yeah I apply -reapply it after every good wash especially in winter. If nothing as you said it gives it all a nice shine !

    Well that didn't last.

A brembo master cylinder from carpimoto is only €65 delivered so went with that.

There are better ways to having a more reliable/long lasting brake but this will do for now.

    Old one out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,255 ✭✭✭goblin59

i did the same thing last year on the R100, pain to get it to sit properly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,483 ✭✭✭✭blade1

The placement of the master cylinder beggars belief.

Next to the engine and the exhaust.

I'll probably relocate it at some stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,255 ✭✭✭goblin59

the r100 is on a perch below the exhaust, but its a pain in the arse as well to set up

The heat isn't doing any favours either so . 🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,255 ✭✭✭goblin59

The resevoir is further up. but the biggest headache is that I've to remove the exhaust, master cylinder and brake pedal in order to adjust it when setting up. Which was a pain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,483 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Imagine what that would cost to do at Joe Duffy's 😅

Picked up one of these yesterday to try and make it easier to turn the bike in the shed.

They are advertised for the centre stand but you can also put them under the rear wheel and use it to rotate the bike

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,483 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Master cylinder from caprimoto took about 20hrs to get from Genoa to DHL hub 30miles from me.

It then took 6 days to get from there to me 🙄

Fitting didn't go without a hitch.

The original brembo one isn't available anymore so had to get a slightly different one.

It was listed as a direct replacement for my bike but the pushrod on my bike wouldn't work with it.

Had to grind off a collar on the pushrod for it to work.

Sorted now and had to reverse bleed to get decent pressure.

Open up, it's time for your medication 🙊

These things are great. Make a relatively small shed seem far bigger when you can move the bike around with some ease. Need a smooth floor but works very well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 458 ✭✭robbie_63

Yeah it's working ok so far although I dropped the bike last night trying to turn it!!!!

Just leant over too far and it got away from me,thankfully no damage to the bike

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,111 ✭✭✭✭listermint

I think one of these would be a better option. Buried in the floor.

Yeah I was looking at these but they are small so are only made for bikes with a Centre stand.

My bike is around 210cm long so would need a big turntable to fit the entire bike, something like below would be perfect but very expensive,

Motorcycle Low Rider Turntable from Aluminium Chequer Plate (2400mm): Amazon.co.uk: Automotive

I'll keep looking at youtube homemade versions, might give it a go over the winter

Centre stand is worth its weight in gold. My current bike doesn't have one. It's a pain in the ass.

    Scrap the cap!

Anyone ever get a LED bulb for a reflector that actually worked properly. Anything I've seen while bright never spread the light properly with the reflector and usually had high/low beams issues even when they'd light block or something for the low beams.

Anyone use those projector conversion ones, the lens in the centre for low beam (so not using the reflector) and then leds around the edge for the high beam using the reflectors.

    Hi,

I agree big strong garden shed is needed. Makes great garage for the motorcycle.

This shed I purchase in 2018 from "Clane Steel Garden Sheds Ltd" and it is one of the strongest on a market, in my opinion.

I didn't need to have concrete based under as floor have every two foot metal supporting bar.

You can check all detailed installation on my Youtube channel "@bigtomus" video title "Shed / Man Cave is Build"

Shed was so big I decided to purchase another motorcycle and it did fit comfortably.

Check It out at "@bigtomus" video "My New Rare Motorcycle Reveal. So Exciting to have it."

i got something for the airhead that seems to work.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B085Q8QT1M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I had a projector one too with the lens in the centre and it was crap, this one seems to work with the reflector. I'll hopefully know tomorrow

Not getting much time to do a lot with the rg but took the carbs off on Saturday and they were in a right mess.

Took the tank of today and there's a couple of patches of rust on the inside.

Drained it and a good bit of shite came out.

Just a little of what came out.

Air filter disintegrating just holding it. 🙄

Was talking to someone about cleaning the rusty patches inside the tank and they said they would use blasting media and just keep shaking the tank until clean.

Anyone on here have a y preferred method for cleaning the tank?

Or pros and cons to the various ways?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,255 ✭✭✭goblin59

what is the tank made of? on the airhead I used Milkstone remover from a farmers yard, its a Phosphorous acid mix. leave it overnight and then neutralise with baking soda in water.

