Ireland finally put their big pack to good use, sent the Welsh marching backwards in the maul there.

And a super scrum penalty now.

Well contained at 10 points that purple patch. Time for some hard work. Hopefully get within a couple of points by the break.

Ireland desperately need to get to half time now, some positives of-course but we look like incredibly rusty...

We seem to have picked a team of athletes that don't have much rugby in them. We may overpower Wales over the course of the 80, but it's pretty abysmal stuff so far.

Jimmy Duffy being sorely missed by this 20s team.

    Brian Gleeson is a beast.

The welsh midfield is well on top.

Cut off their supply and we win this game.

We honestly had such little ball that its very hard to tel, we look really rattled and really nee the half time whistle and for us to regroup.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,725 ✭✭✭Shehal

That first half probably sum's up every Ireland v Wales game ever in a nut shell really.

Didn't think we'd have trolls in the U20 thread :rolleyes

Best Welsh u20 side we have seen in a while especially the backs.

Great game, this tournament gets better & better every year!

We can talk about how good Wales have looked but when you have made the number of unforced errors, both handling and at set piece/breakdown, Ireland have made with the little possession we have generated then how do we expect to win?

The massive hype around Gunne looks like a lot of hot air at the moment

Lots of talent in this group but they're an appalling rugby team

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,725 ✭✭✭Shehal

Jesus Christ Gleeson is mutant, scary to think he's u19. Heard him compared to Gavin Coombes and I definitely see it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,725 ✭✭✭Shehal

We look like a group of talented individuals who are in pre season against a side in the middle of their season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,103 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Steady on with some of the criticism. Yes its not been fantastic but look theyre winning away from home despite being very sloppy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,725 ✭✭✭Shehal

We are losing and I still question are they fantastic or are we making them look fantastic with our sloppiness?

  • Registered Users Posts: 92 ✭✭LRind2008

Potentially the most frustrating Irish u20 team I think I’ve ever watched lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,952 ✭✭✭TRC10

100%. Offering nothing in attack. Coughing up ball left right and centre. Utterly disjointed in D. Line out and maul a complete mess. Tertible discipline. A prime example that talent isn't everything.

Based on this 50 minutes this is easily the most one dimensional and technically limited Irish team I have seen in some time.

It's all good and well sending out a team of big lads to muller their way through teams at Under 20 level, but it's usually not worth much when the size differences balance out at adult level.

Some shyte game management going on here from Ireland. This Wales team were there for the taking and if it doesn't happen then headless decision making will have been to blame.

Not scrummaging the penalty under the posts after the Yellow was criminal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,725 ✭✭✭Shehal

Im a broken record at this point but this is honestly like every Schmidt v Gatland game ever. For all our power we are utterly braindead with the ball in hand.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,952 ✭✭✭TRC10

The Welsh lads playing some great rugby and absolutely schooling us here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 207 ✭✭Rocko

Wales down a back and the Wales fullback hobbling.

Why don't Ireland leave it straight out of the scrum to the backs?

And put it through the hands.

    Makes no sense

I take it this is not a vintage crop this year, a terrible performance so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,725 ✭✭✭Shehal

Ireland immediately respond! Chance to take the lead.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,952 ✭✭✭TRC10

    Good try there

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,725 ✭✭✭Shehal

Ireland take the lead at last!

    v

Very hard to say that after 1 game. People are being far too harsh on these 18/19 year olds!
