I bought this utility knife today in Woodies but for the life of me I cannot get packaging off! I've tried everything including pliers but it won't budge. I'm also pressing the orange button as I think that's supposed to unlock the blade compartment. Am I doing something wrong?

You'll have to buy another knife to cut that packaging.

Push the slide lever on the top that extends the blade.

Looks like the knife splits down the middle. Remove the screw on one side & split the knife, whatever is catching the packaging should release then.

I tried that but the lever only goes about 2/3 through

Tried that as well. It doesn't split even with the 2 screws off.

Dumb question maybe but does it split from the end (opposite of the knife blade) and sort of hinge at the blade end?

Does this help? Maybe the Tactix copies this design?

Push the top slide button forward then press the orange button in and pull hard on the packaging at the same time

Go back to the shop. Buy a Stanley. Use the Stanley to cut away as much of the packaging as possible. Take out and keep the spare blades. Throw the packaging remnants in the green bin, and the non-Stanley knife in general waste.

That said some of the cheaper Stanley knives are way over rated and you have to remember there are two sizes of blade. iirc most of the cheap blades don't fit Stanley knives very well.

    Fire? Meet plastic covered handle.

Posting a reply here because I found this thread last night while desperately googling how to remove the packaging. I brought mine back to Woodies and they did it for me. They unscrewed both screws (Torx head, so a PITA) and popped off the plastic bits from the handle, and literally had to take the entire knife apart. Apparently they do this fairly frequently in there!

The little orange blade release button is liable to go flying when you pop it in half so watch out for that. The solution is to take the entire knife apart. It won't feel like it should because of the handle bits, but that is the solution.

The guy said he actually has some himself and, aside from the packaging hassle, likes it a lot. We used them last night for the intended project and honestly, they are a very comfortable blade, packaging pain aside.