My dads friend is a fan of electrolosis which is definitely less messy than acid.

I used Por15 tank liner after as well once the tank was degreased and ready. Very strong stuff! Was recommended to coat a tiny bit around where the fuel cap goes on in the airhead to stop the ethanol lifting the paint.

I've attached a link below with some methods

No worries! I've a twinmax carb balancer if you want to try that out after.

Wish I could change my username without having to pay on here.

Replaced my mark 1 tank strap, which has stretched

With my mark 2 which shouldn't stretch as I've laminated the construction & stitched it as well.

    Cleaned the carbs.

    Not much to them.

    Some new gear oil

    And it's alive again!

Aww, need to be seeing those puffs of two-stroke out of the exhausts...

    Scrap the cap!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,483 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Had the tank full of white vinegar the last couple of days to clean out the rust.

It's gotten rid of most of it.

Just a couple of patches still on either side so I'll give it another bit of vinegar.

Put some bread soda and water after to neutralise the vinegar and then sloshed some 2 stroke and petrol and it hasn't flash rusted thankfully.

    What came out of tank

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,255 ✭✭✭goblin59

Thats pretty manky! its well worth doing though, will you use por15 on it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,483 ✭✭✭✭blade1

I was hoping to not use anything.

But this is not my field of expertise so not sure what's the right or wrong thing to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,255 ✭✭✭goblin59

my cousins do custom bikes in the uk and always use por15.

Its a risk tbh, if its applied wrong, it can flake off and your in a worse position. but if its done well its the best thing for your tank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,483 ✭✭✭✭blade1

    Yeah that's my worry.

Not sure I want my rgv to be the test dummy 😬

if you follow the instructions you'll be fine. but the stuff is sticky as hell! it takes 3 days to cure and is a very strong smell.

When i did it i washed out the inside with degreaser after i used the acid, rinsed with clean water and then used a hot airgun blowing into it to ensure the entire inside was dry and then slowly rotated the entire tank to ensure the inside was evenly coated.

i put a tiny coating around the lip of the tank too for the fuel cap, and it stops the ethanol lifting the paint there.

So far its holding up well on the airheads tank, but i'd have been close to bringing it to a sandblasters to redo if it was messed up. I've read that the oven for curing metal before powdercoating will destroy the liner and it will come out much easier

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,483 ✭✭✭✭blade1

I think I'll hold off and see how it goes for me.

If it's giving me trouble down the line I'll take the extra step needed.

Took the bike out for its first proper drive over the weekend. Got halfway up with Wicklow mountains and the fog descended, was like a John Carpenter film could barely see my hands. But it was still nice to get out despite all of that.

A little bit of tidying to the exhausts and around the cylinders etc.

    Sprayed the exhausts

    Before

Didn't get too anal about it but much better now

Went on a 5 hour coast to coast trip yesterday and bike finished it up slightly lighter than it started. I didn't have a passenger grab rail there just covers.

So €50 order for 3 bits of plastic and a few pennies for a bolt on the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,553 ✭✭✭✭Varik

And turns out the one place that said they'd the part (cmsnl) now emailed me to say they don't after I'd ordered it, so I've changed some bits around and also got a used grab rail coming off ebay so my lost part is costing closer to €100 now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,255 ✭✭✭goblin59

    CMSNL are so ****!

everytime i ordder anything from them thats in stock, turns out its not and then they charge huge shipping fees too.

I get stuff faster from procycle in the states and similar cost than I do from them. last time it took a month to arrive from them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,564 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

Similar cost yeah until you get hit with import duty...

    Scrap the cap!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,553 ✭✭✭✭Varik

No where else seems to have the stupid little plastic part so I was stuck buying off them.

Now instead I've got a used grab rail of ebay coming and changed the the order around with them but they've now said this morning that while they've stock it'll be may before all of it ships.

Anyone order off motorcyclespareparts.eu. €40 for everything off them

    Also https://www.oemmotorparts.com/ €50 off them

Main parts I need now are 77312MW3600 and 77313MW3600,

Both those crowds also seem to be in the Netherlands, so either it's all because of rotterdam being near or I'm ordering off the different middle men who'll inevitably tell me they too are out of stock.
