FTTH Attic install options.

This has been discussed in various threads with differing outcomes.

My father will be getting FTTH in next couple of months and is wondering about the install. At present the phone line comes from a pole into the attic (bungalow) then to each point. If they follow same route it would be the attic again.

I know they aren’t permitted into the attic but is there something I, or someone else in the family, could do to enable this? Ideally he’d have the ONT in the sitting room. But that would mean switching the entry point to the other end of the house which would be just a slightly longer run from pole to house.

Whats the limits on the bend of the fiber? Entering the house at room level would be too low for the cable. Can they run it along the roof easily and have a few bends?

They are permitted in attic. Cable can be run through attic no problem. Most lads will try using existing conduits.

I thought they weren’t allowed for insurance reasons? Parents attic isn’t floored. I’m always up but can understand the risk of someone working for a company.

there is something there alright that there not meant to go up if it isnt floored, but 98 percent of them will crawl across the joists

In the published documents they say they don't/aren't allowed to enter the attic.

Of course, as we've all read here some installers will and some installers won't. Down to the installer on the day.

Probably best to be prepared, drill a hole at the proposed entry point, run conduit, offer to do the attic work, and have the tea & bikkies on standby.

Why not get the technician to route the cable externally to the point where they drill through to the sitting room which is where your dad wants the ONT.

That would probably be the best solution but running across the roof, down the wall then up to the drilling point would be quite a few bends. So wasn’t sure if that would be an issue. Suppose just see what the options are in the day. Cheers for the info folks. At least I know it’s not totally ruled out but not a guarantee. Better tell the folks to get the good biscuits out that day.

I don't see them running across the roof, I think think they'll aim for the eve and run along the facia and down near the downpipe.

If they were run it down the wall into a drilled hole for a room, can they bend it that sharp or is there a loop? Might be overthinking this 😁
