one frame away from making it to the final. Hope he can get over the line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,489 ✭✭✭AllForIt

You might need a pair of binoculars judging by the distance the seating is away from the table

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,489 ✭✭✭AllForIt

So going to a decider, Ford after playing so well seems to have bottled somewhat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,489 ✭✭✭AllForIt

Some drama in the deciding frame, looked like Jack was going to take it but Ford held his bottle with a great yellow to the centre pocket to make it to the final. Delighted for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Jack that was a big chance. Oh dear, oh dear.

Ford has been slowly climbing the rankings and getting more exposure recently. Many will root for him tomorrow against Carter.

Tom Ford wins the first frames in the final. Really hope Ford wins this over the unlikeable Carter

Hope the tenacious Ali Carter wins, bit of needle is no harm...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,948 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Think Ford might regret trying to pot that difficult black, safety back to balk, wouldn’t have been hard.

cant see Carter loosing a 4 frame lead only needing 3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,948 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Watched most of Matthew Selt vs Xiao

Selt complaining about the lighting, no problems at the table but hes getting a headache as a light is shining at him when hes in his seat, a lighting crew member comes to talk to the ref mid match to attain a solution... no play last few minutes.... Selt was also flagging someone in the background for eating crisps.

He's not supposedly the most popular player on tour but this takes the piss...plus he's audibly having a conversation with himself at the table... oddsville.

Interesting to see China putting on a Heyball (aka Pool 8-ball Chinese variant) tournament with a bigger first prize than the Snooker World Championship.

USD 740,000 for the winner JOY Heyball Masters Events | Facebook

It's effectively our 8-ball/blackball pool but played on a 10x5 snooker table, so with the bigger pool balls it's actually a bit more difficult to pot than even snooker. By casual player numbers and viewer figures it seems to have overtaken snooker as the most popular billiard game in China.

I'd been keeping an eye on it pre-covid as prize funds in 2019 were around $150K to the winner so it wasn't far off snooker but still comfortably below. But if big events like this become the norm, then it does raise a few interesting questions. Does this new hybrid game affect the chances of snooker getting back into the Chinese market? And does it reduce the incentive for Chinese players to join the snooker circuit, which would have big knock-on effects on snookers finances.

Is that the Pool game Stephen Hendry promotes over in China as an ambassador?

Like other posters have said they can’t see many youngsters taking up snooker. Too many distractions these days. Plus the game takes loads of dedication and time. Even then might still only be a hacker. But snooker does not suit short attention spans.

Then there is the amount of space snooker halls need - building costs etc.

Added to the Chinese snooker lads who were allegedly involving in match fixing. China could end up turning away from snooker.

Those lads under investigation would naturally move to Chinese pool if banned?

If this hybrid Chinese Pool thing - really takes off it will be just another reason why people won’t play snooker. And China is where the money is.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Watching a bit of the O’Sullivan vs Muir match. O’Sullivan again in drama llama mode… constantly fidgeting with his tip, glasspaper out, tip flew off the cue previously…. The fella can afford decent equipment.

Then the referee Louise Kratz goes to replace a colour he’s potted and before the ball is placed on its spot and she can get her arm up off the table he absolutely smashes the next red… not good, that would hurt her if a ball smashes into her elbow. She correctly calls a foul as the ball hadn’t been replaced…

Despite his talent one of the most thoroughly unpleasant and ridiculously petulant, arrogant sportsmen….

then Ronnie looses a frame on the three miss rule. Final effort he smashed the white off the table. If that white goes into the crowd someone’s getting hurt.

deciding frame, all happing here.. 👀

He's certainly been looking in pretty bad mood the last few weeks....

Ronnie get the job done. Nothing annoys him more than a dodgy tip.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,668 ✭✭✭Muppet Man

Ya, he was being childish today for sure. Not a good look for him. He claimed he was trying for a fluke and accidentally clipped the pink, but he was clearly just pi55ed off.

He won't go far in the tournament in this mood (watch him win it now to prove me wrong)

yet he claims he doesn’t care, it’s only paid practice. Really annoying

I didn't see this as it happened or I didn't see the TV analysis after. Was the referee correct here? She claims Ronnie could hit that red full ball, however, JV said she called a free ball initially. Did she call a free ball I didn't hear. Does that referee have much experience? I'm sure it a daunting task to refree Ronnie matches especially in situations like this one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,948 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Heathcoate absolutely threw away two frames Vs Trump. Including a dreadful mis cue on a straight forward red, dreadful shot…. How he lost that. 🤯

Trump a relieved man. Heathcote looked like he wished the floor was going to open up and swallow him.

    Milkins takes out Selby.

Aaron Hill loses to the in form Pang.

Anyway if he keeps making last 32 appearances he is making progress.

How amazing was Ronnie today, how not to love this man's game...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,489 ✭✭✭AllForIt

Murphy makes a consecutive 145 then 147 in his match to beat Danial Wells. Looks very chuffed himself too. Hope his weigh loss will up his game a bit like it did with Allen.

In other news BBC RED Button is being broadcast in HD now, finally.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,948 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Mertens probably hoped to bring his ‘A’ game to give O’Sullivan a run for his money but he’s been brutal. I’d be annoyed if I’d paid good money to watch this. Has ‘whitewash’ written all over it.

frame at his mercy after OSullivan fûcks up, Mertens pots a red but follows the white into the same pocket, this is like watching me play. 🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭kirk.

No wonder O'Sullivan is calling them numptys

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,442 ✭✭✭weemcd

When has Murphy ever not looked very chuffed with himself?

Ronnie could miss in every frame here and still win, non contest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

150 grand at stake in the next few days for the Bet Victor bonus.

If Mark Allen beats Robert Milkins today he is guaranteed the 150 big ones. On top of the 500 grand he already has this season.

Otherwise Milkins could win it if he wins the tournament (unlikely as as to go through Ronnie in a semi), and Joe O'Connor could also win but he'd have to win the Welsh and hope Milkins beats Allen.

So with the last few slots in next week's Tour Championship up for grabs plenty to play for in the coming days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,147 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

Mertens was awful, looked like a teenage barman with his shirt hanging out. The pressure of playing ROS (who wasn't exactly on fire himself) seemed to get to him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Ronnie in a spot of bother 0-4 down to Tian

He's done nothing much in the rankers this season

And he'll have another week off unless he pulls out a big turnaround from here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,097 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

All over the place, missing long reds by 6 inches, blacks off the spot.
